Nexus 5 2015 release date in October? LG’s phone gets rumor mills going
News from ChristianToday:

Google/Nexus

The Nexus 5, which will reportedly share its name with this year’s latest Google phone.

Google follows a trend of releasing a new phone each year. This time, it’s the Google/ LG Nexus 5 that’s being put on the spotlight.

The Google phone of 2015, according to PC Advisor UK, is just right around the corner. However, it’s not exactly sure if what is dubbed as the Nexus 5 2015 is really a Nexus 5 — the name has aready been used, along with Nexus 4, 6, and 7. Nevertheless, there are plenty of speculations on what the upcoming device will have to offer.

The PC Advisor article reports that both LG and Huawei are each doing a version of the device, but somehow, it appears that the LG-Nexus will have 5.2-inch HD P-OLED screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM with memory expandable up to 64 GB, front-facing speakers, and a 13- and 4-megapixel camera combo. Meanwhile, the Huawei-made Nexus is said to have a 5.7-inch WQHD AMOLED screen, a metal unibody chassis, a 21-megapixel rear camera, and wireless charging support.

Rumor: LG’s has a second Nuclun chip; it’s faster than the Exynos 7420 SoC …
News from Phone Arena:

Aiming to get to the level of Samsung, Apple, and Huawei, LG has also been making its baby steps on the chipset scene, aiming to design its own smartphone chipset. Its NUCLUN chip barely made it outside South Korea as it was allegedly overheating; subsequently, rumors about another LG-made chipset surfaced, claiming that LG is aiming at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810.

A new rumor just hit us, claiming that LG is preparing a second generation of the NUCLUN chipset. This time around, the rumor mill has it that the NUCLUN 2 will be gunning for Samsung’s top-tier Exynos 7420 chipset, which can be found on the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, and Note5 (it’s also rumored that the high-end

Rumor says LG may target the Note 4 with new G4 flagship phone
News from Digital Trends:

The LG G3 will almost certainly be replaced by the LG G4 at some point during 2015, and it’ll have to be something very special if it’s to be worthy of the name. While the G4 is unlikely to break cover officially until later on in 2015, rumors of its possible specifications are already beginning to gather.

Here’s what we think we know about the LG G4, all in one handy guide.

A change in strategy?

According to a report from China in late December, LG may include a stylus with the G4, and turn it into a competitor of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The rumor is based on a selection of trademarks recently registered by LG, including the G Scrawl, and an updated version of the G Pen. Currently, the LG G3’s closest rival is the Galaxy S5.

LG has already produced a spin-off version of the G3 with a stylus, unsurprisingly called the G3 Stylus, and has included a pen with older devices such as the G Pro Lite. Samsung has made the Note’s pen — called the S Pen — a major fe…………… continues on Digital Trends

Mysterious device shows LG may be plotting Windows Phone revival
News from Digital Trends:

LG may be in the process of building a new smartphone running Windows Phone. The news comes from AdDuplex’s latest market research, where an LG phone popped up in its breakdown of which devices are being used to view adverts. The device wears the model number LGVW820, which interestingly links it to another LG phone, the D820, better known as the Nexus 5.

Sadly, if AdDuplex’s data is correct, the Windows Phone device isn’t a reworking of the excellent Android phone. The only specs available are related to the screen, which apparently measures 4.7-inches and has a 480 x 854 pixel resolution. That puts the VW820 firmly in the mid-range, and up against the Lumia 535.

LG To Place Windows Phone Orders Soon [Rumor]

LG To Place Windows Phone Orders Soon [Rumor]
News from Ubergizmo:

LG is probably more well-known for their lineup of Android smartphones, and despite Microsoft having listed LG as one of their manufacturing partners for Windows Phone devices, we haven’t really seen much from the South Korean company yet. However that may soon change, according to a report from DigiTimes.

According to the publication, LG is expected to resume their cooperation with low-cost ODMs like Arima Communications. The company specializes in low-cost entry-level 3G devices, and LG is expected to place an order from them for about 2 million such phones.

The initial batch does not appear to be Windows Phone related, but DigiTime…………… continues on Ubergizmo

The new display is set to go into mass production and features extremely thin bezels, and the company has managed to develop the display to have the same brightness as its FHD screen. [Deal Alert] LG G Flex Down To $ 99 On-Contract With A New Line On AT&T Or …
News from Android Police:

I think we can all agree that AT&T’s $ 300 on-contract price for the LG G Flex is unacceptable. Sprint’s $ 250 asking price is also too high, though not as obscene. If you’re looking for a curved phone, you can get the G Flex for a mere $ 99.99 on-contract with either carrier through Amazon.

The G Flex is still a $ 600 phone without a contract, but you can only pay so much of a premium for style. If the contract doesn’t bother you, it’s just a relative pittance on Sprint or AT&T. Keep in mind that’s the price for…………… continues on Android Police

Rumor: LG hopes to catch up to Apple with fingerprint sensor in next-gen …
News from Apple Insider:

LG Electronics is reportedly testing a prototype version of the next generation of its flagship G-series smartphones that will allegedly include a swipe-based fingerprint sensor, countering the Touch ID capability of Apple’s iPhone 5s.

