Curved LG G Flex 2 Phablet a Sequel Improving the Original

Curved LG G Flex 2 Phablet a Sequel Improving the Original
News from Small Business Trends:

LG is trying its hand again at a curved smartphone. It may be one of the few times when the sequel bests the original. The company is following the unimpressive debut of the LG G Flex with the LG G Flex 2. The G Flex 2 was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The latest smartphone — actually a phablet with its 5.5-inch display — seeks to upgrade the experience many got from the original curved device from LG.

That experience was lackluster, but the sequel is a real improvement, reports Engadget,

In a company release announcing the new device, LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company president and CEO Juno Cho

The LG phablet, a phone-tablet
News from Mail & Guardian Online:

LG has entered the phone-tablet arena as it introduces its 5.5″ G-Pro Lite, which combines a big screen and a stylus with slightly more modest specs.

When Samsung released their Note phablet, the concept of a phone big enough to be a tablet didn’t exist. Fast forward three phablet generations and the concept is exploding. Not everyone needs a high-end phablet, so enter the LG G-Pro Lite – launched at the start of February – a 5.5-inch device that combines a big screen and a stylus with slightly more modest specs. The LG G2 was probably my favourite phone of 2013 and I’m an LG fan, so the G-Pro Lite had a lot of expectations to meet when I reviewed the device.

Hardware
We’re talking a 5.5″ 540×960 pixel screen (it’s certainly not full HD, but does the job) coupled with a dual core processor, eight megapixel rear camera, built-in stylus and a 3000mAh battery. In layman’s terms: big screen, big battery, combined with a decent camera and processor.

On the outside, we have the standard three Android buttons on the front of the screen; with “Home” being a physical button, along with “Power” and “Volume” buttons around the side. Just above the
“Volume” buttons is another key that turns on Q-Memo. This app a…………… continues on Mail & Guardian Online

LG Confirms Its G Pro 2 Flagship Phablet, Yet Another Phone That’s Mostly Screen

LG Confirms Its G Pro 2 Flagship Phablet, Yet Another Phone That’s Mostly Screen
News from TechCrunch:

Say hello to the G Pro 2, LG’s new flagship smartphone — leaked aplenty up to now but officially confirmed today by the mobile maker. The Android 4.4 KitKat powered 4G quad-core device packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.26 GHz processor, 3GB of memory and a 13MP rear camera with an optical image stabilization feature to support better snapping.

It’s (yet) another high end smartphone that’s practically all screen, with LG inflating the size of the pane vs last year’s model — bumping it up from the 5.5 inches of the Optimus G Pro to a 5.9 inch full HD pane.

That screen is clasped on two sides by an extra slim bezel of just 3.3mm, with LG touting “an industry-leading screen-to-frame ratio of 77.2 percent”, showing how marginal form factor design parameters have become if makers are shouting about squeezing more screen onto the slab.

Definitions of how large a screen a smartphone must have to qualify for ‘phablet’ status vary — and are likely themselves moving goal posts as more and more smartphon…………… continues on TechCrunch

A Week With The LG G Flex
News from TechCrunch:

Most of the reviews of the LG G Flex have already gone up, but since the phone is slowly percolating out in the U.S., I thought I’d give it a full week of use to see just what the fuss was about. If you watched our Fly or Die, below, you’ll know that I’m excited by the phone but consider it a novelty, and it may be too pricey for most users. However, as a peek at things to come, it was quite fascinating. This week reinforced that opinion.

The phone, if you’ll recall, is a 6-inch phablet with a curved, 1,280 x 720 pixel OLED screen. It runs a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 with Android 4.2.2 on board. It has an HD rear camera and no external storage.

This is not about how the phone performs. It works quite capably in most situations and offered amazing battery life – I saw three days of moderate use until I ran down the battery. While your results may vary – I didn’t use this as my primary email device, for example – the Flex’s huge 3,500mAh and low-power processor worked well together. While video watching will put a bit of a dent in the phone, I would still recommend this device on battery performance alone.

