LG Spectrum 2 Review (Verizon)

LG Spectrum 2 Review (Verizon)
News from SlashGear:

We’ve been seeing a lot of really good high-end handsets lately (like the Galaxy Note II and the HTC DROID DNA), but all the while, LG has been putting out some solid mid-range phones. Not too long ago, we reviewed the LG Optimus L9, a mid-range device at T-Mobile that wasn’t extraordinary in any way but still a quality handset all around, and today it’s the Verizon Spectrum 2 that’s taking center stage. The question is whether or not this smartphone is yet another good mid-range entry from LG, or if it falls short when held up against the dozens of other mid-range handsets ready to be taken home.

LG Spectrum 2 (Verizon Wireless)
News from PC Magazine:

By Alex Colon

The original LG Spectrum was a high-end smartphone with a high-end price tag. Fast forward less than a year later, and we have the LG Spectrum 2. It’s designed to compete with the rest of the heavy hitters in Verizon’s lineup, and in most regards, it succeeds. But LG made one key difference this time around: Price. The LG Spectrum 2 is a high-end phone, but at $ 99.99, it costs half the price as other top choices in Verizon’s lineup. That makes it a seriously good buy.

Verizon’s been busy the past few weeks, racking up amazing phone after amazing phone to join their fall line-up. LG Spectrum 2 From Verizon Offers Wireless Charging, NFC, 4G
News from eWeek:

Verizon Wireless is now offering the LG Spectrum 2. Priced at $ 99, the Android smartphone features a 4.7-inch display, wireless charging, NFC and mobile hotspot features.

Verizon Wireless is now exclusively offering the LG Spectrum 2, a 4G-enabled smartphone that has cherry-picked a few key features from around the industry.

Priced at $ 99.99 after a mail-in rebate (that’s of course with a two-year contract), it may in particular pose a challenge to Nokia’s new Lumia devices, which share a key feature—wireless charging.

The Nokia Lumia 920 was introduced in September with accessories that make it possible to take a wire-free power nap on a charging pillow; the lower-end 820 has a removable back that users can swap out for a different color or a with back that enables the phone to charge wirelessly. The Spectrum 2 comes with a wireless charging cover in the box.

A global Android device running 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), the Spectrum 2 features a 4.7-inch True HD Advanced High Performance (AH) In-Plane Switching (IPS) display with Corning Gorilla Glass. It runs a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, comes with 16GB of internal storage, suppor…………… continues on eWeek

The LG Spectrum isn’t necessarily my favorite phone. It’s got pretty nice specs and a killer screen, but there’s something to be said about the way a phone draws you in from across the room. I don’t mean to get all romantic or dramatic about it, but it’s still true: appearance matters. Windows Phones have that engaging, compelling live tile interface. The iPhone has its stunning design and piano black shine. Motorola’s Razr has that crazy thin profile, and Samsung has the ultimate combo in the form of its Galaxy series: giant, gorgeous screens with beautiful design.

LG doesn’t really have that, and this is particularly apparent on the Spectrum. I’…………… continues on TechCrunch

Review: LG Optimus Sol E730
News from Times of India:

NEW DELHI: LG was the first one to come with a dual-core phone ( LG Optimus 2X), a 3D phone (Optimus 3D) and a phone with super bright yet energy efficient display ( Optimus Black). Continuing the tradition, they have launched the Optimus Sol, the first phone to feature an Ultra AMOLED display.

The 3.8-inch ultra amoled display on the front is very impressive and stands neck to neck with Samsung’ Super AMOLED display. It outputs rich colors with outstanding black levels and top-notch clarity. Even under direct sunlight, content is clearly readable and visible on the screen.

Adding to the good things of the phone is its multimedia performance. Superb audio output in the headphones as well as in voice calls. The video player played a 720p HD file without any glitch as well. Moreover, the rear 5MP camera took surprisingly remarkable shots – both in day light and indoors. Even the videos (720p HD in MP4 format) recorded from the camera are impressive.

