LG G4 to be ‘radically different,’ phone more powerful than the G series in …
News from 9 to 5 Google:

A couple reports out of Korea today highlight some of LG’s plans for the relatively near future, including a statement (via Korea Times) from the company’s mobile chief Cho Jun-ho suggesting that the upcoming LG G4 is going to be “radically different” than its predecessor. The device will reportedly feature a “metal-mixtured” body and sport the company’s LG UX 4.0, which Cho says will be announced sometime before the new phone.

Also, LG also reportedly has a completely new device series in the works (via Korea Herald), featuring more powerful specs than the current top-of-the-line G series…

As for the LG G4, it’s not just going to be aesthetically different as LG’s mobile head says that the company has interest in building some of its own internals for the device. Specifically, LG wants to no longer be dependent on Qualcomm, a leading provider of smartphone systems-on-a-chip, and has reportedly “spent millions of dollars to develop processors at its logic-chip research lab.”

News from Christian Post:

Google/Twitter/Image

After Google unveiled the latest version of the Android mobile operating system Lollipop in June 2014, smartphone and tablet users on Android have been asking if and when they will get an update on their phones.

The earliest to get the updates were the Nexus devices with HTC and Motorola sometime November 2014. Google is leaving it to the phone manufacturers to schedule their releases for their own devices and several reports have come out to try and consolidate information about Lollipop updates.

One such report is found in Digital Trends, and it tries to round up updated news, tidbits and rumors about Lollipop releases on the major smartphone brands.

It starts the round up with information about Samsung phones. According to the report, Galaxy S5 owners in the US started getting the updates starting early February, for those who are on the Verizon network, which should be completed by the end of February. T-Mobile S5 owners got theirs in mid-February. For S5 owners in Europe, they will be receiving their updates soon, the schedule being dependent on how fast the networks approve the new firmware. For Samsung phablet users of the Note 4 and…………… continues on Christian Post

LG Mobile hints at upcoming ‘new series’ that will feature an ‘unexpected …
News from PhoneDog:

Love surprises? Then you’ll be excited to hear that that’s exactly what LG has up it sleeve. The company recent took to the official LG Mobile Facebook page to post a teaser image that features a red bow and the declaration “New series will be unveiled.” The description of the image invites us to “see what surprise LG has in store” and teases that said surprise has “an unexpected distinction.”

There’s no mention on the page of exactly when LG’s surprise will be revealed, but with Mobile World Congress slated to kick off later this month, that show seems like as good a place as any for LG to show off something new. Exactly what that something is is still a mystery for now, though.

LG was one of the first OEMs to jump aboard the Windows Phone bandwagon, but their devices were lacklustre, went largely unsupported and the company never released a second generation running Mango.

LG Sells 10M+ Optimus L Series Phones Worldwide

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

LG Sells 10M+ Optimus L Series Phones Worldwide
News from International Business Times AU:

LG is in celebration mode following the South Korean firm’s announcement at the start of the week that over 10 million units of the Optimus L smartphone lines have reached global consumers since since the device was launched this year.

The Optimus L series is headlined by the 4.7-inch screen L9, the cream of the crop of a bunch that LG said caters to consumers on 50 key markets worldwide looking to own smartphones that are both “attractive and distinctly styled.”

The whole line – the Optimus L3, the Optimus L5 and the Optimus L7 – spans “timeless design with fine details that further differentiates LG’s mobile devices from the competition.”

Marching beyond the impressive mark, which may be modest to other gadget manufacturers, represent a milestone for LG that “demonstrates the importance of delivering smartphones with stylish design, comparative size of display and enhanced UX features,” LG Mobile Communications Company chief executive Park Jong-seok said in a statement.

Mr Park credited the success to LG’s core design philosophy, which he stressed is governed by five aesthetic elements: “Modern Square Style for a comfortable grip, Floating Mass Technology for a slimmer look, Seamless Layout for a more intuitive arrangement of keys, Harmonized Design Contrast utilizing metallic accents and Sensuous Slim Shape that dr…………… continues on International Business Times AU

South Korea’s LG Display, one of the world’s top flat-screen TV makers, said Thursday it had filed a patent infringement suit against Samsung Electronics over the use of advanced displays. LG Display, a sister firm of LG Electronics, accused Samsung Electronics and Samsung Display of

infringing seven of its patents on organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology.

The company claimed that five of Samsung’s products, including its global hit Galaxy S-series smartphones and tablet computer Galaxy Tab 7.7, infringed its patents.

“This lawsuit has been filed both to enforce LG Display’s intellectual property rights and promote fair competition,” it said in a statement.

LG Display said it would seek an unspecified amount of damages and a permanent injunction against the sale of infringing devices.

There was no immediate comment from Samsung, which in July accused LG Display employees of stealing its OLED technology.

Samsung and LG, respectively the world’s largest and second largest flat-screen TV makers, each claim their technology offers more vivid images and wider viewing angles.

The suit comes as Samsung is embroiled in a long-running pate…………… continues on Hindustan Times

News from SlashGear:

LG has a pair of new LED IPS displays on offer, the IPS7 Series, promising high-quality graphics using technology borrowed from the company’s big-screen TV range, though scaled to suit the average desk. The 27-inch LG IPS277L and its smaller 23-inch IPS237L sibling each eschew the mainstream TN panels common on external displays, as well as throwing in MHL-HDMI ports for easier connectivity with smartphones and tablets.

The LCDs themselves are dressed in skinny bezels, with the edges just 1.2mm thick; the monitors as a whole are 14.1mm deep, and sit on trim metallic stands. Controls are all discrete capacitive to…………… continues on SlashGear

Nokia May Launch Windows Phone 8 Ahead of Competitors
News from Technorati:

Author: Jesse Bauer
Published: July 20, 2012 at 4:45 pm

Nokia may be getting an exclusive early launch of the next mobile operating system from Microsoft. ahead of other Windows Phone 7 manufacturers like Samsung, HTC and LG. Stephen Elop, Nokia CEO, made mention of this in a statement to the NY Times. He mentioned that Windows Phone 8 would be “Launched in September”, which has a good head start on the tentative launch date at the beginning of November 2012.

It should be made clear that Elop didn’t specifically state that Nokia would be launching WP8 devices in September prior to HTC, Samsung or LG devices, but with Microsoft mentioning it’s launch dates for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 near the end of October, one has to wonder why Elop would state to the NY Times that we would see it in September. Clearly, he knows something that we don’t.

After Nokia released its financials this week of an operating loss of over $ 1 Billion, a turnaround is needed. Having a solid month to sell Nokia WP8 devices on the market ahead of a new iPhone launch would be the right thing to d…………… continues on Technorati

Android Explainer Series: Best LG Android Phones and Devices
News from Android Apps Appolicious:

Need a reasonably priced Android phone that just works? Check out the LG Optimus line. LG jumped on board Android from the beginning and has been leveraging the mid-to-high range smart phone market segment effectively ever since.

Just like Android was designed to do, LG delivers one Android-based phone after another, very quickly, with just slight modifications to the case, buttons, and built-in hardware.

But mid-range isn’t all LG does. In 2011, LG has announced three new exciting Android products – the super thin LG B, the speedy LG Optimus 2X, and the first 3D Android phone appropriately called the Optimus 3D. They’ve even announced their entry into the tablet arena – the Optimus Pad.

Regarding apps, LG skins the OS to brand them for carriers, but other than that, does little to alter the standard user interface supplied by Google. So, for apps, you’ll be shopping the regular Android Market.I’ll explain everything you need to know about the devices and apps b…………… continues on Android Apps Appolicious
