LG’s tablet offering the G Pad 8.3

LG appears to be one of the tech companies who are getting their hands on the Firefox OS technology with their alleged new addition to the L Series smartphones.

Recent item from the rumor mill pointed out sketches of the purported handset along with a couple of screenshots depicting the device’s specification details which are being leaked online.

The leak was first propagated by @upleaks and was then picked up by a number of tech websites including that of GSMArena.com and NDTVGadgets.com.

According to GSMArena, the LG L25 will only be made available Japanese carrier KDDI which apparently means that it won’t be making its way to other territories.

“[LG L25 in] Firefox platform is mostly about budget devices so you shouldn’t expect anything groundbreaking,” the site meanwhile indicated.

As for what it would look like, the leaked images described the upcoming LG unit having a single home button, rear and front-facing cameras with flash and sensors, plus a speaker located at the lower right of the phone’s rear panel.

LG and Qualcomm Holding Event on September 19, Ready for a Snapdragon S4 …
News from Droid Life:

At the end of August, and just before the start of IFA in Berlin, LG announced the Optimus G. At the time, I referred to it as a “beast” because of its insane specs and the fact that the phone is the first to sport Qualcomm’s new quad-core Snapdragon S4 with an Adreno 320 GPU. Beyond the processor, it also has a 4.7″ True HD IPS display with 320ppi and will look equally as good as the new iPhone 5 display because it’s full sRGB. Not only will it look brilliant, but is the first to use LG’s G2 Touch Hybrid technology which means the display itself is ultra thin and cuts down on reflections. We’re talking a serious phone here, folks.

So when LG invited us to their September 19 event in NYC where they have partnered up with Qualcomm, we immediately thought, “Optimus G for the U.S.?” We don’t have confirmation on that being the case or anything, but what else could it be? Qualcomm wouldn’t be headlining another dual-core Snapdragon S4 phone event, right?

We’ll know for sure next week when our man Kover is on the scen…………… continues on Droid Life

LG’s Next-Gen Phone Has New Display, Battery, Snapdragon

LG’s Next-Gen Phone Has New Display, Battery, Snapdragon
News from Tom’s Hardware Guide:

LG’s next-gen smartphone will feature a new battery, a new touchscreen, and the Snapdragon S4 SoC.

LG Electronics sent along an interesting press release over the weekend in regards to its next-generation smartphone. Unlike other phone manufacturers which tap into the supply chain to acquire their components such as the display and battery, LG said it developed the new device in conjunction with its three “vertically-integrated” sister companies — LG Chem, LG Display and LG Innotek — which provided a new display and battery.

“Working closely with our affiliate companies allowed us a degree of control that very few smartphone makers have with their component partners,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “Our next smartphone will be a game changer for us because we were able to incorporated all the best-of-best technologies from our sister companies with one single objective in mind – to give customers the best user experience that we were collectively capable of.”

According to the report, LG Chem, Korea’s oldes…………… continues on Tom’s Hardware Guide

What does the Apple v. Samsung verdict mean to LG?
News from CNET:

Now that Samsung owes Apple more than $ 1B in patent infringements, what can LG do to set itself apart?

After a jury decided on Friday that Samsung owes Apple $ 1 billion in reparations due to patent infringements, many other OEMs who sport Google’s Android OS (which could be Apple’s real target) may be batting down the hatches.

Though it looks like, for now, Apple isn’t suing anyone else, it’s easy to understand why LG should pay close attention to this trial’s verdict and even closer attention to its fierce competitor, Samsung.

In addition to running Android, which Google is already trying to distance from the case<…………… continues on CNET

LG Posts Teaser for New Snapdragon Quad-core Powered Phone

Friday, August 24th, 2012

LG Posts Teaser for New Snapdragon Quad-core Powered Phone
News from Droid Life:

LG appears to be on the verge of releasing the most powerful smartphone on the planet. In a new teaser, they have confirmed that they are working on a phone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro, better known to most of us as the quad-core variant of the chip we are seeing in handsets today. This chipset sports an Adreno 320 GPU, one that should make all other mobile graphics processing units look silly. We have seen benchmarks of tablets (and phones?) with this processor inside and have been blown away.

What we want to know, is if a processor this powerful, is enough to get you to buy an LG phone? Will we see it at IFA next week, along with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2?

How qualified is the Apple-Samsung jury? We found out
News from CNET:

CNET dug through court transcripts and our own notes to learn how tech-savvy the jury is. It may surprise you.

Spoiler alert. While the jury’s verdict could help decide the fate of the iPhone and numerous Samsung handsets, the phone maker most preferred on the jury was LG.

The nine-person jury in the Apple v. Samsung case is deciding one of the tech sector’s most significant patent cases — and only one member has any experience with patents.

The verdict in the case could go a long way toward shaping the future of the smartphone and tablet markets, but of the nine jurors, only four own a smartphone. Three own tablets.

News from CNET:

An unnamed phone from LG “currently in production” will be powered by the Snapdragon S4 Pro.

Qualcomm announced today that a yet-to-be-unveiled LG quad-core phone will be powered by its own Snapdragon S4 Pro.

Though the company told CNET that it can’t comment on the device until LG makes its an official announcement, it did say that the handset is “currently in production” and will be sold in Korea in September. It will launch globally sometime afterward.

