TECH TIME: Verizon’s LG Lucid offers decent smartphone for low price VIDEO
News from Dearborn Press and Guide:

There are tons of new smartphone releases each year, usually each one greater than the next as all the big brands compete to have the most popular and latest greatest phone on the market.

These are the offerings that draw the crowd that wants the absolute best, but they are usually pretty pricey. So what is someone to do who wants to save a few bucks but not get a junk phone?

Thankfully, there is an increasing amount of quality products coming out for the more budget conscious. For Verizon Wireless customers, this list now includes the LG Lucid, a new smartphone from Verizon that isn’t going to compete with the biggest name phones like your iPhones, HTC Ones or Galaxy S3s, but will serve the needs of a less demanding user.

I recently spent some time with the Lucid, and here’s a full report.

LOOKS

You get the standard thin candybar design on the Lucid, and its 4-inch screen is pretty large but smaller than many new phones on the market. This may or not be something you appreciate. If you want a huge phone, there are plenty of options out there bigger than the Lucid. But I’m willing to bet most people will find 4 inches big enough. It feels quite comfortable in your hand, which is important. Gorilla Glass protects the screen, which is nice, and the weight is a very light 5 ounces. Exact size specs are 4.69 inches high, 2.4…………… continues on Dearborn Press and Guide

LG Optimus Elite – a Budget and Eco-friendly Phone
News from The Driod Guy:

June 1st, 2012 by Roxanne Leave a reply »

Here is another smartphone that is green, eco-friendly, and price conscious. This is also good for starters. The LG Optimus Elite is the successor of the very popular Optimus S.

The plastic case is made up to 50 percent of recycled plastic.  LG Optimus is inexpensive, small and light with 3.5-inch capacitive display, single core 800MHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 5-megapixel camera and also enabled with NFC capability.  By the way, this is the third device launched from Sprint.

LG Optimus Elite is not really for everyone because it has its pros and cons.  Indeed this is really good for starters for being budget and eco-friendly which is made of recycled plastic, small, lightweight and pocket-friendly.

LG Optimus Elite comes with Gingerbread.  For advanced users of smartphones, I know you are not comfortable with it and with its single-core processor, you may find this one very slow.  With a screen size of 3.5 inches it has a low resolution approximately at 320×480.  It is also one of…………… continues on The Driod Guy

Pantech, LG Vie for Runner-Up Spot in LTE Smartphone Market
News from The Chosun Ilbo:

Pantech and LG Electronics are competing fiercely for second place in Korea’s 4G long-term evolution (LTE) phone market.

Pantech sold some 210,000 units of its flagship Vega Racer 2 since it was launched on May 11. Citing data released by market research firm Gartner, the phone maker said it took second place in the overall domestic smartphone market with a 20.5 percent share in the first quarter.

Pantech hopes it can consolidate its position in the LTE market with its new model, which supports Korean-language voice recognition and delivers up to 9.5 hours of talk time per battery charge.

Meanwhile, LG said it has sold 150,000 units of its Optimus LTE 2 since its launch on May 21. Despite the fact that the Vega Racer 2 has sold 60,000 more units so far, overall sales figures are not dissimilar because Pantech had a 10-day head start.

“In fact, LG has gained the edge in the LTE market,” said an employee at LG. The company claims its new phone has the fastest data-processing speed among all local models.

However, neither hold a candle to sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Note, which hit the market last November. Some 2.5 million units were sold in the last six months, making it the top-selling LTE smartphone in the domestic market.

“The Note is proving hugely popular, grabbing about 50 percent of the domestic LTE market for t…………… continues on The Chosun Ilbo

UK: LG Prada 3.0 can now be yours for just £239.99
News from Unwired View:

The LG Prada 3.0 (or Prada Phone by LG 3.0, or Prada Phone 3.0 by LG – the company doesn’t seem to be very clear about this phone’s name) has been available in the UK since February. So far, the pricing’s been indicative of a typical high-end Android smartphone. But now you have the chance of getting a pretty decent handset for a great price. And let’s not forget that it has the name Prada slapped on its front – that’s got to be worth something to someone.

The Prada 3.0 can now be yours for just £239.99, a far cry from the £400+ you were previously required to pay for this exact same device. Expansys is the retailer making this possible, so go there and order some Pradas. At this price, it’s actually not a bad smartphone.

LG May Not Release Microsoft Windows Phones for the Time Being

LG May Not Release Microsoft Windows Phones for the Time Being
News from GizmoCrave:

Ever since news of Windows 7 Phone OS reached people’s ears, they have been very curious about it. Reviews have been good and some even went to the extent of saying that it could actually compete with Android.

