In the market for a budget LTE Android phone? Meet the LG F60
News from TechnologyTell:

Just so there are no misunderstandings, let me start off by rephrasing the question in the article’s headline. Is anyone in the market for a budget LTE-capable Android handheld that’s not the Moto G 4G? You know, the incredibly cheap, amazingly solid 4.5 incher Amazon sells for $ 199.99?

There is someone? Well, color me surprised then. Don’t get me wrong, the confusingly named F60 that LG just introduced has a few things going for it. But overall, it’s inferior to the G 4G, and my hunch tells me it’s going to be pricier too.

For now, LG’s mum on the subject of retail costs, merely claiming the F60 is aimed at “young and old users alike who are looking for the fastest mobile experience possible at a reasonable price”. Sounds vague enough for LG to ill-advisedly slap the F60 with, say, a $ 250 price tag.

The handheld, that’s not to be mistaken for the recently announced,

The LG VC-100 is an unannounced CDMA Smartwatch
News from Phones Review:

Wearables are slowly starting to creep into the mainstream, and we’ve seen numerous smartwatches released this year. LG was one of the first, and last month they announced a second device with the LG G Watch R. That smartwatch isn’t out yet, and we’re already looking at a third wearable from the company with a new CDMA LG smartwatch.

One of the things that impressed us about the Samsung Gear S is it’s ability to make calls sans the smartphone. That along with a curved display makes the smartwatch standout, but they will soon have some competition from LG. We don’t think it’s a “curved” device like the Gear S, but we know it will have CDMA connectivity as it’s just passed through the FCC.

The new CDMA LG smartwatch carries the model number LG VC-100 and was tested at the end of last month at the FCC. All we know from the listing is that it will have CDMA connectivity and is measures 57.7mm x 35.5mm excluding the strap. It will handl…………… continues on Phones Review

Globe Phone Test: LG’s G3 is a perfect combination of awesome and boring

Globe Phone Test: LG’s G3 is a perfect combination of awesome and boring
News from Joplin Globe:

Cars have this problem: When the basic mechanics under the hood don’t change much from model to model, it’s hard for a certain car to stand out. That’s why body styles differ so greatly.

But what about smartphones running the same OS? There are even less choices: Apple users get device choices that differ only in the amount of storage. Windows Phone users get to choose between a bigger screen or a phenomenal camera. BlackBerry users get to pick whether or not they want a keyboard.

Android smartphones offer some of the biggest differences between devices, from built-in pedometers to metallic cases. And still, there’s not much variety within that variety.

LG has released its latest flagship device, the G3. In order to stand out, LG has gone with a simple approach. Apps have been scaled back or combined for simplicity. The camera is redesigned for a one-touch approach. And for the most part, the approach works.

I tested out a G3 from AT&T for about two weeks and found it to be a good all-around device with very few quirks. The only annoyances about the phone were based on my own personal opinions.

Display dominates

Wolverton: LG’s new flagship G3 phone lacks pizazz

Wolverton: LG’s new flagship G3 phone lacks pizazz
News from San Jose Mercury News:

If Samsung represents one extreme in the move to add new bells and whistles to smartphones, LG seems to be aiming for the other end of the spectrum.

In its Galaxy S line of phones, Samsung has taken the kitchen sink approach each year by adding a host of new features, from new ways to shoot photos to new hardware elements like pulse monitors. But too often, the add-ons have been either poorly conceived or partially developed.

LG takes the opposite approach. With its new flagship smartphone, the G3, the company focuses on only a handful of new features, most of which are subtle improvements rather than flashy advances.

I like the idea, but I think LG may have carried things too far. The G3 is a good phone, but it’s not exciting.

