LG G4 review: Design and build

Despite rumours of a metal build, LG has gone for genuine leather instead which is unusual as a main option (you can choose it for the Moto X but it’s a premium extra). The leather feels nice with the stitching so it’s preferable to faux leather as found on some Samsung devices but some colours aren’t great such as yellow and sky blue. Although the leather is vegetable tanned and LG says the colour will change over time.

If the idea of leather puts you off the LG G4 straight away then don’t worry because there is a ceramic option too which has a smooth diamond texture and comes in three colours: Metallic Gray, Ceramic White and Shiny Gold. However, this feels pretty plasticky especially the white model with LG con…………… continues on LG G4 review – PC Advisor (registration)

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is a very different phone compared with the Note 4, but it also stands apart compared to other flagships. Many of the features Samsung removed from the Note line continue to exist elsewhere, but you won’t have quite the same experience. Take the LG G4 as an example: It’s more modular and lighter, but are the missing software features worth the tradeoff? Let’s see how they stack up.

Review: LG’s G Flex 2 makes me wish all big phones were curved – The Next Web
News from Review: LG’s G Flex 2 makes me wish all big phones were curved – The Next Web:

LG showed off its engineering muscles with the original G Flex, but didn’t quite succeed at showing us why the world needs a curved phone.

While we saw some boons to the curve, the unwieldly size, low resolution, middling software and disappointing camera meant it wasn’t the holistic tour-de-force it could have been. It was more marketing gimmick and cool tech demo than something you’d want to call your everyday phone.

A year and half later, enter the G Flex 2. Not to spoil the review, but it’s better in every way. It’s smaller, looks better and has a much better camera. Where the G Flex was an interesting tech demo, the G Flex 2 is just a good phone – one that may just stand up to the best of the Android contenders.

LG Looks to Avoid Apple’s Shadow, Dribbles Out News of G4 Flagship Phone
News from Re/code:

Let’s face it, no matter how good LG’s upcoming G4 is, it is going to have trouble getting noticed in a market dominated by Apple and Samsung.

Making matters worse is that both Samsung and HTC have already launched this year’s flagship models with the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 both hitting the U.S. market this month.

So props to LG for trying an approach different from the big-bang rollout favored by its larger rivals. Instead, LG is employing one of its favorite methods: Tease your own launch with nuggets of news.

While the official G4 announcement isn’t planned until April 28, LG has already had separate releases touting the 5.5-inch screen that will be on the device and changes the company is making to its software interface. LG also announced a program to give 4,000 consumers a month-long test drive of the new phone.

That’s in addition to teaser videos and other attempts at buzz generation.

Microsoft Lumia 640

Those who are looking for quality devices that don’t cost a fortune would do well to check out LG and Microsoft’s latest budget offerings, the LG Magna and Microsoft Lumia 640.

LG announced the Magna in February along with three other mid-range devices, the LG Leon, Joy, and Spirit. The Magna is the top end of the new lineup but is still well and truly designed to be a mid-range handset. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Lumia 640 was announced at MWC 2015, and is Microsoft’s follow up to the Lumia 635.

Here, we compare the two mid-range phones.

Design:
The LG Magna has a slight curve at the back, which makes it very comfortable to hold. The plastic panel has a grated texture, which gives it a non-slippery feel. It measures 5.50 x 2.75 x 0.40 inches and is available in black, gold, and white.

Meanwhile, the Microsoft Lumia 640 takes its design cues from the Nokia Lumia 635, but its corners are slightly more rounded off. The phone also feels slippery due to its plastic back. It measures 5.56 x 2.84 x 0.35 inches and is available in white, blue, black, and or…………… continues on Christian Post

LG G Flex 2 vs Google Nexus 6

LG became the talk of CES 2015 when the tech company unveiled the LG G Flex 2, a phone designed to flex and bend and can self-heal in a matter of seconds. The phone’s innovative design sent tech fans scrambling to know when the device will be available, because aside from its unique form, the phone has better specs than its predecessor.

