LG Bringing KnockCode to More LG Phones Via Future Firmware Update
News from Droid Life:

Ever since it was introduced with the LG G2, the KnockOn tap-to-wake software that LG patented has been a major focal point of its OEM software. LG even improved its own design by announcing KnockCode alongside the G Pro 2, which will launch later this year. Apparently, demand was so high for creating a personalized knocking pattern to unlock your device that LG is bringing it to more of their older devices.

According to a survey done by LG, over 50 percent of the participants listed KnockCode as their most anticipated feature of the G Pro 2. After hearing that kind of response, LG has announced plans for its LG G Flex and the G2 to receive KnockCode sometime in April.

No hard date has been set in stone and neither has the list of devices to receive this update. LG promises to keep us updated in “the weeks ahead” to give us more details of when exactly we can expect this firmware update to come through.

LG unveils its most human phone ever…but body morphing isn’t on the cards for …
News from The Drum:

LG has unveiled the LG G Flex, a curved smartphone which it describes as its ‘most human phone ever’.

Created by SuperHeroes Amsterdam, the ad shows Dan celebrating his birthday over dinner, receiving a phone from his friends. The phone, however, is strangely human.

Rogier Vijverberg, creative director and founder of SuperHeroes, said: “Our mission is to bring out the superpower in anyone and anything. How awesome would it be if your phone could morph into your body? You would never drop it down the toilet again for a start. It really excites us to work with such brave innovators as LG, who are not afraid to challenge the realms of possibility.”

Lenneke Sigmond, marketing manager mobile at LG Electronics Benelux, added: “LG brings innovation with a wink and a smile. The LG G Flex’s amazing design and technology inspires everyone to think about what’s really coming next.”

As well as a curved screen, the LG G Flex features a ‘self-healing’ back cover.

LG G Pro 2 review: new year, new Note contender – Engadget
News from LG G Pro 2 review: new year, new Note contender – Engadget:

The large-screen smartphone market is now one of the most fiercely competitive in the wireless industry. But even though nearly every phone maker has produced a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note, only a handful of products have actually been worth considering. LG’s Optimus G Pro, a 5.5-inch flagship introduced last year, was one such exception. A year later, its 5.9-inch successor picks up where the first Pro left off, adding enough extra firepower to take on the Galaxy Note 3 spec for spec. The LG G Pro 2 may very well have what it takes to stand up against its big-screen rival, but it’ll have to overcome a few minor obstacles in order to succeed.

SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea’s LG Electronics unveiled a revamped version of its large-screen smartphone G Pro on Thursday, hoping it will help propel the company to the No. 3 spot in global smartphone sales this year.

LG Electronics, currently ranked No. 4, is seeking to move past Huawei Technologies Co Ltd as well as Lenovo Group which recently agreed to buy Google Inc’s Motorola handset division for $ 2.9 billion. The deal, if approved by regulators, would catapult Lenovo from No. 5 to No. 3 – a threat that LG Electronics executives shrugged off.

LG G Flex phone has stylish curves, but what’s the point?
News from Salt Lake Tribune:

Tech » A good Android phone with all the features, but also a curved screen that adds nothing.

Sometimes a technological advancement is made and the people who created it have no idea what to do with it.

That may be the case with new flexible LCD display screens. For years, engineers have been perfecting LCD screens that can bend and roll, which they believe might be useful in a number of applications. Samsung and LG, for example, introduced last month at the annual Consumer Electronics Show gigantic TVs that at the push of a button can go from flat to slightly curved. Why they would do that, I don’t have a clue.

LG unveils its largest smartphone yet, the 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro

LG unveils its largest smartphone yet, the 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro
News from Los Angeles Times:

LG’s Optimus G Pro, a massive smartphone with a 5.5-inch screen, will reportedly make its way to North America as early as this spring.

The Optimus G Pro, which has the largest display LG has ever put on a phone, will feature a full HD 1080p resolution. The screen will have a 400-pixels-per-inch density, which is among the highest available on smartphones these days.

The phone will also feature an unusual “duel recording” mode for its cameras, which will have some of the highest resolution sensors to come on a smartphone. The rear camera features a 13-megapixel sensor while the front has 2.1-megapixel resolution.

Both shoot videos in full 1080p HD, and when “dual recording” is activated, users can record using both cameras at the same time. LG says this creates “a unique picture-in-picture experience.”

The upcoming LG phone runs on Android Jelly Bean and uses 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor. The phone has 32-gigabytes of storage that can be doubled using a microSD card.

LG’s newest MWC teaser hints at third Optimus Vu phone and F-series (video)
News from Android Authority:

MWC is rapidly closing in on us and, with Samsung and HTC nearly confirmed as taking the event quite lightly, we need another “hero” to step in and capture the Barcelona spotlight. Could that someone else be LG?

Based on the company’s crafty recent marketing campaign, we’re inclined to say yes. Even if the first three phones confirmed to be on display in Catalonia, the Optimus L3 II, L5 II and L7 II, are far from special.

And that’s because the latest LG teaser, consisting of a short 45-second YouTube video clip, is even more intriguing than the first two. The focus is on four letters of the alphabet, each symbolizing…………… continues on Android Authority

News from Droid Life:

Just now, LG went ahead and announced the Optimus G Pro for markets other than Japan. Much like the Japanese variant, this device sports a full 5.5″ HD 1080p display, along with a quad-core processor. The device will come in both black and white, while incorporating a curved glass design, giving the phone a 2.5D effect.

