LG G Flex2 Curved Phone to Launch on January 30; Official Price Revealed
News from NDTV:

LG Electronics Inc. says it will start selling its latest curved smartphone in South Korea next week.

The Korean company said Thursday that the G Flex2 will be launched locally on January 30 and overseas in the coming months. LG has priced the G Flex2 at KRW 800,000 (roughly Rs. 45,400), in-line with the Amazon Germany listing last week at EUR 599 (approximately Rs. 44,076).

The smartphone is LG’s latest effort to expand the use of curved screens as a way of differentiating its smartphones from those of competitors.

When LG released its first version of a curved smartphone in 2013, it was a niche product. The latest iteration shows …………… continues on NDTV

Revenge of the clamshell: LG may be working on an Android flip phone
News from TechRadar:

We see a lot of phone leak rumours on our beat, but this one has really got us talking: it’s a retro-looking LG flip phone that seems to be running some version of Android.

If you’ve been pining for the old-fashioned form factor but want some modern software to go with it, this could be your dream handset. You can snap it shut with a flourish after calls as if it’s 2005.

LG actually already has a clamshell phone on the market, but only in South Korea – the LG Wine Smart broke cover last September and you can’t pick it up anywhere outside of LG’s home country.

The good old days?

We don’t know too much about this new phone apart from what’s shown in the picture, which comes courtesy of @upleaks. Ice Cream Smart is the mooted name and the Android software looks very much like the OS running on LG’s other handsets (albeit shrunk down to fit a smaller screen).

Last year’s Wine Smart has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 LCD display. There’s also an 8-megapixel rear facing camera. It’s a…………… continues on TechRadar

LG G2 Android 4.4 KitKat update could begin late January; here’s a quick video …
News from Phandroid.com:

With Samsung beginning to upgrade their devices to Android 4.4 KitKat and HTC expected to do the same at some point soon, those in the LG camp were probably beginning to wonder when the upgrade would come out to the LG G2.

Thankfully, LG Saudi Arabia has shed some much needed light on that timeline. Folks in that region are in line to get it starting at the end of this month, according to the company’s Twitter page (though the post has since been deleted). South Korean users have already gotten it, though they are often first in line for everything considering that’s LG’s home turf.

We imagine they won’t be the one and only region to be enjoying it, so it’s probably safe to assume LG will start rolling it out in other regions to unlocked handsets from that time. Nothing’s certain, though, so don’t put too much stock into that. You should note that LG only ever promised to…………… continues on Phandroid.com

LG G Pro Lite Review: Is It The Best Mid-Range Android Phone?
News from Gizmodo India:

LG G Pro Lite seems like a decent attempt by LG to provide a larger display device at an affordable price, although it is slightly downgraded on the hardware side, but still performs decent when it comes to day to day usage.

What is it?

A smartphone little bit bigger than regular 5 inchers that we have in the market. For the fact LG G Pro Lite sports a 5.5 inch display but comes with slightly lower screen resolution of 540 x 960 qHD with a pixel density of nearly 200 pixels per inch. On the hardware front, it comes powered with Dual Core 1 GHz processor based on Cortex A9 architecture, 1 GB of RAM, 8 MP AF Rear Camera, 1.3 MP Fixed focus front camera. There is 8 GB of built in memory and it can be expanded further to up to 32GB card through a microSD card. It’s backed by big 3140 mAh battery runs on 4.2.1 Jelly bean.

Who is it for?

For all those who need an affordable well known branded phablet to use, it should not cost them a bomb and it should come with decent hardware specifications.

Design

LG G Pro Lite looks good and but does not create any distinctive image in terms of the design. In terms of placement of touch capacitive buttons it follows the old layout which we have seen in some budgets android phones from LG in the past. It looks like any other plastic…………… continues on Gizmodo India

LG Prada 3.0 phone coming in January
News from Techwatch:

A fashionable device with matching colour scheme, interface and accessories

Fashionable types rejoice, for LG is bringing out a new model of Prada smartphone.

The third such offering, the LG Prada 3.0 is an Android phone which seeks to provide a blend of functionality and elegance. And a name you can drop like a ten tonne lead weight into the middle of conversations.

“The iPhone? Oh it’s so yesterday, dahling…”

The handset is done out in classic black with a Prada “Saffiano” (textured print) decoration on the rear.

It’s also slimline at 8.5mm thick and minimalist with the display covering most of the front, with only a small area reserved for a minimal amount of physical buttons.

Even the interface is colour coordinated, done out in a trendy noir style, being black and white with shades of grey. Minimalist is very definitely the word du jour. The underlying OS is Android Gingerbread, but an upgrade to…………… continues on Techwatch

  • Testing and Conclusions

Republic Wireless, a new cell phone carrier startup from VoIP provider Bandwidth.com, is offering what seems like an unbeatable bargain: $ 199 for an LG Optimus S smartphone up front, plus $ 19 per month for unlimited voice calls, period. The catch: You must use Wi-Fi networks as your primary means of calling, with cellular available as a backup. Unfortunately, the reality of this plan doesn’t measure up to the promise—at least not yet.
