Hands On With the LG Fireweb Firefox Phone
News from PC Magazine:

The latest low-cost Firefox phone raises the processor bar, but keeps things basic.

LAS VEGASMozilla is aiming its line of Firefox phones at emerging markets, promising smartphone power at sub-smartphone prices. The latest entry, the LG Fireweb, is a bigger, faster Firefox phone, but still keeps prices down. We go hands on at CES.

The LG Fireweb is a boxy, squarish phone, with a 1GHz processor, 4-inch, 320-by-480 screen and 5-megapixel camera. That gives it a leg up on the earlier ZTE Open, but it’s still a lower-resolution screen than I’m used to seeing at this size. It’s a 3G phone on AT&T’s bands, and it has GPS and a built-in FM radio.

LG Reportedly Prices Nexus 4 at €599 for Retailers
News from Tom’s Hardware Guide:

The Nexus 4 is looking pretty pricey in Europe.

When Google announced the LG Nexus 4 last week, one of the most surprising things about the phone was its price. While most unlocked, SIM-free phones cost about $ 500, Google was selling the Nexus 4 for considerably less. The 8GB version of the phone will sell for $ 299 and, if you’re looking for a 16GB model, you can expect to pay $ 349. The phone is also selling for a pretty competitive price in Europe. However, for those that do want to sign a contract with their Nexus 4, it’s a different story.

On Friday, Spanish retailer The Phone House announced that it was suspending Nexus 4 sales because LG’s recommended retail price was €599. The retailer said that because the price was higher than the MSRP offered via Google, the company wasn’t going to sell the phone. The Phone House said that doing so would not honor its commitment to provide customers with the lowest price possible.

NDTV writes that the phone is similarly expensive in Italy, Denmark and Austria. For most people, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. While it’s…………… continues on Tom’s Hardware Guide

LG reportedly building first Boot2Gecko phone as Mozilla preps app store
News from Ars Technica:

Mozilla’s Web-centric Boot2Gecko (B2G) mobile platform is maturing at a rapid pace. As we reported earlier this month, the operating system has already attracted hardware partners and will be demoed at the upcoming Mobile World Congress event. Mozilla is also planning to unveil its new application storefront, called the Mozilla Marketplace, which will allow third-party developers to sell applications that are built with standards-based Web technologies.

A new report from ExtremeTech cites anonymous sources who say that LG is one of Mozilla’s hardware partners. The company is said to be working towards the launch of a developer-focused smartphone that will ship with an early version of the B2G operating system.

The initial developer product will give B2G contributors and application developers a real-world hardware environment for testing their work. Mozilla’s road-map indicates that B2G will be ready for actual consumers in the second half of 2012. At that point, it will compete with Android a…………… continues on Ars Technica
