LG G Flex vs LG G Flex 2
News from TechRadar:

The LG G Flex impressed in a number of ways, not least because it was the world’s first curved smartphone, but ultimately it felt more like an over-priced oddity than anything that was likely to catch on.

LG is obviously serious about curves though, because it’s back with the LG G Flex 2, a smaller yet more powerful and still very much curved phone. So just what has changed? And is the G Flex 2 enough of an improvement to have mainstream appeal?

Read on for a run-down of how these two handsets compare when it comes to their design, screen, power, camera, interface, battery and storage.

LG G Flex vs LG G Flex 2: Design

The LG G Flex and LG G Flex 2 have largely similar designs as you might expect. Both phones have a curved body and buttons on the back, while the front of both phones is almost bezel free at either side of the screen.

But there are some differences. For one thing the LG G Flex 2 is quite a lot smaller and lighter,…………… continues on TechRadar

LG G3 smart phone smokes Amazon Fire in Consumer Reports’ tests

LG G3 smart phone smokes Amazon Fire in Consumer Reports’ tests
News from ConsumerReports.org:

We’ve just completed our tests of Amazon’s first smart phone, the Fire, and LG’s latest flagship model, the G3. Both phones are outstanding in their own ways, with unique and compelling features that should dazzle tech fans. But their designs reflect radically different views on what a smart phone should be. As the headline implies, Consumer Reports testers determined that the G3’s approach gets much closer to the target.

Amazon Fire

The Fire is all things Amazon, heavily integrated with Amazon Prime, Apps, Kindle, and more. Several unique capabilities make it easy, and even fun, to spend money with the retail giant.

For example Firefly, an onboard app, scans objects or listens to songs, then finds them in Amazon’s immense retail and digital content so you can buy them. Another intriguing technology, Dynamic Perspective, can make certain flat images appear three-dimensional on the phone’s 4.7-inch display, allowing you to view them from different angles as you tilt the phone in various ways. You can also scroll up and down Web pages, summon app menu options, or view messages and other notifications by jerking or tilting the phone.

But battery life is much shorter than on many other phones from Samsung, LG, and others, including the G3. Also, the Fire’s unique and somewhat unintuit…………… continues on ConsumerReports.org

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: Review comparing Specs, Prices & Battery Life
News from StreetWise Tech:

Cellular phones of yesterday have been just great for sending plus obtaining calls and even generating along with acquiring incoming telephone calls. These days, the cell phones does things that were just fantasy to all of us over a 10 years before, and this will keep on in the future.

Display and Design

The Samsung Galaxy S5 upgraded the Galaxy S4′s design by a lot. Say farewell to the cheap plastic feel and hello to a new matte finish, which, while still plastic, provides a much better overall look. Add to that a removable back cover and the ability to insert an extended battery. Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has support for microSD cards of up to 128 GB, so storage space is a thing of the past. Display-wise, Samsung’s new display used in the Galaxy S5 is simply put one of the best on the market. The 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display comes with a full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a PPI of 432. In addition, multiple display modes (such as the battery-saving black and white mode or the Super Bright Mode that makes sunlight viewing easy) ensure that the Galaxy S5 truly shines when it comes to visual quality. The LG G2 unfortunately brings a glossy plastic cover that doesn’t look bad, but attracts fingerprints like no other phone. No microSD support is included, and the fact that you can’t install an extended battery is also a huge minus. That being s…………… continues on StreetWise Tech

LG G Flex curved smart phone bends but doesn’t break

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014

LG G Flex curved smart phone bends but doesn’t break
News from ConsumerReports.org:

Not many electronic devices make a claim for their physical flexibility. After all, smart phones, TVs, computers, and tablets are made from rigid plastic and glass, which are more likely to snap or shatter than bend forgivingly. Then along came LG, touting its G Flex as “the world’s first curved, flexible smart phone,” with this important caveat: “The flexibility of this product is limited. This phone may be bent flat up to 180 degrees for a limited period of time only. Do not bend inward or twist.” (See the screen grab from the LG site below.)

Why, we wondered, would anyone need a bendable phone?

The answer is pretty straightforward. It turns out that flexibility may help with durability. The arc of the G Flex acts like a leaf spring, absorbing energy when pressure is applied to the phone, such as when you lean or sit on the phone when it’s lying on a table. LG was initially pretty vague about just how flexible the G Flex is, but when we pressed company representatives for data, we were told that it had bee…………… continues on ConsumerReports.org

LG G3 specs leak points to integrated fingerprint scanner
News from TrustedReviews:

LG G3 leaks again with biometric sensor tipped

The upcoming LG G3 specs sheet has leaked again, with latest reports suggesting the future flagship phone will feature its own integrated fingerprint scanner.

Seemingly set to follow in the footsteps of the rival iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S5, the latest LG G3 leaks have seen the phone’s inbuilt biometric sensor tipped for inclusion alongside an improved camera and Full HD display.

Surfacing courtesy of a claimed user agent profile from the currently unconfirmed phone, the LG G3 leaks have offered an insight into both the phone’s hardware and software packages.

With the phone shown to pack pre-installed PayPal, McAfee Mobile Security and LG Account software, it has been claimed that an integrated fingerprint scanner could be on the cards. However, LG has yet to shed any official light on the claims and as such we must stress these reports be taken with a pinch of salt.

On a hardware front, the LG G3 will reportedly play host to a new 16-megapixel rear-mounted cam…………… continues on TrustedReviews

LG Bringing KnockCode to More LG Phones Via Future Firmware Update
News from Droid Life:

Ever since it was introduced with the LG G2, the KnockOn tap-to-wake software that LG patented has been a major focal point of its OEM software. LG even improved its own design by announcing KnockCode alongside the G Pro 2, which will launch later this year. Apparently, demand was so high for creating a personalized knocking pattern to unlock your device that LG is bringing it to more of their older devices.

According to a survey done by LG, over 50 percent of the participants listed KnockCode as their most anticipated feature of the G Pro 2. After hearing that kind of response, LG has announced plans for its LG G Flex and the G2 to receive KnockCode sometime in April.

No hard date has been set in stone and neither has the list of devices to receive this update. LG promises to keep us updated in “the weeks ahead” to give us more details of when exactly we can expect this firmware update to come through.

LG’s first smart light bulb flashes when you get a phone call
News from Engadget:

LG isn’t about to let household heavyweights like Philips corner the connected lighting space — it just unveiled the Smart Lamp, its first take on the concept. The 10W LED bulb gives Android and iOS users a familiar level of control over their illumination, including a light-based alarm clock and a security mode that pretends you’re at home. There are a couple of noteworthy tricks in this initial offering, however. The light connects through both Bluetooth and WiFi, letting it pull the sync-based stunts we’ve seen in a few other bulbs: it can flash when…………… continues on Engadget
