News from BGR:

LG (066570) has found new life with its flagship Optimus G smartphone. The popular handset has been selling well across the globe and even spawned a larger and more powerful successor earlier this year for the Japanese market, known as the Optimus G Pro. It appears that LG isn’t done tweaking its Optimus G line of devices, however.

According to a purported spec sheet

LG Mobile Teases New Phones on its Facebook Page
News from TechnoBuffalo:

by Sean P. Aune | February 6, 2013

LG wants everyone to know something new is on the horizon, but they’re not going to tell us when we might be seeing it.

With Mobile World Congress starting up in a few weeks in Barcelona, there are sure to be many new phones and tablets being announced in the coming weeks. However, with HTC having an event prior to the big show, and rumors that Samsung will be holding back the Galaxy S IV to an event some time later in the spring, the truly big announcements seem to be skipping Spain this year.

Then LG goes and throws a wrench in the whole thing by posting an image to its Facebook page today that simply says a “new series will be unveiled.”

While quite a bit of the speculation online seems to be pointing to the Optimus G Pro,

Verizon Branded LG Optimus LTE2 Pictured, Possible Launch in Two Days?
News from Droid Life:

Here is the LG VS930. Previously known to most as the Optimus LTE2, we can now rest assured that LG will not bring a dedicated home button to Big Red. According to Engadget’s source, we can expect the following specs from this device:

  • Android 4.0.4
  • 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 SoC
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 4.7-inch “True HD IPS” display (1280 x 720 pixels)
  • 16GB of built-in storage
  • Global radio support (GSM/UMTS/CDMA/LTE)
  • NFC (it comes with programmable tags)
  • 8MP camera

Along with the above picture and detailed specifications, a leaked PDF shows that this device could launch as early as July 13. Whoa, two days? Given that there hasn’t been any indication from Verizon that this phone even exists, the chances of a July 13 release date is slim.

Earlier reports indicated that we could be hopeful…………… continues on Droid Life

LG F180 specs to rival Samsung Galaxy S3
News from Phones Review:

Today we have news for you of an upcoming LG phone, the LG F180, and although full specs and features are not yet known, from what we’ve seen so far this looks like it could rival the Samsung Galaxy S3 (S III). The F180 will be powered by a quad-core processor and to be honest the rest of the specs also jump off the page, making this one to sit up and take notice of.

A couple of days ago we spoke of a new LG Optimus smartphone that would be quad-core and could feature a 10-megapixel camera and we now think that could be the F180 although the specs of this are even better than expected. Bear in mind that F180 is currently the codename of this smartphone and we don’t know the title it will release under. There’s likely to be a huge amount of interest in this phone though so we’ll keep you informed with more as we hear it.

Rumored specs and features of the LG-F180, according to GSM Arena sourced from Android Authority, include a 1.5GHz quad-core Krait processor, Adreno 320 graphics, a 5-inch IPS HD display and 2GB of RAM. It’s already looking promising then…………… continues on Phones Review

LG Optimus Elite pictured – doesn’t sound too Elite

LG Optimus Elite pictured – doesn’t sound too Elite
News from Android Community:

A new phone from LG has been leaked today in a set of official renders or press images. Being called the LG Optimus Elite although I’d go as far as to call it much less than that. We’ve seen reports on this phone before with a rumored name of the LG Optimus Net and Gelato, but we can now confirm this phone and its “Elite” status.

Made available to the folks at Pocket Now this phone will be launching on both the Now Network, and Virgin Mobile in the next couple of months. Most likely late April or sometime in May. The Elite will feature a measly 800 Mhz single-core processor, a 3.2-inch HVGA display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and be paired with a 5 megapixel camera and LED flash.

Looking at the image is that a mirror of some sort next to the camera? Like those old Sony Ericsson phones from 2007? (I loved my k750i) It looks pretty weird to be a speaker grill. One good thing here is the phone will be very competitively priced, and it better be with dual-core LTE phones like the LG Lucid being released on Verizon today for only $ 79. One feature you wont want to miss on the LG Optimus Elite is the phone is NFC capable and can take advantage of those Optimus Tags, or Android Beam if…………… continues on Android Community

LG Display Starts to Produce Bendable E-Paper Displays.
News from X-bit Labs:

LG Display on Thursday said that it had started mass production of the world’s first plastic electronic paper display (EPD) for use in e-book reader readers. The new display is foldable, therefore, very durable, and very thin, which will allow to make e-readers thinner.

The 6″ XGA (1024-768), e-ink, plastic EPD is expected to revolutionize the e-book reader market with its advancements in functionality and design. The world’s first plastic EPD from LG Display offers users a paper-like reading experience with a plastic substrate that is as slim as cell phone protection film, and a flexible design that allows bending at a range of 40 degrees from the center of the screen. Compared to glass EPD of the same size and resolution, LG Display’s plastic EPD realizes a super slim thickness of 0.7mm which is 33% slimmer than existing glass EPD; as well as a weight of 14g which is more than 50% lighter.

E-book reader users have long expressed a desire for more durable EPD, since around 10% of them have damaged their product screens from accidentally dropping or hitting them. When LG Display’s plastic EPD was put through repeated drop tests, from 1.5m above the ground or the average height of reading when standing, no damage resulted. When put through a break/scratch test involving hitting the display with a small urethane hammer, no scratches or breakage resulted. continues on X-bit Labs