LG Spectrum 4G now just $ 79.99 at online retailer
News from Technology Bloom News:

If you happen to have Verizon for your wireless provider of choice and at the same time do a lot of travelling overseas, your Verizon-issued handset would definitely be useless when in a different country. However, with the addition of the LG Spectrum 4G to the lineup of the carrier, that is about to change. You see, the LG Spectrum 4G is considered as the first global-ready world phone being offered by Verizon so if you have one of these babies, you no longer have to contend with the problem of finding a mobile phone in whatever country or territory you end up on.

However, if the $ 199.99 price point of the LG Spectrum 4G when you get it directly from the carrier somehow puts you off, then you would certainly want to consider the current deal that Amazon Wireless has for the handset. Currently, the wireless arm of retail giant Amazon is offering the LG Spectrum 4G from Verizon for an unbelievable low price of $ 79.99. You would need to sig…………… continues on Technology Bloom News

Tech Talk Review: LG Spectrum
News from KWCH:

(WICHITA, Kan.)—

The LG Spectrum has a lot of things going for it, but a few things going against it. It’s a sleek, cool looking phone and has all the cool features you probably are now expecting from an Android enabled device. But the things holding it back keep me from smiling wildly.

The phone has a very nice 4.5 inch HD quality screen and illuminating home buttons on the bottom. The default lay-out of the home screens were a pleasant surprise over other phones I’ve tested. With one screen dedicated strictly to media stored on it and others for weather and other widgets.

The phone I tested runs on the Verizon network, and usually Verizon has terrific call quality. But people I called complained about hearing background noise and sometimes were having trouble hearing me.

The phone ships with Android’s Gingerbread OS. This puzzled me because Ice Cream Sandwich is now available on quite a few phones. Even though the phone is supposed to compatible for an upgrade, not every Android…………… continues on KWCH

TECH TIME REVIEW: LG Spectrum to provide competition to heavyweights in …
News from Heritage Newspapers:

A new year brings an avalanche of new smartphones. Among the early offerings from Verizon Wireless is the LG Spectrum, a phone with some impressive specs that should provide competition to the heavyweight phones on the market, even in a crowded market.

LG isn’t the most well-known brand in the smartphone game, but with the Spectrum, they arguably have their best product yet and are becoming more of a player that people should take seriously.

I recently took the Spectrum for a test run, and I’ll let you know how it compares to the competition.

LOOKS

The LG Spectrum boasts a large screen – 4.5 inches to be exact. This is the new norm in cell phones, and makes for bigger areas to view videos and movies and to play games. There are some people who don’t want a phone this big, especially those with smaller hands, and they’ll likely avoid the Spectrum and similar sized phones.

The materials used on the Spectrum are very high quality, as it comes with what feels like a built-in case. That means that a drop here and there will likely not cause any major damage. The screen is secure too, as it is protected by Gorilla Glass.

Exact specs are 5.33″ x 2.71″ 0.41″, and the weight is 4.99 oz.

LG Fantasy Mango smartphone photos leaked

Another smartphone to add to the Mango world for Windows Phone comes here in the LG Fantasy, code named E740 and very likely the same device we saw earlier this week in the LG Miracle. This device is one that’ll be sporting a lovely 4-inch super-bright NOVA display, a 1GHz Snapdragon single-core processor, and a 5 megapixel camera on the back – so you know what that means: mid-range time! LG will certainly need to come correct with the price on this beast if they hope to put a kink in the already standardized set of devices out there for Windows Phone right this minute – drowning is a distinct possibility!

That said, this “Not for sale” labeled working unit does appare to have ScanSearch and what PlayTo has been renamed as: SmartShare, both of these previously exc…………… continues on SlashGear

Leaked photos of LG Miracle Windows Phone emerge
News from CNET:

The LG Miracle
(Credit: Pocketnow)

Photos of a new Windows Phone, dubbed the LG Miracle, have been revealed by Pocketnow, and boy does it look…underwhelming.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no qualms with either LG or Microsoft, and I’m always excited to hear about what new phones will be sporting the Windows Phone platform.

But seriously, if it weren’t for that fake lens flare up at the top right, my eyes would have just glazed over the whole picture. It looks like every other (save for the Nokia Lumias) Windows Phone we’ve seen so far.

As far as the specs go, the phone is expected to have a 4-inch NOVA display, 8GB of internal storage, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera (able to handle 720p video recordings), a front-facing VGA camera, and HSPA connectivity.