LG G3 smartphone. (LG photo)

Like many other Android flagship phones these days, the G3 touts a jumbo-sized screen, a long-lived battery and a fast quad-core processor. But unlike those phones, the G3′s interface is relatively unmodified from standard Android. And its tw…………… continues on San Jose Mercury News

Battle of the smartwatches: LG’s G Watch, Samsung Gear Live, Samsung Gear 2 …
News from IBNLive:

New York: New Android wristwatches from Samsung and LG make a few evolutionary advances, though I won’t be rushing out to buy either.

Samsung’s Gear Live and LG’s G Watch are good products and will appeal to those who like to be among the first to own new gadgets.

ALSO SEE Android Wear review: Rather limited in what it can do now but should evolve fast

The watches serve as pedometers and let you catch up on email, texts and Facebook notifications while your phone is in your pocket or charging in the bedroom. Even with the phone in your hand, you can check messages on the watch and keep playing video on the phone.

Samsung’s Gear Live and LG’s G Watch are good products and will appeal to those who like to be among the first to own new gadgets.

Both smartwatches try to keep things simple through voice commands rather than touch. They use Google’s Android Wear system, which I reviewed earlier.

LG G3 vs Galaxy S5 head-to-head review
News from V3.co.uk:

Since Samsung launched the Galaxy S2 in 2011, its share of the Android market has been growing at a phenomenal rate. Its Korean sibling LG – despite success on other shores – always held a modest share of the UK smartphone market and has been fairly quiet until recently.

But in June, LG released probably its best smartphone to date, the G3. Yet, with Samsung having released its own flagship months before – the Galaxy S5, which has equally impressive specifications – many buyers have justifiably wondered which handset is most worth their attention and hard-earned cash.

Design and build
Both the Galaxy S5 and G3 have very different designs, despite both featuring removable polycarbonate backplates and metallic sides.

This is primarily because of the G3′s button placement. Unlike the Galaxy S5 and most other handsets, the G3′s volume and power buttons are on its back, rather tha…………… continues on V3.co.uk

Fire Phone vs. LG G3: Amazon’s big phone against LG’s spec powerhouse
News from Digital Trends:

Amazon’s highly anticipated smartphone event occurred today and the company announced its first venture in the smartphone game with the Amazon Fire Phone. Company CEO Jeff Bezos took to the stage at Fremont Studios in Seattle to highlight some of the Fire Phone’s best features and why it stands apart from the flooded sea of competitors.

Fans of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet will recognize some similarities, though the Fire Phone takes the technology further. Owners who jump to the Fire Phone during a limited time promotion will receive a free year of Amazon Prime, granting access to millions of songs, thousands of movies, and free two-day Amazon shipping. Amazon also introduced two new smartphone features: Dynamic Perspective and Firefly. Both of these are unique to the Amazon Fire Phone and have the capability to sway users from their Androids or iPhones.

Since Amazon hopes to gain ground in the smartphone market, we’ve decided to throw it up against some of the best smartphones around. So how does the Amazon Fire Phone stack up against LG’s upcoming G3 p…………… continues on Digital Trends

Review: LG G3 – androidandme.com
News from Review: LG G3 – androidandme.com:

Over the years, LG has developed a reputation for creating well-specced phones that are marred by gaudy, clunky software and poor design choices. For 2014, LG took a step back to take a look at what really needed to be done to create a great flagship. It then took that information and used it to create one of the finest flagship phones to date, the LG G3.

Last week, we gave you a review of each of the five main aspects of the LG G3 to give you an in-depth look at the phone and how it performs. Now it’s time for the big one. The full review. Read on to find out how the LG G3 stacks up in today’s competitive smartphone world.

1. Hardware

LG G3 (10)

Great hardware alone doesn’t make a great phone, but it’s nearly impossible to have a great phone without great hardware. The LG G3 excels in this department, offering one of the most impressive specs lists we’ve ever seen. LG packed the G3 to the gills with a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RA…………… continues on Review: LG G3 – androidandme.com

Asian mobile insiders say LG’s G3 will give Samsung a run for its money
News from CNET:

Insiders from smart cities in Asia tell CNET they see a serious challenger to Samsung in LG’s new flagship.

