TECH TIME: Verizon’s LG Lucid offers decent smartphone for low price VIDEO
News from Dearborn Press and Guide:

There are tons of new smartphone releases each year, usually each one greater than the next as all the big brands compete to have the most popular and latest greatest phone on the market.

These are the offerings that draw the crowd that wants the absolute best, but they are usually pretty pricey. So what is someone to do who wants to save a few bucks but not get a junk phone?

Thankfully, there is an increasing amount of quality products coming out for the more budget conscious. For Verizon Wireless customers, this list now includes the LG Lucid, a new smartphone from Verizon that isn’t going to compete with the biggest name phones like your iPhones, HTC Ones or Galaxy S3s, but will serve the needs of a less demanding user.

I recently spent some time with the Lucid, and here’s a full report.

LOOKS

You get the standard thin candybar design on the Lucid, and its 4-inch screen is pretty large but smaller than many new phones on the market. This may or not be something you appreciate. If you want a huge phone, there are plenty of options out there bigger than the Lucid. But I’m willing to bet most people will find 4 inches big enough. It feels quite comfortable in your hand, which is important. Gorilla Glass protects the screen, which is nice, and the weight is a very light 5 ounces. Exact size specs are 4.69 inches high, 2.4…………… continues on Dearborn Press and Guide

LG Optimus Elite – a Budget and Eco-friendly Phone
News from The Driod Guy:

June 1st, 2012 by Roxanne Leave a reply »

Here is another smartphone that is green, eco-friendly, and price conscious. This is also good for starters. The LG Optimus Elite is the successor of the very popular Optimus S.

The plastic case is made up to 50 percent of recycled plastic.  LG Optimus is inexpensive, small and light with 3.5-inch capacitive display, single core 800MHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 5-megapixel camera and also enabled with NFC capability.  By the way, this is the third device launched from Sprint.

LG Optimus Elite is not really for everyone because it has its pros and cons.  Indeed this is really good for starters for being budget and eco-friendly which is made of recycled plastic, small, lightweight and pocket-friendly.

LG Optimus Elite comes with Gingerbread.  For advanced users of smartphones, I know you are not comfortable with it and with its single-core processor, you may find this one very slow.  With a screen size of 3.5 inches it has a low resolution approximately at 320×480.  It is also one of…………… continues on The Driod Guy

Pantech, LG Vie for Runner-Up Spot in LTE Smartphone Market
News from The Chosun Ilbo:

Pantech and LG Electronics are competing fiercely for second place in Korea’s 4G long-term evolution (LTE) phone market.

Pantech sold some 210,000 units of its flagship Vega Racer 2 since it was launched on May 11. Citing data released by market research firm Gartner, the phone maker said it took second place in the overall domestic smartphone market with a 20.5 percent share in the first quarter.

Pantech hopes it can consolidate its position in the LTE market with its new model, which supports Korean-language voice recognition and delivers up to 9.5 hours of talk time per battery charge.

Meanwhile, LG said it has sold 150,000 units of its Optimus LTE 2 since its launch on May 21. Despite the fact that the Vega Racer 2 has sold 60,000 more units so far, overall sales figures are not dissimilar because Pantech had a 10-day head start.

“In fact, LG has gained the edge in the LTE market,” said an employee at LG. The company claims its new phone has the fastest data-processing speed among all local models.

However, neither hold a candle to sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Note, which hit the market last November. Some 2.5 million units were sold in the last six months, making it the top-selling LTE smartphone in the domestic market.

“The Note is proving hugely popular, grabbing about 50 percent of the domestic LTE market for t…………… continues on The Chosun Ilbo

UK: LG Prada 3.0 can now be yours for just £239.99
News from Unwired View:

The LG Prada 3.0 (or Prada Phone by LG 3.0, or Prada Phone 3.0 by LG – the company doesn’t seem to be very clear about this phone’s name) has been available in the UK since February. So far, the pricing’s been indicative of a typical high-end Android smartphone. But now you have the chance of getting a pretty decent handset for a great price. And let’s not forget that it has the name Prada slapped on its front – that’s got to be worth something to someone.

The Prada 3.0 can now be yours for just £239.99, a far cry from the £400+ you were previously required to pay for this exact same device. Expansys is the retailer making this possible, so go there and order some Pradas. At this price, it’s actually not a bad smartphone.