Despite how little there is to know about the handset, we’re excited nonetheless. And if it’s going to be anything like LG’s first quad-core phone, the LG 4X HD, it’ll be sure to please.

Leaked Docomo document reveals new LG, Sony and Samsung Nexus phones
News from NDTV:

We have been hearing about Google’s plan to launch multiple Nexus smartphones this year for quite some time and now a leaked document from Japanese telecom operator seems to have confirmed that.

According to a report in blog Android Noodles, Samsung, LG and Sony will be launching Nexus smartphones this year. NTT DoCoMo’s winter line-up has revealed the device named as Samsung Galaxy Nexus II, LG Optimus Nexus and Sony Xperia Nexus.

The names do not sound surprising as they represent each manufacturer’s Android device branding.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus II was also leaked a few days ago as GT-I9260, which is minor revision to the existing Galaxy Nexus. It will feature 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display, 1.5GHz dual core processor, 8MP rear camera, 1.9 MP front camera and 16GB internal memory with microSD card slot.

There is no word on the specifications of other two smartphone except the fact they will have NFC on-board.

The leaked line-up has also revealed few other phones as well such as Sony Xperia Walk (a Walkman branded Android phone from Sony), LG Optimus Bright II, LG Optimus Tab II, HTC J,…………… continues on NDTV

Leaked LG LS970 phone has quad-core Snapdragon S4 and 2GB RAM, coming Q4 this year
News from MobileSyrup.com:

Leaked LG LS970 phone has quad-core Snapdragon S4 and 2GB RAM, coming Q4 this year

A leaked spec sheet for an upcoming LG phone is, if true, a good indicator of what we can expect in the Android world by the end of the year. As quad-core + HSPA+ gives way to quad-core + LTE, the market also seems to be shifting to more RAM as a way to differentiate. At least, that’s what LG is doing.

The leaked LS970 looks to be packed with a quad-core Snapdragon S4 APQ8064 built on Qualcomm’s 28nm Krait architecture, and a separate MDM9615 LTE chip, similar to the non-integrated method used in the Snapdragon S3 series. The reason? Unlike the dual-core S4 chips which are…………… continues on MobileSyrup.com

Google Wallet Mobile Payment Portfolio Grows From Two Phones to Four
News from Wired News:

The third Google Wallet phone: Virgin Mobile’s LG Optimus Elite. Image: Virgin Mobile USA

By the end of the month, Google Wallet will be available on twice as many phones as before — the portfolio is growing from two to four.

Baby steps, right?

On Friday, LG announced that its Optimus Elite handset will hit Virgin Mobile USA on May 15, and feature compatibility with Wallet, Google’s mobile payments platform. Wallet ties into the Near Field Communication (NFC) chips found in a growing number of phones. To make a small retail purchase like a cup of coffee or bagel, users can wave their Wallet-enabled phone over a check-out scanner, rather than paying with a credit card or cash.

When it goes on sale, the Optimus Elite will be just the third Google Wallet-friendly handset released thus far, following 2010′s Samsung Nexus S and the Gal…………… continues on Wired News

[Rumor] LG LS970 Headed To Sprint With Quad-Core Snapdragon S4, 2GB Of RAM …
News from Android Police:

If you were to come up with your ideal phone, the specs would probably look like those rumored for the mysterious LG LS970 on Sprint. This phone will reportedly have the Qualcomm APQ8064 (Snapdragon S4) at its heart. This is a quad-core 28nm Krait chip with the next-generation Adreno 320 GPU. Since this is an “APQ” chip, that means a separate LTE data modem will be used, currently listed in the leaked profile as the MSM9615.

Also included in the leaked data is a listing for 2GB of RAM, which is twice as much as high-end devices are currently shipping with (and probably more than Android needs). The supposed screen is a little bizarre. We’re looking at a 4.67-inch 1280×768 panel, but those extra pixels could be reserved for on-screen buttons. The rear camera is called out as a whopping 13MP sensor.

This device seemingly has everything I could want in a phone, which immediately makes me skeptical. The tipster says this phone…………… continues on Android Police

Cellphone ‘digital wallets’ pushed
News from The Advocate:

Photo provided by LG MobilePariticipants in the wireless industry show in New Orleans check out LG mobile phones. One of the hot topics was the digital wallet, the idea of paying for goods and services through smartphones.

Cash, coins and credit cards are so Twentieth Century.

At least, that’s the opinion of the electronics manufacturers, phone companies, banks and credit card issuers that expect cellphones to be the main way consumers pay for purchases in the not-so-distant future.

The trouble is, that vision of tomorrow is somewhat blurry, as evidenced at the U.S. cellphone industry trade show held this week in New Orleans. There are a lot of ideas, but little agreement.

The stakes, however, are high.

“Eighty-five percent of the world’s transactions are still made with cash and checks. We have a wonderful opportunity to convert those,” said Gary Flood, MasterCard’s president of global products and solutions, in a keynote speech at the show.

One concept that gets a lot of attention is the “digital wallet” — a virtual repository for our credit card numbers, receipts, coupons. It’s not much different from a PayPal account, which can be linked to different cards. A lot of companies see the wallet as the key to influence in the world of mobile payments, especially if it sits on a cellp…………… continues on The Advocate
