Samsung building a foldable phone, LG on transparent screens
News from GSMArena.com:

Samsung is releasing the occasional flip smartphone, but those are niche products with limited availability and appeal. A Samsung official revealed that the company has a plant to leverage its bendable display technology to create foldable phones.

The official did not provide any more info though if a foldable, flip phone like form factor can be used to provide a large screen in a compact body. While that may sound futuristic, we may see it as early as next year.

The new flexible screen tech has four phases: curved, bent, foldable and rollable. The first two are already a reality, the third one is coming soon while the last one holds promise of displays that are stored like roller blinds.

LG Display has its flexible screens too, though its focus is elsewhere – the company is experimenting with transparent displays. Those will enable augmented reality displays without the need for Google Glass style wearables.

LG already has a promotional prototype ready, however, “it will take some time” until the factories are ready for mass production. The tech is already is some products like luxury cars (for heads-up displays) and refrigerators (to let you see what’s inside while showing ads too).

Anyway, there’s one transparent display phone that we can think of, the

A higher-end LG G4 Note will launch with a metal body, not the LG G4 [RUMOR]
News from Phandroid.com:

It was a little over 2 weeks ago we got a good look at the LG G4 in a few alleged press shots of the device. Like a slightly smaller version of the LG G Flex 2, the phone featured a curved LED display while keeping to LG’s current design language. One of the more interesting parts about rumors of the device is that it would it would feature a metal body — a first for LG on their flagship line. We’re not talking about that faux metal finish of the LG G3 either.

It was an interesting prospect and while plastic definitely has its merits, consumers really seem to have taken a liking to the premium fe…………… continues on Phandroid.com

Exclusive: Leaked LG G3 screens show fresh UI, confirm ‘concierge’ service …
News from Digital Trends:

A new, modern UI for LG’s upcoming G3 has been revealed in three new screenshots, obtained by Digital Trends from a trusted industry source. The screens show flatter and brighter icons, a revamped weather widget with built-in suggestions, a much cleaner looking notifications screen, and circular icons (a new trend).

Notably, the screenshots came to us with a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution, which is near confirmation that the G3 will have a stunning 1440p resolution screen. LG will be the first major smartphone vendor to push a higher screen resolution in more than a year.

LG DoublePlay Phone Touts Two Screens for Multitasking Fiends
News from Wired News:

We 21st century humans are busy creatures. Bombarded by a constant stream of data flowing into our smartphones, we struggle to respond to text messages, tweets and e-mails in a timely fashion. But LG’s latest smartphone, exclusive to T-Mobile, may provide a solution.

Dubbed the DoublePlay, the handset boasts a 3.5-inch touchscreen display for viewing content, and a slide-out qwerty keyboard that should appeal to the dwindling numbers of BlackBerry faithfuls among us. And, in a strange twist of industrial design, the DoublePlay also comes with another 2-inch touchscreen that splits the keyboard in twain, and serves as a second app dock for fast task-switching.

At first glance, the second screen seems like sheer novelty. T-Mobile pitches the dubious idea that the additional screen is perfect for the world of “fast-paced social networking.” I can’t say I’ve ever been struc…………… continues on Wired News

LG DoublePlay Android Phone Sports Dual Screens

LG DoublePlay Android Phone Sports Dual Screens
News from eWeek:

People might believe dual-screen phones are novelties, but apparently some folks want them enough to prompt Android OEMs to keep making them.

T-Mobile Oct. 17 said it will begin selling the Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based LG DoublePlay smartphone this holiday season, offering a handset with a 3.5-inch main display, under which sits a 2-inch sub-display.

Each screen can work together to provide larger screen real estate for users, or separately to allow users to multitask, including checking email on one screen and playing Angry Birds or other games on the other.

In that regard, the DoublePlay’s dual screens recall Sprint’s Kyocera Echo. That Gingerbread  phone that sports two 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreens (capable of operating independently or together.
