Why You Should Wait for the LG G4
News from Gotta Be Mobile:

Over the past month more rumors have continued to surface about the new LG G4, and it will be a smartphone worth waiting for. Last year the impressive LG G3 was arguably one of the best Android smartphones released, and had some of the best specs available. However, the LG G3 is a smartphone that is now a year old, and about to be replaced.

Last year, LG announced the all-new LG G3 at the end of May, but it took well over a month to finally arrive for US buyers in July. The phone was very popular for having a stunning 5.5-inch display with extremely sleek bezels, an improved camera, and it ran Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. That said, something better is coming soon.

Sony’s Xperia Z3 Resists The Urge To Follow Samsung And LG Into High …
News from Forbes:

One of the big surprises that came along with the launch of Sony’s Sony’s Xperia Z3 today was the news that Sony – a traditionally innovation and display-focused company – was not going to be adding a 1440×2560 resolution resolution – known as quad HD – screen into its new smartphone. But this is one decision that actually makes a great deal of sense.

Sony Xperia Z tablet and LG Optimus Pro G phone unveiled

Sony Xperia Z tablet and LG Optimus Pro G phone unveiled
News from BBC News:

Sony’s new tablet shares the water resistant facility offered by its flagship handset

Sony has unveiled what it says is the thinnest tablet computer of its kind.

The Android-powered Xperia Z is 0.27in (6.9mm)-thick. That is 0.01in thinner than Apple’s iPad Mini despite featuring a bigger 10.1in screen.

It coincides with news that LG is releasing a 5in handset – the Optimus G Pro – making it the latest to offer the so-called “phablet” form factor.

Both devices have only been confirmed for release in Japan, but more details are expected next month.

Mobile World Congress is being held in Barcelona from 25 to 28 February and is a popular time to announce global launches of new smart devices.

Samsung has already said it would show off a new 8in version of its Galaxy Note tablet family at the event.

Beyond being thin, Sony’s new tablet can also lay claim to being the lightest for its size.

LG May Release Windows Phone 8 Device in 2013
News from Eastern Morning Herald:

LG’s recent flagships and pseudo-flagships have all been Android-powered devices – the Optimus G, the Nexus 4, and even slightly older phones such as the Optimus Vu. With the Optimus G and Nexus 4 currently enjoying a great deal of success and a lot of press coverage, it would stand to reason that LG would have no need for Windows Phone at this point.

However, a new rumor suggests that LG is working on a handset that would see the Korean company make a return to Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

Despite releasing the Windows Phone 7-powered Optimus 7 and Optimus 7Q in 2010, LG wasn’t one of the OEMs selected by Microsoft to release its first batch of Windows Phone 8 handsets. Now, times may be changing, according to the Korea Times. The report quoted an unnamed LG executive in saying that LG “will release quite a number of new Optimus devices this year”, with some of these new smartphones to run on Windows Phone 8 and not Android.

This is the same source that had suggested that LG will be unveiling a…………… continues on Eastern Morning Herald

LG, Panasonic, Sony TVs Will Use Android Phones as YouTube Remotes

New TVs and devices from Sony, LG, Panasonic and Bang & Olufsen are the first from beyond the Googlesphere to feature YouTube’s “send to TV” feature, which essentially turns your Android phone or tablet into a YouTube remote for your big-screen.

Thursday’s announcement answers a question we’ve had since November, when Google announced a cool update to its YouTube mobile apps. The update allows users to push videos on their Android phone or tablet onto Google TV-equipped TVs. Go…………… continues on Wired

Did LG Just Tease a New Phone in Their CES Press Event Trailer?
News from Droid Life:

With CES only days away, the rumormill is working overtime thanks to companies like LG. We just posted a story about the company possibly unveiling the 5.5″ Optimus G2 at the event, but this new teaser video may help back that in some form.

At the 18-second mark, if you can last that long with the 90s French discotheque track playing in the background, you’ll see a device that resembles either a tablet or a smartphone. You can see the bottom screws peaking through, a design highlight that graced both the original Optimus G and the Nexus 4. Beyond this quick shot, though, you can’t see much else. It could be the phone-tablet hybrid that has been talked about a variety of times over the last few days, or we could just be imagining things.

Google Nexus rumors suggest phones from Samsung, LG, and Sony this year
News from Android Community:

The time for those Nexus device rumors to start heating up is now. Earlier today we saw a leaked spec sheet claiming Samsung was preparing another Galaxy Nexus-like device, possible the Galaxy Nexus II, and now we have an entirely new spin to the rumor. Do you think we’ll see multiple “Nexus” phones this year? Read on to find out.

Back in May the WSJ suggested Google could be offering as many as 5 Nexus devices this year from multiple hardware partners. We already have the Nexus 7 from ASUS, and new reports are now suggesting more this fall from Samsung, LG, and even the folks at Sony. A new report from AndroidNoodles claims NTT DoCoMo has three different Nexus branded devices all on their roadmap for this winter.

Sony and LG ditch phones in Jelly Bean and ICS upgrade cycle
News from SlashGear:

Worth Reading?

