President Obama may soon be rocking an Android from Samsung or LG

President Barack Obama may soon be giving up his trusty Blackberry in favor of something more… green. Before you give Obama brownie points, the switch (like most things) has absolutely nothing to do with his own preference, but that of the White House Communications Agency (WHCA), which oversees all of the President’s communications, both incoming and outgoing.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the WHCA (along with an internal technology team) is still in the early phases of testing smartphones from both Samsung and LG to be used for official use. The next LG hero phone, according to Geek.com, is actually a device that is codenamed for now as LG B2. Pointing to an unnamed source, the tech sited added that the same handset is lined up for debut in early June with a target on the 19th at the latest.

It is alleged that LG is gunning for an earlier release of its flagship smartphone compared to the previous models in order to better compete with the likes of iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5. The latter, however, is set to hit the market starting on April 11.

But what really is exciting about the upcoming Android phone from LG is the prospect of its ‘twin’ coming out shortly, which many believe is the Nexus 6.

White House Testing Samsung and LG Phones, Looking to Get President …

It seems BlackBerry devices don’t see much use here in America unless you work for the US government, as “only BlackBerry is designed to meet the high-security needs of U.S. and allied government agencies,” said a BlackBerry spokesperson. That was stated following the news that our nation’s White House staff is internally testing devices from both Samsung and LG, possibly looking to get President Barack Obama off of his beloved BlackBerry device. 

While declining to state which exact devices from the two OEMs are currently being used, a Dept. of Defense representative was quoted as saying, “we can confirm that the White House Communications Agency, consistent with the rest of the Department of Defense, is piloting and using a variety of mobile devices.” With that said, they commented further, clarifying that we could be months away from this great nation having a new First Smartphone.
