LG G Flex: A Poor Start for Curved Phones

LG G Flex: A Poor Start for Curved Phones
News from Mashable:

What’s This?

Image: Mashable, Christina Ascani

As the first phone with a curved screen to go on sale in the U.S., the LG G Flex commands attention. It screams, both as an object and as a new kind of device, “Hey, look at me!” Once you do, the implied follow-up is, “Do you like what you see?”

Uh, kinda? I’ve spent a lot of time with many different smartphones over the past few years, and never once have I thought, “You know what this phone needs? A curved screen.”

I have, however, occasionally longed for a bendable phone that I could fold up into a sugar-cube-size device. That would truly be amazing (not to mention useful) and curved phones are a stepping stone toward that magical future. Some variation of that vision is probably why LG reportedly

Moto G, LG G Flex and Micromax Bolt A37: Week’s important launches
News from India Today:

India Today Online  New Delhi, February 9, 2014 | UPDATED 11:17 IST

The week that went by has been an eventful one in the Indian mobile market as three important phones were launched during the week, each of which is meant for three different segments.

While the LG G Flex, carrying a whopping price Rs 69,999, is a premium handset aimed at people with deep pockets, the recently launched Motorola’s Moto G for Rs 12,499 is a budget phone having the backing of a reputed brand. The Moto G has been into the limelight since its announcement a few months ago. As it has hit the Indian market now, the pure Android phone is selling like hot cakes with Flipkart running out of the stocks within few hours of its launch. Another phone that made it to the market is Mircomax Bold A37. The Micromax Bolt A37 is priced at Rs. 3,999. This affordable smartphone is from the Indian handset maker and is aimed at entry level customers. With this price, the company is offering 3-G support and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

LG G Flex

The LG G Flex is a top-level smartphone that comes with a ‘real’ curved screen. It is also flexible as when it is pushed against its curves, the LG G Flex flattens. And when the pressure is removed, the phone reverts to original curved shape.

The device with 6-inch 720p curved display run…………… continues on India Today

T-Mobile LG G2 Receiving Update D80110g, Start Checking Your Phones Now

Wednesday, January 8th, 2014

T-Mobile LG G2 Receiving Update D80110g, Start Checking Your Phones Now
News from Droid Life:

If you are the owner of an LG G2 on T-Mobile, you should start checking your device for an update. T-Mobile is rolling out a tiny OTA update to these devices on their network starting today and running through the next few weeks. The build number will be updated to D80110g, but other than that not too much will change.

In fact, the only hint of change that we are receiving from T-Mobile is that this OTA will be “improvements to software stability.” No new features or anything more specific than that, but T-Mobile and LG figured that this 147MB update was important enough to rollout on its own. As long as the phone is better off after the update we are happy.

To check for the update, head into Settings>About device>Software update >Update Now. If you do not see it already or after checking, keep looking over the next week.

CES 2014: Hands-on preview with the LG Fireweb Firefox phone
News from ITProPortal:

Mozilla is aiming its line of Firefox phones at emerging markets, promising smartphone power at sub-smartphone prices. The latest entry, the LG Fireweb, is a bigger, faster Firefox handset, but still keeps prices down. We had the chance to go hands-on with the phone at CES.

The LG Fireweb is a boxy, squarish phone, with a 1GHz processor, 4in, 320 x 480 screen and 5-megapixel camera. That gives it a leg up on the earlier ZTE Open, but it’s still a lower-resolution screen than I’m used to seeing at this size. It’s a 3G phone, and it has GPS and a built-in FM radio.

The major feature here, of course, is Firefox OS, and that works similarly to other Firefox phones I’ve seen. The 1GHz processor definitely helped; while I wouldn’t call the phone completely snappy, it was less sluggish than previous Firefox phones were. Like the ZTE Open which we tested in September, the phone has a full web browser and a range of apps which are either web bookmarks or locally stored HTML5 apps. I clicked on the Wikipedia app, and scrolled through a page finding the experience much like a basic Android phone or an older iPhone…………… continues on ITProPortal

Best Buy and Wirefly start selling the LG Nexus 4

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Best Buy and Wirefly start selling the LG Nexus 4
News from IntoMobile:

Android fans still looking for a Nexus 4 handset should point their browser to Best Buy’s website. The electronics retailer is selling the LG handset for $ 199 with a two-year T-Mobile customer agreement. The handset is in stock with a 3-5 day shipping window.

Wirefly is also carrying the Nexus 4 and has undercut Best Buy by $ 50 on the price of the phone. Both eligible renewal and new customers can buy the T-Mobile Nexus 4 for $ 149 with a two-year customer agreement. Wirefly is also throwing in free Fedex shipping with all orders.

Those looking for an off-contract Nexus 4 may want to wait until the handset makes it appearance again in the Google Play Store. The 16GB Nexus 4 retails for $ 349 on Google Play, while both Best Buy and Wirefly are offering the T-Mobile version of th phone for more than $ 500.

LG Miracle appears in real life, we start to believe

LG Miracle appears in real life, we start to believe
News from Engadget:

LG’s smartphone workshop is keeping itself busy. Alongside the manufacturer’s attempt to out-Note Samsung, its latest Windows Phone has resurfaced. A kindly mole has offered some better focused (but unfortunately watermarked to heck) shots of LG’s first Mango-laced Windows Phone. Skinnier that we expected, we can now make out a front-facing camera, paired up with a rear-facing five-megapixel primary shooter on the back. It’s still a prototype, judging by that not-so-subtle “not for sale” etching on the back, but expect the Miracle — when it does go official — to match those middleweight credentials leaked so far.

The Android conundrum
News from India Today:

Froyo, Gingerbread or Ice-Cream Sandwich? Dual-core or single-core? Keyboard or no keyboard? Motorola, LG, HTC, Samsung or Sony Ericsson?

Out in the market to buy a phone running Google’s Android mobile operating system? Welcome to the club of the largest mobile operating systems, but with over 200 devices running one version of Android or the other, choosing the right phone is hardly an enviable task. Let’s look at the two important things you have to keep in mind while buying an Android phone and the best devices at every Android price point.

Quad-core worth the wait:
Processors will only get faster every few months. Most of the fastest (and thus most expensive) Android devices are powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon or Nvidia Tegra dual-core processors. But a greater number of cores does not make a processor that much faster; it just makes it more efficient at handling data.

Android devices can have multiple processes on at one time, but multi-core processors could prevent phones from hanging, which is a constant issue with early Android models.

Buying a multi-core processor is expensive, so getting a dualcore device such as the HTC Sensation with a dual-core Nvidia Tegra processor can be an expensive proposition. Sure, the Sensation has ‘Augmented Reality’ applications, great video processing and what not. But is…………… continues on India Today