LG announces cloud services for Android phones
News from IBNLive.com:

Mumbai: Following the footsteps of many, even LG has announced its cloud computing based services, called LG Cloud. Starting today onwards, this service enters in to the beta phase.

The LG Cloud aims to cater to the users for managing and consuming content on Android based smartphones, computers and Smart TVs. The Android based smartphone users will have to download the LG Cloud App from the Google Play or LG SmartWorld App Store.

Recently, it was reported that Samsung is set to launch its cloud computing centred service – S Cloud. This follows after Apple launched its iCloud service and Microsoft made its SkyDrive service official. While HTC had closely tied up with Dropbox, that left Samsung and LG to take a call.

LG Cloud is available for Android based smartphones, PCs and even Smart TVs.

The LG Cloud service basically involves storing your multimedia content in your dedicated LG Cloud account. The app on the Android phone automatically synchronises multimedia content with the user’s LG Cloud account and makes it available on the PC and Smart TVs. All the photos taken with the smartphone can be viewed on PC or Smart TVs almost instantaneously.

Besides, users can also stream videos from their cloud account to the smartphone, PC or the TV with minimal wait time. The str…………… continues on IBNLive.com

LG Lucid Review: A device with a lot of glossy goodness

LG Lucid Review: A device with a lot of glossy goodness
News from CNET:

With its snappy processor and a solid display, this midrange Android phone is a solid buy.

by Lynn La April 6, 2012 12:42 PM PDT

The two main things I have against the LG Lucid is that it has subpar call quality, and it glitters in sunlight. Kind of like how vampires do, circa 2005-2008.

The sparkling isn’t actually that noticeable. In addition to that, it’s only limited to the back of the phone, which has a subtle dark purple and black-striped design. This aesthetic might not be for everybody, however.

As for the call quality, there’s no way to get around that. Voices sounded muffled and harshly tinny, but calls were always steady and didn’t cut in and out.

Despite it being shipped with Android Gingerbread (it is upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich, but it would have been better, of course, if it natively came with ICS), I liked this handset.

If you buy it off of Verizon’s Web site and sign a two-year contract, it’ll set you back a reasonab…………… continues on CNET

The LG Lucid for Verizon Wireless targets first-time smartphone users looking for speed. The Lucid also sports a bright 4-inch display and dual-core processor. Read on to find out if this handset measures up to the value-priced competition.

Design

Click to EnlargeWhile the LG Lucid is coated in glossy plastic, it doesn’t look or feel cheap. Plus, this phone is lighter and more compact than similarly priced Android phones.

Gorilla Glass protects the Lucid’s 4-inch display, ensuring that it can take some abuse. A chrome LG logo sits along the top of the phone, across from the front-facing 0.3 megapixel camera in the right hand corner. A Verizon insignia rests at the bottom next to four capacitive touch buttons (Menu, Home, Back and Search).

LG Miracle with Telus Branding in the Wild

Mobile phone news website PocketNow posted an image of the rumored LG Miracle, indicating that the device also carries a branding of the Canadian telecommunication company Telus. Previously dubbed as LG Fantasy, the site’s source tipped that the handset is carrying an E704H moniker.

This contradicts the online publication’s previous claim that LG Fantasy will carry an E950 codename. Simply put, LG Fantasy and Miracle are different Windows Phone units. In addition, the LG device that made an appearance in Romania prior to Mobile World Congress event last February has a model name of E704. Lucid by LG hands-on and unboxing

Lucid by LG hands-on and unboxing
News from Android Community:

The latest phone to grace Verizon Wireless is finally here. This is the Lucid by LG with 4G LTE and a dual-core processor all for one low price. This phone comes in a neat little package and will be available starting tomorrow. Lucky for you we have it on the test bench and did a quick hands-on and unboxing to start things off, and will be taking it through the trenches over the next few days.

The Lucid by LG is the latest phone to be powered by Verizon 4G LTE, but as they said a few weeks ago, all smartphones in 2012 will be LTE capable. The Lucid is poised to compete in the mid-range market based on its price but the specs are near the top of the pack. It comes with a cute little design and a powerful dual-core processor. The specs include a 4-inch IPS display complete with a 480 x 800 resolution, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a micro-sd slot to expand storage should you choose.

