Second-generation LG Optimus L7 leaks, supports dual SIMs
News from Phandroid.com:

LG will give their L series a second whirl around the sun with what is being called the LG Optimus L7 II Dual. How’s that for a name? To followup to last year’s L7, a budget phone with a focus on style, the new device will launch as a mid-range compliment to LG’s more robust Optimus offerings.

The phone is rumored to run a 1GHz dual-core CPU, 4.3-inch IPS display, 8MP am era, and dual-SIM support. The latter option usually indicates a launch in Asia (no brainer), but it’s typical in the smartphone industry for a company to manufacture a single SIM version for release elsewhere. The phone runs Android 4.1 and carries a 2460mAh battery.

The Optimus L7 II will be available in multiple colors towards the end of February, according to the leak. Last year’s models were released at MWC, and there is no reason LG won’t do the same in 2013.

LG Motion 4G (MetroPCS)
News from PC Magazine:

By Sascha Segan

The LG Motion 4G is a tremendous value for the money. While it isn’t MetroPCS’s best phone, and it certainly has its quirks, it’s hard to argue for what you’re getting at $ 99-149 without a contract here: Android 4.0 running with a dual-core processor on a fast network. At the very least, the Motion 4G puts competing budget smartphones to shame.

LG LS860 Cayenne for Sprint, LG MS770 Motion 4G for MetroPCS appear in …
News from PhoneDog:

Shortly after leaking details on a Samsung-made Android phone for Verizon, the @evleaks Twitter account has now posted details on two unannounced LG handsets. The first device is the LG Cayenne for Sprint, which we’ve seen a couple of times in the past. Also going by the model number LS860, the Cayenne’s spec sheet is said to include a 4-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel rear camera, Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, 4G LTE and Android 4.0. There’s also a physical QWERTY keyboard bolted on.

Meanwhile, MetroPCS customers can reportedly look forward to the LG Motion 4G making its way to their carrier. The Motion 4G features the model number MS770 and is rumored to sport a qHD (960×540) display on its face and a 5-megapixel camera around back. We’re also told to expect a Snapdragon chipset, 4G LTE and Android 4.0. The @evleaks account also claims that there may be an AT&T version of the Motion 4G coming with th…………… continues on PhoneDog

LG Optimus M+ (MetroPCS)

Friday, May 18th, 2012

LG Optimus M+ (MetroPCS)
News from CNET:

A little more than a year ago, MetroPCS released its first-ever Android smartphone, the LG Optimus M. Though its plastic build made it less glamorous-looking than its counterparts from different networks, the M was competitively priced and did not require a contract.

Fast-forward to now, and boy, do these carriers done grow up so fast. MetroPCS has offered numerous Android handsets since then and it’s currently selling 10. One of which is a revamped version of the debut Android device itself, aptly called the LG Optimus M+.

Although the M+ is still marketed as an inexpensive device, it has a bigger screen this time around, and slightly better specs. It also lost some weight, sporting a thinner redesign. Though not as historically meaningful as its predecessor, the M+ still carries on the tradition of being a solid, entry-level phone.

Design
The LG Optimus M+ went through a welcome redesign from its predecessor. At 0.39 inch thick, it’s noticeably thinner than before and I’m fond of the new details, like the sharper corners, the tapered sides, and the convex top and bottom. It measures 4.48 inches long and 2.47 inches wide, and it weighs 4.23 ounces. I like that it feels slightly wide in the hand, which makes i…………… continues on CNET

LG Eclipse photo shows removable battery and NFC
News from SlashGear:

HTC and Samsung have both shown their hands of this years top of the line smartphones, but LG may still have something up its sleeve. BriefMobile has obtained more pictures of the LG Eclipse, said to be LG’s next superphone that will rival the Galaxy S III. The pictures show that the phone will have a removable battery and support for NFC, adding to the previously leaked specs of the device.

The back may not be too exciting, but the specs are looking impressive: a 4.67-inch screen with a 720p LCD display, quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 13 megapixel camera with LED flash. The handset is said to be 8.6mm thick, and will feature LTE connectivity in the United States.

It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of specs, even when we’re nearing the end of that race, but LG hasn’t been neglecting software. A few days ago they announced the Optimus UI 3.0 modifications…………… continues on SlashGear

LG Connect 4G (MetroPCS)

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

LG Connect 4G (MetroPCS)
News from CNET:

At CES this year, MetroPCS announced two new smartphones that will run on its 4G LTE network. One was the Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G, and the other was the more spec-robust LG Connect 4G.

The LG Connect 4G is the carrier’s first dual-core handset, but that’s not the only reason why it’s tapped as its shining star. It also has one of the brightest screens on the market–complete with 700 nits of Nova glory.

Because it is a flagship phone, it also comes with a flagship price. You can purchase the device through the carrier’s site for $ 319, after you send in a $ 30 mail-in rebate. Next to the LG Esteem, it is one of the most expensive current MetroPCS phones.

Since it doesn’t operate on the biggest, fastest, or most reliable network available in the United States, the LG Connect 4G does come with a few cons. But it’s always great to see more higher-end options for consumers who want to stick to a no-contract, pre-paid plan.

