LG Wine Smart Flip Phone With Android 4.4 KitKat, Safe Keeper Launched
News from NDTV:

LG has launched a new flip phone, its first in the last 7 years, the Wine Smart. Its arch-rival and fellow South Korean firm Samsung has in the interim released numerous flip phones, such as the SM-G9098, W789, W2014 and the Galaxy Golden.

The LG Wine Smart (LG-F480) is particularly targeted at elderly users, says LG, and is being promoted as a mid-tier offering for the Korean market.

As of now, there is no word about the pricing or availability of the LG Wine Smart flip phone. Considering that the smartphone comes with Korea-specific features, it is unlikely that the flip phone might be announced outside the home country.

LG’s Wine Smart is an Android flip phone for the messaging elderly
News from Engadget:

Friends (“The One Where the Monkey Gets Away”) is on TV, Alanis Morissette is angrily screaming “You oughta know” on the radio, your bff messages you on WhatsApp. What’s the misfit in this picture? Nothing if you’re rocking LG’s Wine Smart — a rare smartphone flip phone. Nostalgia from the 90s (or, really, 2007) aside, the Wine Smart isn’t all that unusual. Sprint LG G Flex now receiving Android 4.4 KitKat
News from Phandroid.com:

After watching as the last of the LG G2′s received their updates to Android 4.4.2 KitKat last week, it’s now time to finish up work on its cousin, the LG G Flex. After the Korean model saw its KitKat upgrade back towards the end of March, followed closely by AT&T’s version on April 17th, Sprint has announced that they’ve begun rolling out the latest version of Android for their model as well. Sprint’s changelog, doesn’t divulge much, but we have to admit, it gave us a good chuckle. Brace yourselves, it’s a long one:</…………… continues on Phandroid.com

LG G3 leaks in the wild, offers first look at new rear-mounted button design
News from Phandroid.com:

It’s not much, but it appears as if we may finally have our first real look at the LG G3. An alleged leaked picture of the device in the wild is giving us a pretty clear look at the back of the device, showing off LG’s trademark rear-facing button setup. We fear the new buttons — which appear to be much more flat than they were on the G2 — could make it difficult to feel around for the buttons solely by touch, but we do like the new aluminum accents.

If you’re wondering what the black hole is on the side of the camera (opposite from the LED flash), that’s a rear facing IR blaster, a setup we also saw on the LG G Flex (image here). On a more personal note, I recently found myself moving back continues on Phandroid.com

LG G Flex review: World’s first curved smartphone is in good shape
News from The National:

When the regional manager of LG first demonstrated the G Flex phone, he did so with a bang, quite literally. Casually placing the phone screen side down, he punched it with great force, to show just how flexible and durable it was, while unintentionally showing that the world’s first curved phone can also be used as a weapon.

Despite the spectacle, it still did not occur to me why anyone would need a curved phone, but after a week with the device it became clear.

If you like carrying your phone in the back pocket of your jeans, the G Flex slips in comfortably, without bulging out or poking into your posterior when you sit. It really is quite ergonomic when it comes to this aspect and given its ability to withstand a Korean punch, it should also withstand your weight.

As smartphones are becoming increasingly larger in size, those with smaller heads are struggling to be heard when making phone calls. A friend of mine who recently switched to the Nokia Lumia 1520 has resorted to…………… continues on The National

KitKat for the Verizon LG G2 now rolling out over the air
News from Phandroid.com:

After reporting yesterday that the KitKat update for the Verizon Wireless LG G2 was finally ready — but only accessible via LG’s installer for Windows PCs — that same update is now officially available and rolling out over the air. If you haven’t been prompted (and don’t feel like hassling with plugging in/installing extra software), you can now jump into your Settings > About phone > Software update > Check new > to pull the update on your G2 manually.

Having rolled out for all other major US carriers), Verizon’s LG G2 finally joins its brothers and sisters in the winners circle. Aside from bringing all the usual KitKat…………… continues on Phandroid.com

LG G3 Mini leaked in documentation
News from Phones Review:

Leaks about the upcoming flagship LG G3 have been abundant just lately, and if you’re wondering this will come in a mini version then you might just be in luck. A handset with model number LG D725 has been spotted in a leaked document, and it’s thought that this is the LG G3 Mini.

It does seem rather early for an LG G3 Mini to be touted as the LG G2 Mini has only just arrived on the scene. However, we do see a lot of devices leak out in this way so of course this could be the real deal. The LG G3 Mini is codenamed the B2 mini, with the LG G3 being codenamed the B2, and the new leaked documentation shows the B2 Mini as model LG D725 and gives up a few specs.

If we’re to believe this evidence the LG G3 has a 720p display (size unknown), and an 8-megapixel camera with stills shots of up to 3264 x 2248 pixel resolution. It will be running Android 4.4.2 KitKat skinned with the Optimus UI. The leak shows a version for AT&T, but we’d anticipate a release on all of the major US carriers as the LG G3 is expected to.