Meanwhile, Google’s Nexus 6 is just a few months older than the G Flex 2, but the handset’s top of the line specs, big screen and premium build has made it a consistent favorite among Android phone fans.

Here, we compare the two devices:

Design:
The Nexus 6 is Google’s first supersized smartphone, and he phone measures 6.27 x 3.27 x 0.40 inches and weighs 6.49 ounces. The phone has an aluminum frame with a matte, plastic back, has curved edges, and is available in Cloud White and Midnight Blue.

Meanwhile, the LG G Flex 2 is truly one of a kind—it’s a phone with a curved shape, which flattens when it’s pressed down, but springs back to its original shape once pressure has been taken off of it. The phone mea…………… continues on Christian Post

LG introduced its first G Flex curved phone back in the fall of 2013. Unlike the side-to-side curved phone rushed to market by rival Samsung (SSNLF) (and, thankfully, q…………… continues on TheStreet.com

LG G Flex2 review
News from Digital Trends:

Curved shapes are evocative, attractive, tactile, and sometimes even sensual. The G Flex2 is LG’s second curved phone, and while the original stood out visually, it didn’t make our knees go all wobbly when it came to processing power. On paper, the G Flex2 fixes all the complaints about the G Flex. Let’s find out if the phone can live up to expectations this time around.

Hands-on video

Phones don’t get better looking

The G Flex2 feature everyone comments on is the curved screen. It’s not a dramatic curve at just 23 degrees, but it’s noticeable from all angles, and it gives the phone a very individual look. Nobody will mistake this phone for anything else, certainly not an iPhone, and that’s a very welcome thing in today’s oblong block-obsessed phone world.

The G Flex2 cures complaints about the G Flex being all style and no substance

Is it only there for aesthetic reasons? Initially, I didn’t expect it to be anything other than a gimmick, but I was very wrong. The curved screen makes the phone tougher than those with flat screens, and it’s better equipped at absorbing shocks. It also places the microphone closer to…………… continues on Digital Trends

Samsung Galaxy S6

2015 is turning out to be a good year for tech manufacturers and techies as new devices have been released to great fanfare at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada on January and at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week.

Two of the most anticipated devices are LG’s G Flex 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6. The G Flex 2 made its debut at CES 2015, and many were impressed with its ability to bend and flex just like its predecessor, but the phone features a lot of improvements on the previous model.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 launched at the 2015 MWC, and Samsung’s new flagship phone underwent a dramatic—and welcome—change in design and has amazing specs that could firmly place it on top of every best smartphone of the year lists.

Here, we compare the two handsets.

Design:
The LG G Flex 2 is lighter, thinner, and more flexible than its predecessor. Pushing down on the phone will cause it to flatten, but as soon as any weight or pressure is off the device, it springs back into its curved shape right away. The phone has a self-heali…………… continues on Christian Post

LG G Flex 2 Review: Innovative And Powerful But With Some Flaws
News from Forbes:

The first LG G Flex 2 was an interesting phone. Seen by most people as just a gimmick its curved design and “self-healing” case was an interesting move for LG. I have to say though, not only did I love the first generation Flex, I also appreciate the fact that LG tries to do things a bit differently.

The second Flex is another interesting phone, and I’m pleased to say that LG has really tried to address some of the complaints I had about the first generation model. The screen is a new model, with a much improved resolution of 1080×1920. That gives the handset a more high-end look, although it falls short of some of the other flagships with their quad-HD resolutions.

For me, the big question about the G Flex 2 is how good it is as a phone. The curve, scratch resistance and bendability is really a secondary issue.

You can bend it

Let’s be honest, who cares if you can bend a phone. There is no one who needs to bend a phone – beyond those who made iPhone 6 bendgate videos – and it’s unlikely to appeal on this basis. What is perhaps relevant is that the bendability of the G Flex 2 means that it does actually make for a pretty rugged phone. Put it in any pocket, sit on it, and it will almost certainly survive.

