The LG VC-100 is an unannounced CDMA Smartwatch
News from Phones Review:

Wearables are slowly starting to creep into the mainstream, and we’ve seen numerous smartwatches released this year. LG was one of the first, and last month they announced a second device with the LG G Watch R. That smartwatch isn’t out yet, and we’re already looking at a third wearable from the company with a new CDMA LG smartwatch.

One of the things that impressed us about the Samsung Gear S is it’s ability to make calls sans the smartphone. That along with a curved display makes the smartwatch standout, but they will soon have some competition from LG. We don’t think it’s a “curved” device like the Gear S, but we know it will have CDMA connectivity as it’s just passed through the FCC.

The new CDMA LG smartwatch carries the model number LG VC-100 and was tested at the end of last month at the FCC. All we know from the listing is that it will have CDMA connectivity and is measures 57.7mm x 35.5mm excluding the strap. It will handl…………… continues on Phones Review

LG Reportedly Sees No Issues in Nexus 4 Supply Shortages
News from Droid Life:

After Google’s UK director called supply of its Nexus 4 “scarce and erratic” from LG, rumors have begun to suggest that LG may have cut orders to focus on future devices of their own. While those rumors are unconfirmed, what we do have now is an LG exec mentioning to a Korean publication that production is proceeding as planned and a denial that there are any supply issues.

Clearly, this exec hasn’t taken a spin through the Google Play store or any other retail outlet that sells the device across the globe. The Nexus 4 has been unavailable from Google for a month now, with no sign of a return. We aren’t sure what the status is at T-Mobile stores, but can’t imag…………… continues on Droid Life

LG’s Quad-Core Optimus Phone Heading to Europe But Not the U.S.

LG’s Quad-Core Optimus Phone Heading to Europe But Not the U.S.
News from Wired News:

LG’s first quad-core smartphone, the Optimus 4X HD, is launching in Europe next month, taking on other four-core flagships such as the HTC One X and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III. Just one caveat: The top-of-the-line Optimus 4X HD might not make its way to the U.S.

At this point, no quad-core smartphones have come to North America, though Samsung’s Galaxy S III has been announced with a four-core CPU, and a stateside launch of sometime later this summer.

The North American version of the HTC One X packs a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor rather than the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 chip in the international version. We tested both versions, and didn’t notice any performance dips in the dual-core model.

On Tuesday, LG said the Optimus 4X, which uses the same 1.5GHz Tegra 3 processor…………… continues on Wired News

Virgin Mobile gets a Google Wallet phone: LG Optimus Elite
News from GigaOM:

As the only major U.S. carrier backing Google Wallet, Sprint is trying to help its cause, releasing the LG Optimus Elite for Virgin Mobile on Tuesday. Virgin Mobile is a Sprint-owned pre-paid brand and the new handset is the first on Virgin Mobile to include a near-field communications (NFC) chip that can use Google’s Wallet for mobile purchases. The Android 2.3 handset is priced at $ 149.99 with pre-paid plans starting at $ 35 per month.

The Optimus Elite is a successor to last year’s Optimus V. I reviewed a variant of that device and found it to be a solid performer for the then $ 149 price tag. At the same cost, the new Elite offers a few welcome upgrades: a faster 800 MHz processor and 5 megapixel rear camera with a flash and video capabilities to name a few. The 3.5-inch display is still just HVGA, or 480 x 320 resolution, however. Virgin Mobile and LG are supplementing the on-board storage with 50 GB of free cloud capacity through Box.com.

NFC may be the biggest new feature here, however. Google is struggling to gain customers for its Google Wallet service as another carrier-backed group consisting o…………… continues on GigaOM

Samsung, Apple grow U.S. phone sales as others lag

Samsung, Apple grow U.S. phone sales as others lag
News from GigaOm:

From May to August of this year, Samsung and Apple continue to grow handset sales in the U.S. while Motorola, Research in Motion and LG are losing ground. The data comes from a ComScore report published on Wednesday and indicates that the two dominant handset makers have more compelling products for sale. And this sales data is prior to the new Apple iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S 2 smartphones.

Samsung accounted for 25.3 percent of all handsets sold by the end of the quarter, up from 24.8 percent three months prior. Likewise, Apple’s share jumped to 9.8 percent from 8.7 percent; likely boosted by availability on Verizon’s network and because the company’s iPhone 4 is still the top selling smartphone, even after launching more than 16 months ago.

T-Mobile to Roll Out 12 Phones, Reliance on Samsung May Backfire
News from Forbes:

T-Mobile is rolling out 12 new smartphones, a tablet and Wi-Fi hotspots, but move plan may backfire if Apple’s patent battle with Samsung affects distribution.

The Bellevue, Wash.-based carrier’s product launch will begin on October 10 and continue through November 19. The busiest roll-out day is scheduled for November 2, when the carrier plans to release six new Samsung smartphones.

T-Mobile’s is staking its claim as the holiday season approaches, especially as the iPhone 4S arrive at Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. But, T-Mobile’s heavy emphasis on Samsung is putting the carrier under pressure as tensions escalate abroad.

Apple is demanding a federal injunction banning sales of Samsung’s Galaxy products over patent litigation, with a hearing set for October 13, just three days after T-Mobile’s first roll-out. If Apple is successful, it would mean Samsung would need to negotiate a royalty settlement or risk a ban on its products, which coincides with the crucial…………… continues on Forbes