With a plastic design and rounded edges all around it feels comfortable in the hand and has no square corners to cause discom…………… continues on Android Community

Verizon unveils LG Lucid mid-range LTE Android phone

Verizon unveils LG Lucid mid-range LTE Android phone
News from CNET:

The new LG Lucid smartphone will hit Verizon’s 4G LTE network for $ 80 on March 29.

by Brian Bennett March 27, 2012 7:27 AM PDT

(Credit: Verizon Wireless)

Hot on the heels of the handset’s leaked details, Verizon just made the LG Lucid official. The modestly specked device will cost $ 79.99 (with a 2-year contract), run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.

The LG Lucid’s screen is a roomy 4-inch display coated by tough Gorilla Glass treatment. For one-handed text entry there’s Swype’s virtual keyboard software along with Android’s stock virtual keys. Shutterbugs probably won’t find the Lucid’s 5-megapixel camera very impressive but LG does claim it will shoot video at a full 1080p HD.

The real draw for consumers will likely be the LG Lucid’s 4G LTE data connection. While much…………… continues on CNET

LG Spectrum Review: This Is One Ugly Sumbitch
News from TechCrunch:

Short Version

The LG Spectrum has spent a long while with me. In fact, LG’s asking for it back, saying that my review period has come to an end. I didn’t get around to the full review until now because (to be perfectly honest with you) I didn’t really want to sit down and talk about the LG Spectrum for X amount of hours.

True, there’s nothing necessarily “wrong” with the phone. It’s got solid specs, performs alright (I guess), and has a downright gorgeous display. But at the same time, there’s a long list of issues that I have with the phone, and most center around design.

Features:

  • 4.5-inch 720×1280 True HD IPS display
  • Verizon 4G LTE
  • Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 8MP rear camera (1080p video capture)
  • 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • LG UI
  • MSRP: $ 199.99 on-contract

Pros:

  • This is a stunning display, without a doubt
  • Camera gets the job done
  • 4G LTE speeds are fast

Cons:

  • Poor battery life
  • Creaks and cracks when stressed
  • Ugly: Too light and plastic-y to feel premium
  • LG UI is equally ugly

Wake up and see the LG Lucid for Verizon

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Wake up and see the LG Lucid for Verizon
News from Android Community:

The Lucid has been carefully avoiding our gaze for weeks now, but PocketNow managed to snag a shot of the Verizon-bound LG phone previously known as the Cayman. As expected, it’s a mid-range Gingerbread phone with the notable addition of 4G LTE. There’s no verification from either LG or Verizon, but it looks like this one’s headed our way on March 29th. While specs are short, speculation isn’t: we expect this one to slide in under the LG Spectrum for between $ 150 and $ 200 with a two-year contract.

The screen is expected to be a 4-inch, 480×800 NOVA display, with the extra acronym indicating a whopping 700 nits of brightness – more than double the standard. The 1.2Ghz dual-core processor is paired with a respectable 1GB of RAM. A 5MP camera on the back gets extra points for 1080p recording, and though we’re not sure how much internal space it has, but given LG’s design tendencies it almost certainly has a MicroSD card slot as well.

The design seems pretty pedestrian: a basic slate l…………… continues on Android Community

Samsung Edges Apple in Overall Phone Shipments: comScore
News from eWeek:

Samsung phones were used by more Americans than any other mobile brand during the three months ending in January, comScore reported March 6.

The firm added that while 234 million Americans used mobile devices, 101.3 million are now pocketing smartphones—a figure that jumped 13 percent from the three months ending in October 2011. comScore’s findings were based on surveys of 30,000 U.S. mobile subscribers age 13 and older.

In January, IHS iSuppli reported that the introduction of the iPhone 4S, which customers had been waiting for, made Apple the top-shipping smartphone maker during the fourth quarter of 2011, though Samsung was the top seller for the year—shipping 95 million smartphones overall to Apple’s 93 million.

While Apple’s focus is exclusively on the smartphone market, Samsung’s success seems to come from also the lower-end smartphones and feature phones that round out its portfolio. With 234 million Americans using mobile devices, and 101 million-plus with smartphones, that leaves nearly 133 million still relying on feature phones—despite carriers’ best efforts.

Feature phone dominance is indeed backed up by comScore’s findings, with top-smartphone-shipper Apple ranking behind Samsung in…………… continues on eWeek