The LG G3 could be a game changer. Nate Ralph/CNET

Singapore and Hong Kong are ideal places to do canary tests on mobile phones. Both countries sell mobile phones unlocked, and have huge mobile penetration rates upwards of 150 percent — that’s at least 1.5 phones per resident.

Throw in smartphone penetration rates upwards of 87 percent for both countries, fast 4G networks and a highly mobile-centric culture which can afford pretty much any phone they desire — whatever goes on in the Singapore and Hong Kong mob…………… continues on CNET

How does LG’s supercharged G3 stack up against the best Android phones?
News from The Verge:

With LG’s official launch of the G3, all major Android manufacturers have now unveiled their flagship smartphones for 2014. HTC has the One M8, and Samsung is of course garnering the most buzz (and sales) with its Galaxy S5. In many ways, it’s a battle reminiscent of the one we saw last year when the G2, original One, and Galaxy S4 squared off. Samsung destroyed its rivals in that round — assuming you still believe the company has legitimate foes. But LG is hoping to establish its place in the smartphone race by leaping ahead on hardware specs instead of matching Samsung stride for stride as it did last year. The G3 has a gorgeous, super high-resolution display and a camera that focuses with lasers. Are these factors and others enough to help its cause and give the new flagship a chance? Let’s take a look.

Meet the G3, LG’s new flagship Android phone

Meet the G3, LG’s new flagship Android phone
News from The Week Magazine:

L

G’s new flagship Android phone, the G3, has been a poorly kept secret. Not only was a lot of information known ahead of its official debut, but screen shots of the actual device also popped up well in advance.

However, it remained to be seen how all its impressive features would fit together, and how the device would feel as a whole. Yesterday, LG finally took the wraps off the G3 and fleshed out the remaining details.

At a San Francisco live-stream of the London event, I was able to get some hands-on time with the new device and see the features in action. The point the company kept hammering home was that it is giving users high-end technology without the complexity. Each feature was mentioned in the context of simplicity and ease of use. While some features are not as simple as advertised, the effort is certainly there.

The highest-resolution screen in the U.S.
One of the headline features is the G3′s super-high-resolution screen. With 2560 x 1440 lines of resolution and 538 pixels per inch, the display is absolutely stunning. It will be the first 2k, or QuadHD, display in the United States when the device launches sometime this summer. Having such a densely packed screen on a mobile device means images pop and animation is extremely…………… continues on The Week Magazine

The first amazing LG phone (at least for me)
News from CNET:

For one CNET editor, the long road that led to LG’s new and promising G3 dates back almost 10 years ago to the still-excellent LG EnV.

The original LG EnV: still one of the best messaging keyboards LG

LG’s new G3 shows that the company is continuing to step up its smartphone game. As a longtime cell phone reviewer, and someone who hates the thought of an Apple-Samsung duopoly, I’m glad to see that happen.

Yet, there’s another reason that I’m pleased. Though LG may have been a little slower to hone its flagship phone skills than some of its rivals — it really hit its smartphone stride in 2012 with the Nexus 4 and the Optimus G — Samsung’s crosstown rival has been producing blockbuster hand…………… continues on CNET

LG’s ‘QuickCircle’ G3 case opens a window into your phone

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

LG’s ‘QuickCircle’ G3 case opens a window into your phone
News from Engadget:

LG hasn’t officially revealed the G3 yet, but its new QuickCircle case gives you a pretty good idea of what the device can do. The QuickCircle, which the South Korean company just announced, features a circular cutout in front so you can access the UI’s lock screen, take pictures, listen to music and even make calls even if you don’t open up the case. It has other things going for it other than its tiny window, as well, such as Qi wireless charging standard compatibility and a Smart Lighting feature that emits a soft glow within the cutout whenever you get a call or a message. Next month, LG’s also releasing an SDK for the case, and if you’re lucky, someone out there has a brilliant idea just waiting to be made.