A lot of Windows Phone devices have been announced recently, with promising features which shows manufacturers’ belief in the OS.

LG was one of those companies which we thought would launch a Microsoft Windows–based phone soon and there were even rumors about an upcoming LG phone named Fantasy. This device was speculated to be a Windows-based phone, but it looks like it all could be just lies now.

We hear  LG does not want anything to do with Windows, because Windows phones don’t have good sales in the global market and so they do not want to risk it.

From what it looks like, LG still remembers what happened back in the year 2008 with Microsoft, when the company took a chance with Microsoft Windows to make some Windows Phone devices.

They were later blown out of the way by Samsung and its brilliant plan to make Android phones which turned out to be a great idea.

Is LG making a bad decision now? Or, have they actually thought it through? What do you feel?

The Best Phones From Every Carrier
News from PCWorld:

Four of the best smartphones: (left) the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx; (top middle) the Nokia Lumia 900; (bottom middle) the Sprint LG Viper; and (right) the T-Mobile HTC One S. Shopping for a new smartphone can be overwhelming.

So many good phones are available that upgraders may feel swamped with options. Never fear: I’ve picked the best ones on each of the four major carriers. And since the smartphone world moves incredibly fast, I’ll also tell you about phones not yet out.

Worth noting are two upcoming phones I’m excited about but can’t yet recommend, because we don’t know enough about them. One, the Samsung Galaxy S III, will debut in Europe before arriving in the United States. Most carriers likely will get a version of the S III, though so far none of them have confirmed that they will. Another wild card is the

TECH TIME REVIEW: LG Spectrum to provide competition to heavyweights in …
News from Heritage Newspapers:

A new year brings an avalanche of new smartphones. Among the early offerings from Verizon Wireless is the LG Spectrum, a phone with some impressive specs that should provide competition to the heavyweight phones on the market, even in a crowded market.

LG isn’t the most well-known brand in the smartphone game, but with the Spectrum, they arguably have their best product yet and are becoming more of a player that people should take seriously.

I recently took the Spectrum for a test run, and I’ll let you know how it compares to the competition.

LOOKS

The LG Spectrum boasts a large screen – 4.5 inches to be exact. This is the new norm in cell phones, and makes for bigger areas to view videos and movies and to play games. There are some people who don’t want a phone this big, especially those with smaller hands, and they’ll likely avoid the Spectrum and similar sized phones.

The materials used on the Spectrum are very high quality, as it comes with what feels like a built-in case. That means that a drop here and there will likely not cause any major damage. The screen is secure too, as it is protected by Gorilla Glass.

Exact specs are 5.33″ x 2.71″ 0.41″, and the weight is 4.99 oz.

LG Fantasy Mango smartphone photos leaked
News from SlashGear:

Worth Reading?

-1 [3 votes]

Another smartphone to add to the Mango world for Windows Phone comes here in the LG Fantasy, code named E740 and very likely the same device we saw earlier this week in the LG Miracle. This device is one that’ll be sporting a lovely 4-inch super-bright NOVA display, a 1GHz Snapdragon single-core processor, and a 5 megapixel camera on the back – so you know what that means: mid-range time! LG will certainly need to come correct with the price on this beast if they hope to put a kink in the already standardized set of devices out there for Windows Phone right this minute – drowning is a distinct possibility!

That said, this “Not for sale” labeled working unit does appare to have ScanSearch and what PlayTo has been renamed as: SmartShare, both of these previously exc…………… continues on SlashGear

Leaked photos of LG Miracle Windows Phone emerge
News from CNET:

The LG Miracle
(Credit: Pocketnow)

Photos of a new Windows Phone, dubbed the LG Miracle, have been revealed by Pocketnow, and boy does it look…underwhelming.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no qualms with either LG or Microsoft, and I’m always excited to hear about what new phones will be sporting the Windows Phone platform.

But seriously, if it weren’t for that fake lens flare up at the top right, my eyes would have just glazed over the whole picture. It looks like every other (save for the Nokia Lumias) Windows Phone we’ve seen so far.

As far as the specs go, the phone is expected to have a 4-inch NOVA display, 8GB of internal storage, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera (able to handle 720p video recordings), a front-facing VGA camera, and HSPA connectivity.

The phone is also rumored to have an NFC chip, which will allow it to wirelessly transfer data between itself and nearby NFC enabled devices.

We anticipated the chip appearing in phones stocked with Windows Phone 8. Those are scheduled to come out some time around Q4. But since the LG Miracle is coming in spring, perhaps users will take a bite out of the NFC chip earlier than expected.

There hasn’t been any word from LG officials yet…………… continues on CNET