The real gimmick, however, is the curved screen. First, at six inches, thi…………… continues on TechCrunch

Phone makers rush to cash in on Samsung’s phablet craze
News from PCWorld:

More by Jared Newman

Now that Samsung has been successful with its Galaxy Note phone-tablet crossover, other phone makers are joining in on the phablet craze.

LG, HTC, ZTE, Sharp and Sony have all either announced phones with 5-inch or larger displays, or are believed to be working on them. Only one of these Galaxy Note alternatives, LG’s Intuition, is currently available in the U.S., but that may change as gigantic smartphones gain traction.

Here’s a rundown of rumor…………… continues on PCWorld

LG Nexus 4: Should It Be Your Next Phone Or Skip It?
News from Auto-o-Mobile:

The world of smartphones is overwhelming at the moment as new phones come onto the market each month. Some of them do make an impression that sticks while others are just lost in the confusion of plastic, metal, glass and silicone. However one handset that stands out as not just any other Android handset is the recently unveiled LG Nexus 4.

LG Nexus 4: it’s right for me but how about you?

The LG Nexus 4 is the new flagship device of Google and LG and it is in a league of its own and more than likely will still be relevant 10 months from now. The device comes with some of the best hardware from Google to date and happens to arguably be the best smartphone in the Android line up as well. The device does come with some drawbacks, however when it comes to user experience nothing can match it.

LG have delivered some devices that have been under par in the past so some will be skeptical about the Nexus 4. However these individuals should look at the LG Nexus 4 with an open mind. Most of the issues with LG devices in the past have been with their integration of software and lack of upgrades. However when it comes to the Nexus 4 all of this will be handled by Google.

LG have shown that they have what it takes with their Optimus G, which is the handset that the Nexus 4 is based on. This device stands out when it comes t…………… continues on Auto-o-Mobile

LG’s Optimus Vu phablet coming to the US, likely Verizon

LG’s Optimus Vu phablet coming to the US, likely Verizon
News from Digitaltrends.com:

LG is planning to bring the Optimus Vu to the United States and Verizon may be its first home.

The era of massive phones is just beginning. Following the success of the Galaxy Note in the US, LG is planning to launch the Optimus Vu here in North America — it’s entry into the 5-inch smartphone market. In a translated press release, LG claims that Vu sales have surpassed 500,000 in Korea and that the phone will come to the United States in the third quarter (or next couple months) of 2012. The phone will also have 4G LTE connectivity and run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

No exact release date or carrier partners are yet known, but leaked images in recent weeks point toward a Verizon launch. It’s possible that the Vu will come to more than just Verizon, but probably not at first. US wireless carriers  tend to prefer exclusive contracts on phones for at least a few months. It’s li…………… continues on Digitaltrends.com

LG Optimus 4X HD out 27 August, preorder on Phones 4u
News from CNET UK:

LG’s mighty flagship Optimus 4X HD is officially arriving on 27 August, so if you want one you’d better get your skates on and scoot on down to Phones 4u and preorder it today.

If the phone alone isn’t enough to get you shifting, Phones 4u will send you to see Ms Cheryl Cole — the first 50 lucky preorders will get two tickets to see the Geordie songstress in the flesh, at the coincidentally named LG Arena in Birmingham.

The 8.9mm slim Optimus 4X HD boasts Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, with a mahoosive 4.7-inch 720p screen and 16GB of internal storage. Moreover, LG won’t shut up about its new User Experience, which includes advanced multimedia features such as QuickMemo and Media Plex.

As if there aren’t already enough outlets for sharing your thoughts, wishes, hopes, fears and pointless day dreams these days, QuickMemo allows you to jot down anything that pops into your ball of grey matter on the screen, and share it instantly with all your friends and family.

On top of that, LG has built in Media Plex, a program allowing you to play ar…………… continues on CNET UK