The so-called “G3″ from LG is said to currently be in testing, according to a report published this week by The Korea Herald. The next-generation Android handset is reportedly expected to debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, scheduled for February of 2014.

However, unlike Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded in the iPhone 5s home button, which allows a user to simply place their finger on the scanner, LG’s method “would likely come as a swipe fingerprint sensor,” the report said. That would suggest that LG has been unable to replicate the patented, unique

LG G2 starts getting Android 4.4 Kitkat
News from AndroidPIT.com:

Earlier this month, LG announced on its Korean sites that owners of the LG G2 in South Korea would be getting Android 4.4 Kitkat sometime this month. It seems as if that some time is now because the new operating system from Google is being sent over the air to owners of the G2 in South Korea. One report coming out of South Korea says that the carrier KT is sending the update out sequentially, although it did not mention if this was being done from purchase date, cell phone model number or some other piece of data. The Kitkat update comes at about 637 megabytes.

Owners of the phone in the Great White North are expected to have the update at some point during the first quarter of the coming year.

The handset is one of the most powerful ones out this year and is right up there in terms of performance with the HTC One, the Nexus 5, and the Samsung Galaxy S4. There is also some speculation that a mini version of the phon…………… continues on AndroidPIT.com

Rumor: LG’s 5.5 inch 1080p flagship to hit the market next month?
News from Android Authority:

HTC may have been the first company to launch a 1080p smartphone, but devices from other handset vendors are not that far behind. According to a report in the Korean publication ETNews, LG will announce a 5.5 inch 1080p flagship phone at Mobile World Congress next month. We know what you’re thinking, big deal, when is it actually going to land on store shelves? The report suggests that’s going to happen right after the phone is unveiled. We can think of only one other company who announced devices and then ships them just a handful of days later: Apple.

The story also says Pantech will launch a phone using the same LG manufactured 5.5 inch 1080p panel, but knowing how Pantech operates, we’re just going to call it now and say that handset will never launch outside of South Korea.

Now we can’t stress this enough, 1080p screens are going to be the highlight feature of numerous devices due to be announced during the next 60 days. Huawei

LG Nexus 4 a No Show in Google Play Store and Still Expensive on Retailers
News from International Business Times AU:

LG Nexus 4 still has an expensive price tag on third party retailers and resellers due to its absence in Google Play Store.

The price of the LG Nexus 4 is still high since the device is nowhere to be found in Google Play Store and shipment is delayed.

On eBay, a re-seller offers the 16GB Nexus 4 for $ 550 each which is more than $ 200 more expensive than the suggested retail price set by Google. Also worth noting is the 8GB variant being sold by one eBay top-seller with a price tag of $ 450, more than roughly $ 200 costlier than Google’s $ 299 8GB Nexus 4.

At Amazon, the numbers are higher as they allow shipping to other countries. The 16GB LG Nexus 4 retails for $ 575 each and the 8GB variant is priced $ 450 on average. For comparison, popular online smartphone retail stores are selling the unlocked handset for $ 600 for the 16GB and $ 550 for the “cheaper” 8GB variant.

Google is currently struggling to meet demand for its recently-announced Nexus 4 smartphone. Manufactured by LG, the device’s low price means it has seen extremely high demand, and Google has had issues keeping the phone in stock.

The Google-LG Nexus 4 boasts a 4.7 inch screen display with 1280×768 resolution, 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, 8 MP camera and 2100 mAh battery.

The new Google-LG smartphone will run with the new continues on International Business Times AU

Rumor: LG to Introduce 5.5-inch 1080p Phone, Edge-to-Edge Design, and 7 …
News from Droid Life:

According to a report out of GSMArena, LG has some major things planned for CES, next week. In the past year, CES took a back seat in the mobile world to other  conferences like MWC or to companies deciding to hold their own solo press events. But if this rumor becomes a reality, LG may steal the show on a mobile front, as the rest of the big dogs like Motorola, Samsung, and HTC have yet to hint at much of a smartphone presence for this year’s show.

Beyond the new Google TV products that LG has been teasing, this report suggests that we may also see a 4.7″ edge-to-edge phone with a bezel that measures in around 1mm. Up until this point, Motorola and its RAZR M have led the edge-to-edge phone battle, but it was only a matter of time before someone else stepped into the arena.

