LG said to make new Google Nexus phone for October unveiling
News from St. Augustine Record:

SEOUL, South Korea — LG Electronics Inc. is developing a Nexus smartphone for Google Inc., becoming the third manufacturer to build phones for the U.S. company, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

The device, to be shown this month, is based on LG’s Optimus G model, said the person, who declined to be identified because the project isn’t public.

For LG, its first Nexus project would deepen a partnership with Google as the Seoul-based company tries to compete with Samsung Electronics Co. Google has previously developed phones with Samsung and HTC Corp. to help maintain the dominance of its mobile operating system against Apple’s iPhone.

Jinny Lee, a Seoul-based spokeswoman for LG, and Shari Yoder Doherty, a spokeswoman for Google, declined to comment.

LG’s Optimus G, which went on sale in South Korea last month, has a 4.7-inch screen and runs on a processor made by Qualcomm Inc. for fourth-generation Long Term Evolution, or LTE, networks offering faster Internet connections.

Technology blogs, including BGR, have posted what they say are leaked photos of the new Nexus phone with LG’s logo.

LG’s mobile-phone division had an operating loss of 56.7 billion won ($ 51 million) in the second quarter, compared with Samsung’s operating profit of 4.19 trillion won at its telecommunications business. LG was No. 5 in global h…………… continues on St. Augustine Record

Why is LG such a failure in the mobile phone business and can they turn things …
News from Unwired View:

LG is a company that I love to beat up, not because they don’t have any talented engineers, but because they consistently fail to make full use of resources that they have. The company’s business strategy, as far as I and the rest of the world can tell, is to clone everything Samsung makes as quickly as humanly possible and hope for the best. The most recent example of this type of behavior is the LG Vu, a 5 inch 4:3 smartphone/tablet hybrid with a stylus that was clearly inspired by the Galaxy Note.

Forgetting about specific phone models for a second, let’s talk about some hard data. At the end of the first quarter of 2012, LG lost their position as the fourth largest handset maker to…………… continues on Unwired View

LG’s Telecom Unit Said to Seek to Borrow About $ 200 Million
News from Bloomberg:

LG Uplus Corp. (032640), formerly known as LG Telecom, may seek a loan for about $ 200 million, according to four people familiar with the matter.

The South Korean telecommunications and mobile phone operator, controlled by LG Group, has held discussions with banks for a two to three-year facility, said three of the people, who asked not to be identified because the details are private. The facility may be a loan-style floating rate note, a type of offshore loan typically arranged for Korean borrowers, they said.

Kim Sung Hyun, vice president and head of financing, didn’t deny discussions with banks had taken place when contacted by mobile phone at his office in Seoul. However he said the company had no need for U.S…………… continues on Bloomberg