While taking a quick glimpse at the backside of the device, you will notice a glimmering “Digital Cube” effect. Although, overall design wise, this phone looks like a mix of the Galaxy S3′s front and the One X’s back. Looks pretty nice if you ask us.

LG announces the launch of its new Optimus L Series 2 phones
News from Digital Trends:

At this year’s Mobile World Congress—an annual expose of the latest innovations in the mobile world that will take place later this month—LG announced that it will showcase its new Optimus L Series II, a line of phones they say continue the company’s tradition of sleek design and cutting edge innovation. The phone designs will stay true to the original Optimus L Series, but with noticeable improvements.

The company said that that the four major new design elements it focused on with this series are “seamless layout, laser cut contour, radiant rear design, and smart LED lighting on the home button.”

Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said of the new line: “LG has a history of pushing the envelope when it comes to style and Optimus L Series 2 builds on this heritage of design innovation. LG Unveils New Flagship Smartphone
News from TIME:

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — LG Electronics will launch the Optimus G smartphone next week in South Korea, pinning high hopes on the new Android device to help revive its loss-making mobile business.

LG said Tuesday that the Optimus G will go on sale in Japan next month and in the U.S. in November. That would put LG’s new phone, which costs $ 894 without subsidies from operators in South Korea, in competition with Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy Note II smartphones during the fall and the winter holidays.

Previous Optimus smartphones have failed to make a mark in the fastest-growing segment of the mobile phone market. LG’s mobile division posted losses of nearly 1 trillion won ($ 895 million) in 2010 and 2011 combined.

LG’s mobile chief said the company hopes the G smartphone will help accelerate the division’s turnaround.

“The Optimus G is our flagship phone with a competitive edge,” Park Jong-seok, LG’s mobile business president, told reporters at a media event. “We are trying to make phones differentiated from our rivals.”

LG Electronics Inc. was the world’s third-largest handset maker before being overtaken by Apple in the high-end market and China-based ZTE Corp. in the low-end.

Analysts said LG was focused on making handsets primarily for voice calls and text messaging, which delayed its response when Apple’s iPh…………… continues on TIME

LG has no ‘specific plans for other mobile platforms’
News from CNET:

The LG Optimus 7 was one of our favorite WP7 handsets. Too bad there may not be a sequel.
(Credit: LG)

During the Optimus G launch event, LG Mobile Communications CEO Park Jong Seok said told reporters that the company had “no specific plans for other mobile platforms”.

This could effectively rule out a new Windows Phone 8 device–the company did not make a Windows Phone 7.5 device, despite it making the LG Optimus 7 for the initial Windows Phone launch.

Stressing the company’s strong relationship with Google, he also talked a bit about the ongoing patent wars. Park said that the company has “strong LTE and UI patents compared with its competitors”, and that it is aware of the situation.

News from Houston Chronicle:

Premium mobile phone battery manufacturer, OnTrion, releases the latest addition to its lineup: superior-quality standard batteries for the LG MARQUEE LS 855 smartphone by Boost Mobile.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) April 04, 2012

OnTrion, the manufacturer of premium OEM-quality mobile phone batteries, has just released a standard battery for Boost Mobile’s LG MARQUE E model. Users of the LG MARQUEE smartphone can maximize their talk, text and data time by keeping a replacement OnTrion mobile phone battery handy at all times.

While manufacturer specs for the LG MARQUEE list good talk time numbers for its battery life, anyone who has ever gotten addicted to a smartphone’s web browsing capabilities knows just how overstated these estimates can be when it comes to data downloading. The best way to overcome this short-lived power-up obstacle and get one’s smartphone fix is with a high-quality backup mobile phone battery like the one OnTrion has just unveiled.

Verizon unveils LG Lucid mid-range LTE Android phone
News from CNET:

The new LG Lucid smartphone will hit Verizon’s 4G LTE network for $ 80 on March 29.

by Brian Bennett March 27, 2012 7:27 AM PDT

(Credit: Verizon Wireless)

Hot on the heels of the handset’s leaked details, Verizon just made the LG Lucid official. The modestly specked device will cost $ 79.99 (with a 2-year contract), run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

The LG Lucid’s screen is a roomy 4-inch display coated by tough Gorilla Glass treatment. For one-handed text entry there’s Swype’s virtual keyboard software along with Android’s stock virtual keys. Shutterbugs probably won’t find the Lucid’s 5-megapixel camera very impressive but LG does claim it will shoot video at a full 1080p HD.

The real draw for consumers will likely be the LG Lucid’s 4G LTE data connection. While much…………… continues on CNET

LG Spectrum Review: This Is One Ugly Sumbitch
News from TechCrunch:

Short Version

The LG Spectrum has spent a long while with me. In fact, LG’s asking for it back, saying that my review period has come to an end. I didn’t get around to the full review until now because (to be perfectly honest with you) I didn’t really want to sit down and talk about the LG Spectrum for X amount of hours.

True, there’s nothing necessarily “wrong” with the phone. It’s got solid specs, performs alright (I guess), and has a downright gorgeous display. But at the same time, there’s a long list of issues that I have with the phone, and most center around design.

Features:

  • 4.5-inch 720×1280 True HD IPS display
  • Verizon 4G LTE
  • Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 8MP rear camera (1080p video capture)
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • LG UI
  • MSRP: $ 199.99 on-contract

Pros:

  • This is a stunning display, without a doubt
  • Camera gets the job done
  • 4G LTE speeds are fast

Cons:

  • Poor battery life
  • Creaks and cracks when stressed
  • Ugly: Too light and plastic-y to feel premium
  • LG UI is equally ugly

Long Version
