Report: Verizon to sell LG’s 5-inch phone as the LG Intuition

Report: Verizon to sell LG’s 5-inch phone as the LG Intuition
News from GigaOM:

After selling 500,000 units of its Optimus Vu, LG is reportedly partnering with Verizon to bring the 5-inch smartphone to the U.S. The timing is odd, as is the phone’s 4 : 3 aspect ratio, given the success of the Galaxy Note and its coming soon successor.

After passing up on Samsung’s 5.3-inch Galaxy Note, Verizon reportedly plans to sell LG’s 5-inch Optimus Vu smartphone. Droid Life posted a screen shot that shows the handset will cost $ 199.99 with contract, or $ 549.99 without, and it will be named the LG Intuition. As with all other smartphones that Verizon now releases, the Android-powered Intuition will support the operator’s 4G LTE network.

The leaked information follows just two days after LG announced the phone would be sold internationally. The handset maker launched the device in Korea, where it has sold 500,000 units. It’s likely that LG will have to use two different chip suppliers for the Vu based on my news report earlier this week:

Next month, consumers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America can purchase the inte…………… continues on GigaOM

Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core in upcoming LG phones
News from Android Community:

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen a few leaks regarding an upcoming smartphone from the folks at LG that is rather powerful. Blasting through benchmarks and sounding quite impressive. Then even more details leaked regarding the LG Optimus G smartphone. We now can confirm that Qualcomm‘s extremely fast and efficient new quad-core will be powering the device.

The current processor powering all the most popular smartphones is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, that manages to hold its own rather well against current quad-cores. We got our first look at the new S4 Pro quad-core last month but we now know it is coming, and coming soon.

Qualcomm has confirmed they’ve partnered with LG and have been collaborating on releasing a powerful quad-core 4G LTE device they are calling a “global device.” This will support full 3G and 4G LTE with what they call 3G/LTE multi-mode. So the tradeoff between 3G and 4G LTE will be seamless — something we haven’t seen in the past.

LG Aims to Sell 80M Phones, 35M Smartphones and 8M LTE Smartphones This Year
News from TechnoBuffalo:

LG has struggled to gain smartphone momentum in previous quarters, but this year the company hopes to get the ship back on course. Speaking to the Korea Times recently, LG’s mobile head Park Jong-seok said LG hopes to drastically increase phone sales in 2012. “This year, we are aiming to sell 80 million handsets including 35 million smartphones,” Jong-seok said. “But more importantly, LG aims to sell 8 million LTE smartphones.” LG hopes its brand new quad-core Optimus 4X HD makes a big splash with consumers, too. “I think LTE, high-definition and quad-core will be the key words this year,” Jong-seok added. “With fine-tuned technology and stra…………… continues on TechnoBuffalo

News from Mobile Burn:

LG has announced its intent to option $ 945 million worth of stock in order to supply funds to its flailing smartphone division. As a result, LG’s stock value dropped 14 percent, based on shareholder’s concerns that the optioning would dilute their shares’ value.

LG’s mobile phone division has not done well for a good amount of time, as it has posted losses for six consecutive quarters. The Korean company faces stiff competition from its hometown rival Samsung, as well as other smartphone makers like Apple and HTC. LG has lost nearly 1 trillion KRW (US$ 887million) in its handset division over the last six quarters.

The Hard Sell: LG 3D Optimus Phone

The Hard Sell: LG 3D Optimus Phone
News from The Guardian:
Candice Carty-Williams

LG Optimus 3D

Bloody hell. I need a lie down. An advert hasn’t been this fast-paced since that one for the Paco Rabanne fragrance. Remember? The frighteningly dizzy, panic-inducing one with the suitably handsome model clicking his fingers and having every wish granted as a result? That was 32 seconds long. This one, for the LG 3D Optimus phone, utilises half that time to run us through shiny new technology by way of an intolerable blast of techno-babble. How much useful information can be squeezed into 16 seconds, given that this promised new and innovative handset will surely be too complicated for those of us who haven’t even been able to progress to the Blackberry Pearl?

Let’s see what we can learn. That having this new 3D phone will make you suave and savvy? Yes. That you, as the owner, will probably live…………… continues on The Guardian