There’s no news yet on a possible release date for the LG G3 Mini, although the LG G3 is rumored to be on the way to a July

LG L90 packs quad-core and Android KitKat

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014

LG L90 packs quad-core and Android KitKat
News from CNET:

LG’s phone-crafting factories have cranked out yet another smart phone — this one’s a mid-range, mid-size mobile running the latest version of Android.

The L90 is the fanciest of LG’s third-generation L Series mobiles, and can be seen on the far-left in the image above. L Series phones aren’t quite as bleeding-edge as the high-end G Series mobiles, but should have a more reasonable price tag to match.

The L90 doesn’t skimp on power, with a 1.2GHz quad-core chip humming away under the hood. As the only of LG’s new L Series mobiles to feature a four-core processor, this should make the L90 feel speedy to use, and capable of the odd graphically intensive game. Fingers crossed.

The display measures 4.7 inches on the diagonal, and sports a reasonable 960×540 pixel resolution. If you’re not a fan of palm-filling 5-inch-plus mobiles, this more modestly sized phone could appeal.

LG has packed in 1GB of RAM, as well as an 8-megapixel rear camera. A camera’s megapixel-count is rarely an indicator of photo quality though, so stay tuned until we can give the L90′s snapper the full review treatment.

Often mid-range phones don’t get treated to the latest version of Android, so we’re happy to see the L90 is running Android 4.4 KiKat right from the outset. KitKat is the most advanced edition of Google…………… continues on CNET

LG G2 Mini packs in quad-core and KitKat, but cuts some crucial corners
News from CNET:

LG’s new G2 Mini comes in black, white, red and gold.

(Credit: LG)

Most smartphone makers seem to have got the message that we don’t all want 5-inch-plus monster mobiles. But where some have taken it to heart, producing smaller phones with all the power of their big-boned brethren, others are making low-power ‘mini’ variants that are frankly disappointing.

LG looks like it’s plumping for the latter strategy with the G2 Mini, a compact 4.7-inch Android phone with all the glitzy style of the admirable G2 — but much less impressive hardware.

Its screen ekes out a fairly meager 960×540 pixels over those 4.7 inches, for a density of 234 pixels per inch. That’s nowhere near the retina quality of the best screens on the market.

Where the G2 packs a mighty 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 80…………… continues on CNET

LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update could begin late January; here’s a quick video …
News from Phandroid.com:

With Samsung beginning to upgrade their devices to Android 4.4 KitKat and HTC expected to do the same at some point soon, those in the LG camp were probably beginning to wonder when the upgrade would come out to the LG G2.

Thankfully, LG Saudi Arabia has shed some much needed light on that timeline. Folks in that region are in line to get it starting at the end of this month, according to the company’s Twitter page (though the post has since been deleted). South Korean users have already gotten it, though they are often first in line for everything considering that’s LG’s home turf.

We imagine they won’t be the one and only region to be enjoying it, so it’s probably safe to assume LG will start rolling it out in other regions to unlocked handsets from that time. Nothing’s certain, though, so don’t put too much stock into that. You should note that LG only ever promised to…………… continues on Phandroid.com

LG G Pro Lite Review: Is It The Best Mid-Range Android Phone?
News from Gizmodo India:

LG G Pro Lite seems like a decent attempt by LG to provide a larger display device at an affordable price, although it is slightly downgraded on the hardware side, but still performs decent when it comes to day to day usage.

What is it?

A smartphone little bit bigger than regular 5 inchers that we have in the market. For the fact LG G Pro Lite sports a 5.5 inch display but comes with slightly lower screen resolution of 540 x 960 qHD with a pixel density of nearly 200 pixels per inch. On the hardware front, it comes powered with Dual Core 1 GHz processor based on Cortex A9 architecture, 1 GB of RAM, 8 MP AF Rear Camera, 1.3 MP Fixed focus front camera. There is 8 GB of built in memory and it can be expanded further to up to 32GB card through a microSD card. It’s backed by big 3140 mAh battery runs on 4.2.1 Jelly bean.

Who is it for?

For all those who need an affordable well known branded phablet to use, it should not cost them a bomb and it should come with decent hardware specifications.

Design

LG G Pro Lite looks good and but does not create any distinctive image in terms of the design. In terms of placement of touch capacitive buttons it follows the old layout which we have seen in some budgets android phones from LG in the past. It looks like any other plastic…………… continues on Gizmodo India

Hands On With the LG Fireweb Firefox Phone
News from PC Magazine:

The latest low-cost Firefox phone raises the processor bar, but keeps things basic.

LAS VEGASMozilla is aiming its line of Firefox phones at emerging markets, promising smartphone power at sub-smartphone prices. The latest entry, the LG Fireweb, is a bigger, faster Firefox phone, but still keeps prices down. We go hands on at CES.

The LG Fireweb is a boxy, squarish phone, with a 1GHz processor, 4-inch, 320-by-480 screen and 5-megapixel camera. That gives it a leg up on the earlier ZTE Open, but it’s still a lower-resolution screen than I’m used to seeing at this size. It’s a 3G phone on AT&T’s bands, and it has GPS and a built-in FM radio.
