Rumor: LG hopes to catch up to Apple with fingerprint sensor in next-gen …
News from Apple Insider:

LG Electronics is reportedly testing a prototype version of the next generation of its flagship G-series smartphones that will allegedly include a swipe-based fingerprint sensor, countering the Touch ID capability of Apple’s iPhone 5s.

The so-called “G3″ from LG is said to currently be in testing, according to a report published this week by The Korea Herald. The next-generation Android handset is reportedly expected to debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, scheduled for February of 2014.

However, unlike Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded in the iPhone 5s home button, which allows a user to simply place their finger on the scanner, LG’s method “would likely come as a swipe fingerprint sensor,” the report said. That would suggest that LG has been unable to replicate the patented, unique

LG G2 starts getting Android 4.4 Kitkat
News from AndroidPIT.com:

Earlier this month, LG announced on its Korean sites that owners of the LG G2 in South Korea would be getting Android 4.4 Kitkat sometime this month. It seems as if that some time is now because the new operating system from Google is being sent over the air to owners of the G2 in South Korea. One report coming out of South Korea says that the carrier KT is sending the update out sequentially, although it did not mention if this was being done from purchase date, cell phone model number or some other piece of data. The Kitkat update comes at about 637 megabytes.

Owners of the phone in the Great White North are expected to have the update at some point during the first quarter of the coming year.

The handset is one of the most powerful ones out this year and is right up there in terms of performance with the HTC One, the Nexus 5, and the Samsung Galaxy S4. There is also some speculation that a mini version of the phon…………… continues on AndroidPIT.com

LG pins hopes on flagship, $ 900 Optimus G smartphone
News from Fox News:

LG Electronics will launch the Optimus G smartphone next week in South Korea, pinning high hopes on the new Android device to help revive its loss-making mobile business.

LG said Tuesday that the Optimus G will go on sale in Japan next month and in the U.S. in November. That would put LG’s new phone, which costs $ 894 without subsidies from operators in South Korea, in competition with Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy Note II smartphones during the fall and the winter holidays.

Previous Optimus smartphones have failed to make a mark in the fastest-growing segment of the mobile phone market. LG’s mobile division posted losses of nearly 1 trillion won ($ 895 million) in 2010 and 2011 combined.

LG’s mobile chief said the company hopes the G smartphone will help accelerate the division’s turnaround.

‘The Optimus G is our flagship phone — with a competitive edge.’

- Park Jong-seok, LG’s mobile business president

“The Optimus G is our flagship phone with a competitive edge,” Park Jong-seok, LG’s mobile business president, told reporters at a media event. “We are trying to make phones differentiated from our rivals.”

LG Electronics Inc. was the world’s third-largest handset maker before being overtaken by Apple in…………… continues on Fox News

LG’s latest smartphone, the Intuition ($ 199.99 direct) is a behemoth. It’s not for everyone—and that’s by design. Verizon’s first phablet-sized phone, the Intuition goes up against the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note II. It’s great for reading, Web browsing, and taking notes, and the oversize screen is a pleasure to use. But thanks to several flaws, the Intuition is tougher to recommend as a general purpose smartphone.
