LG announces 4 new phones ahead of Mobile World Congress, the G4 isn’t one …
News from PC Pro:

LG may well be unleasing its new flagship smartphone, the LG G4, at Mobile World Congress, but ahead of the March show it’s announced that it’ll be launching four new mid-range smartphones.

Known as the Magna, Spirit, Leon and Joy, LG’s new smartphones build on “LG’s design language to bring optimised performance and effortless user experience to a broader range of consumers,” says an LG press release. PR-speak aside, this means these four new phones, available in both 4G and 3G versions, will be built to premium specifications, but offered at affordable prices.

The Magna features a 5in HD display with 294ppi, a 1.2GHz Quad-core processor, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB of internal storage, and 1GB of RAM. It comes with a 2,540mAh removable battery, placing it in a similar range to the upcoming Samsung S6 in terms of capacity. It’s also the largest of the four new phones on offe…………… continues on PC Pro

LG unveils its most human phone ever…but body morphing isn’t on the cards for …
News from The Drum:

LG has unveiled the LG G Flex, a curved smartphone which it describes as its ‘most human phone ever’.

Created by SuperHeroes Amsterdam, the ad shows Dan celebrating his birthday over dinner, receiving a phone from his friends. The phone, however, is strangely human.

Rogier Vijverberg, creative director and founder of SuperHeroes, said: “Our mission is to bring out the superpower in anyone and anything. How awesome would it be if your phone could morph into your body? You would never drop it down the toilet again for a start. It really excites us to work with such brave innovators as LG, who are not afraid to challenge the realms of possibility.”

Lenneke Sigmond, marketing manager mobile at LG Electronics Benelux, added: “LG brings innovation with a wink and a smile. The LG G Flex’s amazing design and technology inspires everyone to think about what’s really coming next.”

As well as a curved screen, the LG G Flex features a ‘self-healing’ back cover.

LG G Pro 2 review: new year, new Note contender – Engadget
News from LG G Pro 2 review: new year, new Note contender – Engadget:

The large-screen smartphone market is now one of the most fiercely competitive in the wireless industry. But even though nearly every phone maker has produced a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note, only a handful of products have actually been worth considering. LG’s Optimus G Pro, a 5.5-inch flagship introduced last year, was one such exception. A year later, its 5.9-inch successor picks up where the first Pro left off, adding enough extra firepower to take on the Galaxy Note 3 spec for spec. The LG G Pro 2 may very well have what it takes to stand up against its big-screen rival, but it’ll have to overcome a few minor obstacles in order to succeed.

Verizon’s LG G2 Gets A Software Update (VS98012B) That Isn’t Android 4.4
News from Android Police:

Like it says right up there in the title, don’t get your hopes up. The latest over-the-air update to the Verizon version of the LG G2 in not an updated version of Android, and it won’t get rid of those awful front-facing logos, either. But it does have a few much-needed bug fixes and security additions, plus it should smooth out some of the wrinkles in the initial release of LG’s customized software.

Here’s the changelog for software version, straight from the horse’s mouth (PDF link):

  • Video playback quality has been improved when viewing on websites
  • Dialing *611 will now appear on device screen
  • TalkBack reads each deleted letter when using Messaging Keyboard
  • Backup Assistant Plus resumes syncing after completing a voice call
  • Device lockups have been reduced
  • Viewdini application has been removed
  • Verizon Cloud app is now preloaded
  • Messaging is now supported via QSlide

LG proves the QWERTY isn’t dead as F3Q leaks for T-Mobile
News from Phandroid.com:

The physical QWERTY keyboard will live to see another day thanks to LG. Their upcoming F3Q handset for T-Mobile has leaked, revealing what looks to be a midrange handset along the lines of the LG Optimus F3. That device landed with the carrier earlier this year.

The Optimus F3 features a 4-inch display at 800×480 resolution, dual-core processor, and 5MP camera. The F3Q looks to be more of the same, save for the addition of a five-row QWERTY keyboard.

A closer look at LG’s curved G Flex smartphone
News from The Verge:

We got a chance to check out LG’s first-ever curved smartphone, the G Flex, last month at an event in South Korea, but LG has now brought the phone to the US for us to see it. It’s the same Korean model we saw earlier, with its massive 6-inch, 720p display, but LG also showed off some of the individual components broken down so we could see what goes into the phone’s construction. We got to see the bendable display, which can flex quite a bit more on its own than it can once encased inside the phone. We were also able to see the non-removable battery, which is both curved and can flex just like the display. LG’s Dr. Ramchan Woo also told us that the glass on the front is made quite thin to allow it to bend along with the rest of the phone. LG said that the phone was tested and could stand 88 pounds of pressure repeated 100 times without deforming.

Dr. Woo also gave a few details on…………… continues on The Verge