Design
At 4.59 inches long by 2.45 inches wide by 0.46 inches thick, the LG Connect 4G pulls off looking slim, without feeling too fragile. The device weighs in at 4.8 ounces, so it’s easy to handle and isn’t b…………… continues on CNET

What happens when Korea’s biggest wireless carriers and Korea’s biggest phone manufacturers get caught offering bogus wireless phone deals to their customers? Well, according to the Yonhap News Agency, Korea’s Fair Trade Commission gets pissed off and slaps those companies with huge fine — 45.3 billion won ($ 40.2 million) — for “price fixing and consumer fraud.”

If the fines are any indication, then carrier SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics were the biggest offenders here — they netted themselves a 20.2 billion won ($ 17.9 million) and 14.2 billion won ($ 12.6 million) penalty respectively.

Here’s how it all went down. Samsung, LG, and Pantech marked up the prices of a total of 209…………… continues on TechCrunch

Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G (MetroPCS)

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G (MetroPCS)
News from PC Magazine:

MetroPCS currently offers seven different smartphones, but only three of them support the carrier’s 4G LTE network. Since MetroPCS doesn’t have a 3G network, you’re stuck in the 2G Internet slow lane without LTE. The $ 199 Samsung Galaxy Attain 4G offers users an alternative to the pricier LG Esteem ($ 299, 4 stars), our current Editors’ Choice. While the Galaxy Attain is a fine midrange option, it could’ve been better with just a few tweaks.

Design, Call Quality, and Data Plans
The Samsung Galaxy Attain measures 4.6 by 2.6 by .5 inches (HWD). At 4.2 ounces it’s light, but feels kind of thick, like it’s hiding a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. (It’s not.) Made of shiny grey plastic with a textured back panel, the Galaxy Attain looks and feels midrange, but it’s a nice, comfortable phone to hold and use.

Does the overuse of branding bother you?
News from PhoneDog:

Mobile devices now come in a plethora of different flavors and sizes, each with its own unique twist. Judging from the outside, however, a lot of devices are really starting to look the same. To an untrained eye, the latest Motorola phone might be confused with a Samsung device. Or a new LG phone might be mistaken for an HTC-made phone.

Just over a month ago while eating Christmas dinner, a few family members asked me what phone I was carrying. Reluctantly (you may recall I was trying to disconnect and not talk about phones for a change), I pulled out my phone and showed it to them without saying a word. “Is that one of those new RAZRs? Or is that an iPhone?” Neither. It was a Galaxy Nexus.

And that’s the point. To a lot of people, every phone looks identical and that’s why branding is so important. By plastering a “Samsung” logo across the face of the device, there is no mistaking it for an iPhone or DROID RAZR upon closer inspection. Likewise, if that phone appeals to you and you see an AT&T logo across the face, you know exactly where to go to get one for yourself.

Some don’…………… continues on PhoneDog

LG Esteem (MetroPCS)

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

LG Esteem (MetroPCS)
News from CNET:

MetroPCS will forever hold the distinction of being the first to offer the U.S. an LTE market and phone 11 months ago, but it’s also been the slowest in developing a 4G portfolio. The LG Esteem represents the carrier’s second LTE smartphone since MetroPCS first launched the Samsung Galaxy Indulge.

Unlike the Galaxy Indulge, the Esteem no slide-out keyboard to accompany its all-touch screen. It’s thick, solid, and square as a brick, but it’s also MetroPCS’ best smartphone to date. The large, vibrant touch screen, the dual cameras, and the faster processor all add to the appeal, but there’s a major sticking point that keeps the Esteem from reaching its potential: its abysmal battery life.

There are some other perks as well: the HDMI-out port, for one, and the 720p HD…………… continues on CNET

LG introduces first 720p 4G LTE phone
News from Digitaltrends.com:

LG has matched Apple’s Retina Display and upped it by an inch. The new Optimus LTE boasts a 4.5-inch 720p screen. Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus already has competition.

Apple’s retina display will have some competition this holiday season. Today, LG unveiled a new Android phone with 4G LTE connectivity and its new superbright “NOVA” display, which achieves a low-end HD resolution of 720p (1280×720 pixels). At 4.5 inches, the IPS LCD screen has a 16:9 aspect  and more pixels per inch than Apple’s famed Retina Display for the iPhone 4 and 4S. LG’s display gets 329ppi over 4.5 inches, while Apple’s achieves 326ppi over 3.5 inches. Unfortunately, the phone is currently only set for launch in South Korea.

MetroPCS Offers Third Contract-Free LTE Phone, LG Esteem

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

MetroPCS Offers Third Contract-Free LTE Phone, LG Esteem
News from PC Magazine:

MetroPCS today released the LG Esteem for its 4G LTE network, a lightweight version of the LG Revolution LTE smartphone on Verizon.

The LG Esteem costs $ 249 after a $ 100 mail-in rebate; no contract necessary.

Apart from flashing LG’s custom Optimus user interface, the Esteem bears a strong resemblance to the LG Revolution on Verizon: a 4.3-inch capacitive touch screen, 1-GHz Snapdragon processor, 5-megapixel rear-facing and 1.3-megapixel front-facing cameras, 720p HD video recording, HDMI output and MicroSD slot. It ships with the Android 2.3.4 version of “Gingerbread,” which is more up to date than the Revolution’s Android 2.3 “Froyo” package. However, the Esteem has 8GB of storage compared to the Revolution’s 16GB.
