LG to unveil Optimus G2 phone with 3GB RAM
News from Stuff Middle East:

The LG Optimus G2 is rumoured to land at CES, bringing with it more RAM than the world has ever seen in a handset – a whopping 3GB.

Couple that with a 5.5in 1080p screen, 13MP camera and Qualcomm’s latest quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro potentially running at 1.7GHz, and the Optimus G2 could be the world’s most advanced mobile. And from the video LG has released on YouTube, it looks to be sporting a virtually non-existent bezel that’ll make it just as attractive on the outside.

Check back on Monday when we’ll be reporting from CES in Las Vegas.

LG Vu 5in Android phone-tablet review
News from Reg Hardware:

Mercedes vs BMW, Boeing vs Airbus, Asda vs Tesco: the world is full of directly competing commercial entities locked in a bitter struggle for market share. In Korea, Samsung and LG go head-to-head in much the same way, so it’s no surprise that LG has cooked up a rival to Samsung’s Galaxy Note.

The LG Vu doesn’t seem so odd at an angle…

Called the Vu, it’s one of the weirdest devices I’ve ever clapped eyes or laid hands on, thanks to its highly unusual 5in, 1024 x 768 screen.

That large screen naturally has an impact on the Vu’s physical size so while it may not be remarkably heavy, tall or thick it is very wide. At 90.4mm across the Vu is almost a full centimeter wider than Samsung’s already broad Galaxy Note 2.

…but face on, it doesn’t quite look right

The Vu isn’t impossible to hold comfortably to your ear for prolonged periods – I managed and hardly have the hands of a navvy – but the width is a factor you should keep in mind if you plan on using it in a primarily telephonic role and are a bit dainty in the prehensile extremity depart…………… continues on Reg Hardware

LG, HTC unveil faster quad-core phones
News from The Journal News | LoHud.com:

BARCELONA (USA TODAY) — Speedier phones, fresh tablets, news of all things mobile. This city is the center of the wireless universe this week as more than 60,000 people attend the Mobile World Congress, one of the industry’s top annual gatherings.

Set within the backdrop of a Spanish palace, the show attracts about 1,400 exhibitors, 12,000 app developers and executive headliners such as Google’s Eric Schmidt, Cisco’s John Chambers, Nokia’s Stephen Elop, and Ford Motor’s William Clay Ford Jr. Facebook Chief Technology Officer Bret Taylor is also scheduled to speak.

Later in the week, Microsoft is expected to unveil the “consumer preview” for the Windows 8 operating system.

Of course, this is also a device-centric event. A variety of ever thinner phones will be on display, some with more robust quad-core innards. LG announced the new LG Optimus 4X HD, a quad-core phone that runs Android 4.0, the latest version of the mobile operating system that’s best known as Ice Cream Sandwich. LG also is showing off the LG Optimus Vu, a device that’s between a tablet and smartphone and is vaguely similar to the Galaxy Note that rival Samsung is already selling.

Creative Strategies President Tim Bajarin, a leading tech analyst, says Microsoft and Nokia might announce lower-priced phones slated for the U.S.

Among other early announc…………… continues on The Journal News | LoHud.com

OK Labs, LG Working on Secure, Virtualized Phones for DoD
News from PCWorld:

Government workers might not be best known for their sense of style, but some Defense Department workers may soon be carrying Prada – the phones, that is.

With a U.S. Department of Defense contract in hand, Open Kernel Labs is working with LG to develop a secure version of the Prada Android phone for the department’s workers. Employees who have the phones will be able to access government data using secure apps, OK Labs said.

The DoD has not made any commitments about the number of phones it plans to buy and OK Labs can’t disclose exactly which applications will be secured on the phones, said Carl Nerup, vice president of global business and corporate development for OK Labs. The DoD can decide to let users switch between a personal section of the phone and a work section or simply load the secure apps onto the phones.

In a press release about the deal, OK Labs said the companies are working on securing other devices including tablets and devices running other mobile platforms in addition to Android. The goal, OK Labs said, is to allow government workers to carry one phone. Some workers use two phones: one sanctioned by their employer for security reasons and another that the user chooses based on personal preferences.

For the OK Labs technology to work, OEMs must build software into the phones before they are shipped and then apps must be…………… continues on PCWorld

LG To Unveil Mozilla Phone At Mobile World Congress?
News from WebProNews:

There are rumors this morning that LG Mozilla may be about to unveil the first smartphone to run Mozilla’s Boot 2 Gecko operating system at the upcoming Mobile World Congress.

Citing “a source close to the matter” ExtremeTech says that the phone could be ready as early as next week, but that the Boot 2 Gecko OS probably won’t be ready for public consumption yet. There are no details yet on pricing or hardware, but the source says that the phone could be available as early as next week, though a mid-2012 date is more likely.

Boot 2 Gecko is a completely open-source mobile operating system designed to use entirely with web-based technology like HTML5 and Javascript. The system is built on the same Linux kernel as Android, though it is not based on Android itself. It relies on the same Gecko rendering engine that powers Firefox.

This rumor comes hot on the heels of Mozilla’s announcement that they would be opening the Mozilla Marketplace to developers at the Mobile World Congress. The Marketplace will host HTML5 web apps that will run in Firefox 13, coming this summer. A B2G-based smartphone…………… continues on WebProNews
