uSwitch exclusive: LG Nexus 5 renders and video confirm rear fingerprint …
News from uSwitch.com (Tech):

The LG Nexus 5 2015 edition will feature a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and pack a 5.2-inch screen and protruding camera, renders obtained by uSwitch reveal.

Sourced on our behalf by @OnLeaks, AKA Steve Hemmerstoffer of Nowwhereelse.fr, the renders are based on detailed factory schematics provided to accessory-makers. They’re then used as the blueprint to ensure third-party accessories are compatible with as-yet-unreleased handsets.

The renders confirm that LG, which experimented with including buttons on the back of its G3 and G4, will take this approach a stage further for the Nexus 5 with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that sits square beneath the protruding camera.

Around the front, it looks like they’ll be dual-stereo speakers for a nice, full sound.

The images also add heft to claims that the screen will come in 5.2-inches, up from 4.95-inches last time around, and effectively rubber-stamp reports that the phone will be 146.9mm high, 72.9mm wide and is 8mm thick. However, if you include the protruding camera in the latter measure, it’s 9.8…………… continues on uSwitch.com (Tech)

Here’s why LG is still making flip phones
News from The Verge:

Like AOL subscriptions, the flip phone seems to be an anachronism, a leftover fragment from another age. And yet, just like AOL subscriptions, the flip phone persists, with LG this week introducing its Wine Smart handset. It runs Android on a 3.2-inch screen, comes in a choice of burgundy or navy, and it even has an LTE connection. Plus it has a physical number pad and a bunch of shortcut buttons that old Nokia might have been proud of.

It would be easy to poke fun at something we don’t understand, but it’s far more interesting to find out why this LG Wine Smart handset (and a number of similar ones from Samsung) still exists. So I asked. Here’s what LG told me: flip phones remain popular with four, somewhat related classes of users. These are people who:

1) Use their phone primarily for talking, not gaming or browsing.

2) Want their young children to be connected but not distracted by games.

3) Are generally older and are not comfortable pressing buttons on a screen or have trouble seeing the small keys on a glass display.

4) Need smart functions occasionally for looking things up and messaging.

Case Manufacturer Posts LG G3 Renders Over the Weekend, Try to Contain …
News from Droid Life:

Over the weekend, purported “official” renders of the LG G3 popped up, watermarks began flying around, and the internet couldn’t contain itself over what it thought was a massive leak. I hate to break it to you, but the renders are from a case manufacturer who is promoting its LG G3 cases on Amazon early. That’s not say that these renders don’t tell us something, just keep in mind that these are by no means official.

Case manufacturer, Ringke (a favorite of ours for their slim cases), posted up new LG G3 products of theirs that will be in stock around June 30. The cases show the shape of the LG G3 with both white and black shells around white and black versions of the device. The camera, volume/power button combo, IR blaster, dual-LED, and speaker grill on the back all match up in placement to previous leaks.

On the front, we are seeing a blank, black screen that looks big, edge-to-edge, and with minimal bezel in the chin and top areas. We are also seeing what appears to be a cutout for either a TV antenna or P…………… continues on Droid Life

LG L90 Dual review: There is more to this phone than the knocking on heaven’s …
News from Indian Express:

The LG L90 is priced at Rs 17,499

Summary

The L90 is powered by the latest Android OS, the 4.4 KitKat and is in perfect synch with the phone’s hardware

The knock code has for long been used by prisoners to communicate with each other by producing a series of tap sounds. Alphabets, with the exception of K, are visualised in a 5×5 grid, and each letter is represented by two taps. The first tap signifies the row and the second tap tells the column in which the letter is in the grid. Prison authorities couldn’t decipher the code due to the incessant chatter of prisoners using prison walls, bars etc to tap coded messages. When held in isolation this was perhaps the only way that a prisoner could talk to other inmates.

Decades later, Korean electronics giant LG has patented the Knock Code and introduced a striped down version of it in its new entrant to the L Series Collection, the L90. LG in its press release claimed it to be the “most secure pattern unlocking mechanism”. And we put that to the test.

A user can preset a tap sequence on a 2×2 grid and use it to unlock the screensaver. One would presume, the more the number of taps, the more secure the phone is. For all practical purposes we set a 10-tap unlock sequence. Barring a few minor hiccups — human error — the phone picks the sequence and unlocks without delay. You wi…………… continues on Indian Express

Press Renders for LG G Flex on AT&T and T-Mobile Leaked

Press Renders for LG G Flex on AT&T and T-Mobile Leaked
News from Droid Life:

Last night, @evleaks posted a couple of press renders for the LG G Flex; one for T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network and the other for AT&T’s network. There were no dates given along with the images, so we still don’t know when to exactly expect these devices to hit the States, except for one source who stated February. When they do, we will more than likely be looking to pick one up, given the uniqueness of their design.

The G Flex features a quad-core processor, 6″ HD display, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP back-facing camera, and plenty of other great top-tier specs. If a curved device was on your wishlist for 2014, you aren’t too far away.

Thoughts on the G Flex? Are we hoping it also makes an appearance for Verizon’s network?
