Android this week: Amazon phone soon; LG G Watch priced; Galaxy S5 reviewed
News from GigaOM:

When you think of Android, you probably don’t think of Amazon. You should. Amazon has slowly built up a product line off of the open Android software, starting first with Kindle Fire tablets and more recently with its Fire TV set-top box. The third pillar of “fire” is shaping up to be Amazon’s smartphone with an expected June announcement.

There’s no official name for the handset yet — I like the Fire Fone, but that’s just me — which has long been rumored. Sources told the Wall Street Journal this week that Amazon’s phone will go on sale three months after its introduction, meaning a September launch month. Few details have leaked, save for the recurring rumor of multiple eye- and head-tracking cameras in the phone and a glasses-free 3-D screen. The former makes more sense to me than the latter as Amazon can better learn where consumers are looking when browsing products on Amazon’s website.

Specs for possible new flagship phone from LG leak
News from DigitalJournal.com:

Credible specifications for what appears to be a new flagship phone from South Korean manufacturer LG have leaked online.

Details for a device named the LG LS990 have been found by myLGphones.com who found a profile for the device on the website of US carrier Sprint although some details differ from those published by respected leaker @evleaks on Twitter last month as it was said that the phone’s model number would be D850.

Either way, the specifications match that of a modern high-end flagship device which will most likely be released as the LG G3, the successor to last years G2. It boasts a qHD resolution of 2560x1440px on a 5.5″ display giving the device a pixel density…………… continues on DigitalJournal.com

Beauty and brains: the LG Optimus G reviewed
News from Ars Technica:

Being an Android user is a tricky thing. We have a plethora of handset options and operating system versions available to us, which is both a strength and a weakness. As trade shows happen and announcements are made, it becomes annoyingly difficult to choose the best handset without the fear that it might be rendered obsolete by carrier negligence or a spontaneous new phone launch.

The LG Optimus G is representative of this problem. On the inside, it’s everything we’ve dreamed of in an Android handset. It’s supremely fast, responsive, easy to use, and beautiful to look at. At the same time, Google is preparing to launch the Nexus 4 phone, which is also made by LG… and contains the same innards as the Optimus G. Preliminary benchmarks have shown it delivering similar performance numbers to its counterpart. To add insult to injury, the Nexus comes with a stock version of Android 4.2 without carrier bloatware or manufacturer UI skins—a major selling point for Android purists and  those who want to receive timely OS updates.

So, what’s the point? Why even bother with the Optimus G at all if there’s a better version of it on the horizon? This is still a crucial handset for LG, because while it does well with handsets in

Google LG Nexus 4 Review: Superb Device For The Price, But Missing LTE

This phone is manufactured by LG, and surprisingly, it’s not Samsung this time. This left many people wondering why Google had shift from Samsung to LG.

LG Optimus LTE P936 Reviewed Ahead of Official Announcement
News from Social Barrel:

LG has yet to announce officially its upcoming Optimus LTE P936 handset, but GSM Dome was already able to release its first preview of what would be the latest addition to the growing Optimus LTE line of 4G-enabled LG smartphones.

The South Korean phone maker is set to offer the LG Optimus LTE P936 with similar features to Korea-bound LG Optimus LTE SU640 when it comes to design and specifications.

Interested buyers should expect to receive a 720p AH-IPS LCD screen upfront, a Snapdragon chipset with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and a 1080p HD video-capable 8-megapixel rear-facing camera.

Several theories have circulated in terms of the Optimus LTE P936 target market, one of which used the model number of the LG Nitro HD P930 (AT&T) as an indicator for its arrival in the US.

Verizon Wireless also has its own Optimus LTE smartphone to offer with the LG Spectrum, leaving Sprint as the most probable carrier to put the P936 on shelves.

Sprint is hot on the heels of its upcoming 4G LTE network launch in a few months so LG may have something in store to match the momentous event. continues on Social Barrel