Android fragmentation, what Android fragmentation? Oh, there it is. Sony and LG are surprising few but disappointing plenty with confirmation that several devices apiece won’t be getting new versions of the OS. For Sony, it’s the Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro which have reached the end of the update line, with no chance of an official Jelly Bean release. However, the news is arguably even worse for some LG users, who still aren’t even on Ice Cream Sandwich.

LG Canada has admitted that neither the Optimus 2X nor the Optimus Black will be upgraded from Gingerbread. Both handsets were expected to receive Ice Cream Sandwich – the Optimus 2X in Q2 initially, with the Optimus Black said to receive an u…………… continues on SlashGear

Open-Source Phone Pushes The Boundaries Of DIY Tech
News from EarthTechling:

Tired of high cost mobile phones? Feel guilty that while you’ve got a paper thin phone, it’s hard to recycle elements are destroying the planet ? Turns out, you don’t need Samsung or LG to stay in touch with those you love.

David A. Mellis, from MITs High-Low Tech group, has created a DIY mobile phone out of easily obtained electronic parts and a little bit of plywood. It may not have the internet connectivity or giant touchscreen of your current mobile phone, but it’s a completely self-made, operational phone, which means it’s low impact and free from the constraints of mass production.

According to Mellis, the initial prototype combines a custom electronic circuit board with a laser-cut plywood and veneer enclosure. The phone accepts a standard SIM card and works with any GSM provider. Cellular connectivity is provided by the SM5100B GSM Module, available from SparkFun Electronics. LG Optimus Vu, Verizon’s suspect Note alternative
News from Product Reviews:

With all of the exciting talk surrounding the elusive Samsung Galaxy Note 2, there is still the matter of the first Note arriving on new carriers in the US. T-Mobile is now getting the device and although a Galaxy Note on Verizon doesn’t look to be happening any more, Big Red does have another ‘phablet’ device for consumers to consider.

LG has a smartphone and tablet combi in the pipeline after first announcing the device back at MWC 2012 in February, and it looks like the LG Optimus Vu is now ready for launch. The bad news is that the design seems to be coming in for a lot of criticism, as many of you are unhappy with the rectangular design firstly, but also the amount of branding on the device as well.

The Vu is a 5-inch device which Verizon hopes will provide consumers with a Galaxy Note-like experience on their network. Hardware specs are decent, but nothing amazing either – you’ll get a 1.5Ghz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and an 8MP rear camera combined with a 1.8MP front camera.

The choice of software may be a disappointment too, especially with all of the buzz surrounding Jelly Bean at the moment. A

LG Optimus 4X HD Vs. Sony Xperia S: Head-to-Head Comparison

LG Optimus 4X HD Vs. Sony Xperia S: Head-to-Head Comparison
News from Eastern Morning Herald:

LG and Sony are two companies that, despite having wildly divergent histories, haven’t exactly set the Android smartphone market on fire. Both firms have tried their best to turn the situation around, with the Sony Xperia S and LG Optimus 4X HD, their flagship smartphones.

Both phones have a squared-off aesthetic that serves as an interesting counterpoint to the increasingly curvy competition. The Xperia S is marginally narrower and shorter than the Optimus 4X HD, but is also slightly heavier.

The two handsets also have excellent screens as befitting their high-end market placement. The LG’s 4.7-inch IPS-based display has a 720p resolution, which equals a pixel density of 312ppi. In contrast, the Sony handset features a 4.3-inch screen with the same 1280 x 720 resolution – equivalent to a remarkable 342ppi of density.

These smartphones also offer limited storage options. The Optimus 4X HD has 16GB of onboard storage, with support for 32GB of space on a microSD card. Meanwhile, the Xperia S only comes in a 32GB flavor and does not have a microSD slot.

Meanwhile, the specifications sheet hands a victory to the Optimus 4X HD. Its 1.5GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset clearly outpaces the 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdra…………… continues on Eastern Morning Herald

LG Optimus Handsets Soon to Have ‘Quick Voice’ Software
News from The Driod Guy:

LG now has a voice recognition software counterpart for Samsung’s S Voice and Apple’s Siri called Quick Voice. The feature will be available soon on the line of LG Optimus phones such as the upcoming Vu, which will be released this June, and the LTE II, which will arrive next month.

The feature combines voice recognition and virtual assistant functionalities, a lot like Siri and S Voice do, by allowing users to access smartphone functionalities by means of voice input. LG is launching it with support for 11 apps, including text message, voice call, alarm, calendar, and phone book.

Moreover, it enables users to perform web searches, and get updates on the weather and stocks. Korean users also enjoy an exclusive feature that permits them to check the lunar calendar using Quick Voice. It remains to be seen whether this will eventually be available for other international users.

LG claims that a strong feature of Quick Voice is its ability to comprehend natural conversational language. Essentially, it appears that Quick Voice will ask a series of question to know what the users want to do, and the questions become more and more specific.

At this point, we do not know how Quick Voice differs from the voice recognition software already available from Samsung and Apple. Moreover, the list of languages that Quick Voice will support is also unknown,…………… continues on The Driod Guy
