LG may be back as the second top phone manufacturer in the US
News from GSMArena.com:

Yup, after years of poor performance in the mobile phone sector, LG may actually be back on track. We last heard that they’ve sold some 55 million handsets in 2012, even though their Optimus G was not doing terribly well, selling only 1 million units during the first 4 months of its availability.

But hey, perhaps due to the incredible popularity of the competitively priced and Google-sanctioned LG Nexus 4 (pictured left), LG managed to outgrow Apple’s 13% US market share.

According to Counterpoint Research, LG actually scored a market share of 14% in the US. Now how’s that for a comeback? We are yet to see where this would take them in the quarter that lies ahead.

Of course, we would advise anyone at LG to wait for a second confirmation from another market research agency before popping up that champagne.

On a side note, Samsung is still the market leader in the US with a 33% market share in the same period.

Running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the Pro model would include 2GB of memory, 32GB of storage and support for long-term evolution (LTE). Also along for the ride would be a 2.4-megapixel camera in front, and a 13-megapixel camera on the back.

Many of those specs would be improvements over those found in the Optimus G, though certain variants of the current model already include some of those features.

News from The Droid Guy:

We have been listening to many rumors regarding LG’s intent to create a new flagship phone. The new smartphone was said to be a next gen quad core smartphone, and since Qualcomm disclosed the fact that they were indeed supplying Snapdragon S4 Pro processors to LG, there’s no doubt as to LG is surely cooking something in their labs, and now the South Korean smartphone manufacturer is giving a hint to its fans by launching a teaser site.

The teaser site contains a video that explains the new flagship smartphone and its second generation quad core processor. The name has also been changed from ‘D1L’ and will be a ’2nd gen’ quad core device, not like the 4X HD which made a European launch in June. The LG X3, LG’s Second Quad-Core Phone…Will It Come To T-Mobile?

The LG X3, LG’s Second Quad-Core Phone…Will It Come To T-Mobile?
News from TmoNews:

Chalk this rumor up firmly in the “I have no idea if it will come true, but I absolutely hope it does” category as the boys from PocketNow have discovered what is believed to be LG’s second quad-core handset. Running a Tegra 3 chipset, 4.7″ 1280×720 display, the X3 is said to have a sub nine-millimeter profile. The rear camera is said to be the 8 megapixel variety with the front facing camera coming in at 1.3 megapixels. The X3 is expected to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for you right out of the box utilizing physical capacitive buttons and not touchscreen buttons ala the Galaxy Nexus.

So where is the T-Mobile link? Well, we agree with the boys from PocketNow and AndroidandMe and suspect this might be the next in T-Mobile’s “G” series. Remember the G-Infinity from the leaked roadmap discovered in the Summer of 2011? Yeah, we’re still waiting to see what that device that is and given the X3′s HSPA+ 21Mbps cabaility, it’s possible we’re looking at it, or the “G3x.”…………… continues on TmoNews

LG Spectrum – the Second Revolution is Coming to Verizon

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

LG Spectrum – the Second Revolution is Coming to Verizon
News from Int’l Business Times:

The LG Revolution was one of the first smartphones to carry an LTE radio on Verizon’s network, but otherwise it was a pretty standard midrange device that was released to keep people busy this past summer. The most attractive thing about it was the price, which was lower than any other LTE handsets, although you had to pay for that in performance.

And now, it seems that the network carrier will be getting the successor to the Revolution – the LG Spectrum, aka Revolution 2, is coming to Verizon at the beginning of 2012, with a new set of specs, which get it up to date with the competition.

There are some leaked shots of the device floating around the Web, and as you can see from them, the design of the device doesn’t seem to have changed much – the changes are mostly superficial, and it seems that th…………… continues on Int’l Business Times