LG’s G Flex 2 is an odd idea, but…………… continues on Forbes

LG’s Four New Phones, Premium Features at a Medium Price
News from Small Business Trends:

Very soon, some major smartphone manufacturers are going to release new models of their flagship devices.

LG is getting a jump on them by announcing four new LG phones. And the company is hoping to attract customers with some mid-range price tags on those phones.

The company says that the Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy smartphones will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Mobile World Congress conference. That’s where a few other companies are expected to make a splash with new devices.

LG offers a sneak peak at its new LG phones ahead of MWC. While others go high-end, the company is banking on an audience with a restricted budget.

Juno Cho, LG’s president and CEO, says in a statement on the company’s website:

“For millions of consumers around the world, the deciding factor on which smartphone to buy isn’t how fast or how big it is but how balanced it is. With our new mid-range smartphones, more and more customers will be looking to LG for their next handsets.”

LG G Flex 2

LG started the trend of manufacturing phones with a curve, and the LG G Flex, the company’s banana-shaped phone turned heads and impressed a lot of people with its innovative design. Now, the company launched the follow up at CES 2015—The LG G Flex 2.

While the phone has the same curved shape as its predecessor, it has new specs and dimensions that make it an entirely fresh and new device.

The G Flex 2 has a self-healing back, and light scratches on the phone disappear in a matter of seconds. The buttons are located at the back of the phone. The volume up and down buttons flank the home button from the top and bottom. The phone comes in two colors: the classic Platinum Silver, and the eye-catching Flamenco Red.

The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor backed up by 2GB of RAM. As for internal storage, the G Flex 2 comes in 16GB and 32GB models, but with the help of a microSD card, the memory can be expanded up to 2TB. The phone has a 13MP rear-facing camera, and a 2.1MP front shooter.

Secret bendy LG phone with dual-edge display spotted at CES
News from Broadbandchoices News:

LG has displayed a new bendy phone behind closed doors at CES 2015, fuelling speculation that the curvy display may feature in the Korean firm’s flagship G4 device later this year.

The flexible screen on the prototype seen at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas offers three screens (kind of) with the display curving at either side. Some industry insiders photographed the 6-inch device and images have since surfaced on the Korean news site inews24.

The LG G Flex 2 unveiled earlier this week is also a bendy phone but unlike the prototype seen in private, the Flex 2 is only curved vertically and does not offer extra screen space to store app icons and other widgets and notifications.

The new device is reportedly being called the HD Active Bending phone at present and features a P-AMOLED display with two side-view screens. That would make it more impressive than the recent Samsung Galaxy Edge, which only had one single side screen.

LG has work to do on the specs of the display though as the prototype at CES is only HD (1280×720) while Samsung’s flagship phone managed to pack in a staggeringly sharp Quad HD (2560×1440) screen when it launched in UK markets late last year.

LG will also no doubt be aware of rumours pointing towards a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge model so they’ll…………… continues on Broadbandchoices News

It’s the battle for smartphone supremacy as the Samsung Galaxy S5 goes head to head with the LG G3. Both phones come with an amazing display and impressive cameras, but which one of these phones will reign supreme?

Youtube Screenshot/ file

LG G3 vs. Samsung Galaxy S5

Design:
The G3 incorporates LG’s Floating Arc design, so one can see that the back of the phone is curved, which makes it fit comfortably in one’s hand. It measures 5.8 x 2.9 x 0.35 inches and weighs 5.3 ounces. It has a large display measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and has one of the sharpest displays you can find on any handset.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S5 is still heavy on the plastic like its predecessor, but it now has a faux leather back. It measures 5.6 x 2.9 x 0.31 inches and weighs 5.1 ounces, and though it’s a smidge smaller and lighter than the G3, you’ll find that it can be hard to manipulate the device with one hand. The 5.1 inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080.

Features:
The Galaxy S5 has an IP rating of 67, and the device can withstand a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. It is powered by a Snapdragon 801 p…………… continues on Christian Post