The phone is also rumored to have an NFC chip, which will allow it to wirelessly transfer data between itself and nearby NFC enabled devices.

We anticipated the chip appearing in phones stocked with Windows Phone 8. Those are scheduled to come out some time around Q4. But since the LG Miracle is coming in spring, perhaps users will take a bite out of the NFC chip earlier than expected.

There hasn’t been any word from LG officials yet…………… continues on CNET

When I received a box with the LG logo on it last week, I was skeptical. LG phones had always been a little bit on the vanilla side – they didn’t have the snazzy interface of HTC or the chassis appeal of Samsung. They were certainly competent, but I hadn’t seen anything that made me think, “Gee, that’s cool.”

The Spectrum has done quite a bit to change that opinion. First impressions can be everything — so when I opened the case and found myself staring at a 4.5-inch, high-definition display, set off by a minimalist bezel, I thought perhaps this was something different.

Turning it on proved a bit awkward – the length of the phone meant that it wanted to slide out of my hand. If you’re left-handed, however, it’s actually quite…………… continues on Wilkes Barre Times-Leader

First look review: The LG Spectrum on Verizon is a screen star
News from ConsumerReports.org:

The LG Spectrum, one of several promising smart phones announced at CES 2012, just became available on Verizon for $ 200 with a two-year contract. This phone’s high point is its 4.5-inch high-resolution (1280 x 720) display. Supposedly borrowing technology from LG’s best TV sets, the screen, combined with the phone’s 1.5-GHz dual-core processor and ultra-fast LTE 4G connection, provided sharp and smooth video streams from HD Netflix.

I was less impressed, though, with what LG did with the phone’s controls and interface to the phone’s Android 2.35 OS (Gingerbread). Though hardly fatal, the changes add some unnecessary steps to what were admirably simple procedures.

The Spectrum is virtually identical to the LG Nitro on AT&T, which scored high in our Ratings. It’s tall yet relatively narrow and thin, measuring 5.3 x 2.7 x 0.4 inches, which makes it reasonably comfortable to hold and control. Weighing in at 5 ounces, The Spectrum is actually an ounce lig…………… continues on ConsumerReports.org

LG Spectrum Smartphone HD Screen Shines for Multimedia Consumption

Monday, January 30th, 2012

LG Spectrum Smartphone HD Screen Shines for Multimedia Consumption
News from eWeek:

The LG Spectrum smartphone, available now from Verizon Wireless for $ 199.99 on contract, is the latest in a long line of multimedia-friendly Android handsets that flaunts large screens, big battery life and powerful application processing.

It’s quite possible, this Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) smartphone, powered by Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, might have the nicest, most crystal-clear screen yet seen on an Android handset.

That’s because this phone’s 4.5-inch, True HD IPS (in-plane switching) display, boasting 1280-by-720 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio features the same display technology LG employs for its HD TVs.

Think of Spectrum as possessing an HD TV screen, only vastly scaled down to fit in the palm of the hand, which it does well at .40 inches thin. The display is also made of Corning’s Gorilla Glass, making it incredibly tough and scratch proof. See the phone’s full spe…………… continues on eWeek

LG Optimus L3 E400 budget Android 2.3 Gingerbread phone appears in Sweden
News from Recombu:

We’ve yet to hear anything about the LG Optimus 2 headed to the UK, but we might be getting the similarly-specced LG Optimus L3 aka the LG E400.

Available to pre-order now from CDON for the equivalent of £120 (converted from 1290 kr), the LG Optimus L3 has a 3.2-inch screen (320×240 pixels) a 3-megapixel camera (no flash) and comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Design-wise it looks a little like Nokia’s Lumia 800 with that curved metallic edge on the front and sides and a bit like the Samsung Galaxy Ace’s latticed pattern on the back.

Coming in black and white editions the LG Optimus L3 is expected in stock on the 27th of February. It looks like the white versions have already gone, but GSM Arena managed to swipe a few pics of the white version which we’ve included here.

We’d therefore expect to see this on LG’s stand at Mobile World Congress. As for word of a UK release, we’ve contacted LG and are waiting to hear back – stay tuned for an update.