Along with this new phone, this rumor suggests that LG will introd…………… continues on Droid Life

Rumor: Next Nexus Phone Coming Within 30 Days, Maybe Android 4.2 as Well
News from Droid Life:

You may not realize this, but it was just last year on October 18 that Google and Samsung took to the stage to reveal the Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Today, is October 1. So where are all of the rumors surrounding the next Nexus device? By this time in 2011, we knew that the Galaxy Nexus was going to be called the Galaxy Nexus and also that Android 4.0 was ICS and that they would arrive together. This year seems to be completely different, though. In fact, we know absolutely nothing about the next Nexus phone, if or when it will arrive, and who is manufacturing it. All we have are a couple of rumors to go on, one of which is new and paints a 30-day window in to the picture. According to our friends over at Android and Me, who spoke with numerous industry sources of theirs, the next Nexus has “already leaked” on some blogs and will be unveiled within the “next 30 days.” So which phone is it?

Are we talking about the rumor that LG will create the

Review: LG Optimus L5
News from PCWorld.co.nz:

LG Optimus L5

RRP incl GST: $ 399
Contact: lge.co.nz

AT A GLANCE

  • 4-inch screen
  • 800MHz processor
  • But it’s slow anyway

Looks good, but performs like a turtle on top of another, sleeping turtle.

The LG Optimus L5 is the perfect Android phone for someone who wants style on a budget. Unfortunately, it hasn’t got much else going for it.

The body of the Optimus L5 doesn’t look cheap – actually, it kind of looks like a Samsung Galaxy S, with its rectangular button in the middle. The front and sides of the device are glass and plastic painted to look like metal, and it has a plastic cover on the back that has been painted in such a way that it’s kind of glossy and doesn’t look cheap. Until you turn the screen on, you might think that the L5 was a far more expensive phone.

LG have clearly gone for style over substance, because the 4-inch display seems nice on the surface, but it’s very low resultion for its size at 320 by 480 pixels. The colours are a little washed out, especially reds and pinks. The text smoothing could also be improved, as you’ll suffer a bit of…………… continues on PCWorld.co.nz

[Rumor] LG LS970 Headed To Sprint With Quad-Core Snapdragon S4, 2GB Of RAM …
News from Android Police:

If you were to come up with your ideal phone, the specs would probably look like those rumored for the mysterious LG LS970 on Sprint. This phone will reportedly have the Qualcomm APQ8064 (Snapdragon S4) at its heart. This is a quad-core 28nm Krait chip with the next-generation Adreno 320 GPU. Since this is an “APQ” chip, that means a separate LTE data modem will be used, currently listed in the leaked profile as the MSM9615.

Also included in the leaked data is a listing for 2GB of RAM, which is twice as much as high-end devices are currently shipping with (and probably more than Android needs). The supposed screen is a little bizarre. We’re looking at a 4.67-inch 1280×768 panel, but those extra pixels could be reserved for on-screen buttons. The rear camera is called out as a whopping 13MP sensor.

This device seemingly has everything I could want in a phone, which immediately makes me skeptical. The tipster says this phone…………… continues on Android Police

Cellphone ‘digital wallets’ pushed
News from The Advocate:

Photo provided by LG MobilePariticipants in the wireless industry show in New Orleans check out LG mobile phones. One of the hot topics was the digital wallet, the idea of paying for goods and services through smartphones.

Cash, coins and credit cards are so Twentieth Century.

At least, that’s the opinion of the electronics manufacturers, phone companies, banks and credit card issuers that expect cellphones to be the main way consumers pay for purchases in the not-so-distant future.

The trouble is, that vision of tomorrow is somewhat blurry, as evidenced at the U.S. cellphone industry trade show held this week in New Orleans. There are a lot of ideas, but little agreement.

The stakes, however, are high.

“Eighty-five percent of the world’s transactions are still made with cash and checks. We have a wonderful opportunity to convert those,” said Gary Flood, MasterCard’s president of global products and solutions, in a keynote speech at the show.

One concept that gets a lot of attention is the “digital wallet” — a virtual repository for our credit card numbers, receipts, coupons. It’s not much different from a PayPal account, which can be linked to different cards. A lot of companies see the wallet as the key to influence in the world of mobile payments, especially if it sits on a cellp…………… continues on The Advocate

LG Rumor Reflex (Sprint)

LG Rumor Reflex (Sprint)
News from PC Magazine:

Two years ago, the LG Rumor Touch (4 stars) grabbed our Editors’ Choice for feature phones on Sprint. The free, eco-friendly LG Rumor Reflex is a decent follow up, but it’s about a year and a half too late. The Rumor Reflex has a comfortable, roomy keyboard, making it a good choice if you’re a big-time texter. But poor screen-viewing angles, a lackluster camera, limited video support, and a drab user interface make it hard to recommend for almost everyone else.

Design and Call Quality
The Rumor Reflex measures 4.2 by 2.1 by 0.6 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.7 ounces. It’s made entirely of glossy plastic, with a textured, web-like pattern on the back panel. It comes in either white or gray, but if it was blue and red you’d think it was Spiderman themed. The 3-inch, 400-by-200-pixel capacitive touch LCD is fast and responsive, but extremely limited viewing angles means there’s only a 15-degree window in which you can see it properly.
