Hands-on with the LG G Flex
News from Gizmag:

The new LG G Flex is billed as the “world’s first curved, flexible smartphone,” but once you get your hands on one it becomes clear right away that only half of that line is really true for practical purposes. It is a beautiful, sleek and powerful phone with an elegant curve to it, and yes, it does have a flexible display, but that display has been set in a rigid case that prevents it from actually flexing.

Not that I was able to even try. At the G Flex station of LG’s booth for CES 2014, the first caveat the company’s marketing folks passed on before talking about any of the phone’s positive attributes was a disclosure that it doesn’t actually flex or bend. LG’s promotional website for the G Flex claims it can be forced into a flat position “for a limited period of time only,” but warns against attempting to bend it inward or twist.

Instead, the majority of the pitch for the G Flex is about the advantages of its curved screen, which is just slightly concave, and vaguely mimics the curve of old-school landline handsets. LG’s people told me that thi…………… continues on Gizmag

Hands-on with the LG Motion 4G

Hands-on with the LG Motion 4G
News from CNET:

We take the tiny yet scrappy Android 4.0, 4G LTE phone for a spin.

August 21, 2012 3:45 PM PDT

Finding a satisfying Android phone on a prepaid carrier is getting easier every day. case in point, the new LG Motion 4G for Metro PCS. This pint-size $ 149.99 handset features Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 3.5-inch screen, and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, plus 4G LTE data.

Design

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an Android phone as compact as the LG Motion 4G. The handset is so small, in fact it took a while to get used to the way my fingers wrap completely around its plastic frame. Weighing a solid 4.48 ounces though, the Motion 4G has a dense feel that belies its tiny stature. Also, while I can’t say the device oozes luxury, it does convey a sturdiness that is comforting. Too bad it’s not crafted from metal, my preferred smartphone material, like the HTC One V (Virgin Mobile).

Next Nexus Phones Coming From LG, Sony, and Samsung?
News from Droid Life:

According to a report out of Android Noodles, a document showing the winter roadmap for Japan’s Docomo, lists out three (3) different Nexus devices. The three manufacturers on their list are Samsung, LG, and Sony. The report mentions a 3-column table that references the three devices, however, no picture or further proof was provided.

What we do know, is that a report out of the Wall Street Journal back in May suggested that Google wanted to have more than one Nexus partner this year and had opened up the program to at least 5 different OEMs. So if Docomo has three Nexus devices on their winter roadmap, and Asus already released the Nexus 7, we are certainly on our way to matching that previous report.

Also, we saw a Samsung device by the model number GT-I9260 with “Nexus” attached to it, this morning.

At this point, we can only consider this rumor until more hard evidence comes out. We have seen LG mentioned in Nexus conversations for some…………… continues on Droid Life

LG Optimus 4X HD hands-on from CTIA
News from Android Community:

LG’s latest flagship made its American debut here at CTIA 2012, and we couldn’t resist taking another peek. The Optimus 4X HD crams the best of LG’s mobile technology into a superphone form factor that takes on the likes of the HTC One X, and not just because it’s also using an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. The phone is scheduled for release in South Korea and Europe this summer.

The phone is LG’s first quad-core device and it’s first phone to launch with Ice Cream Sandwich, though it’s got a similar skin to the ones displayed on previous LG Android phones. The 4.7-inch display naturally uses LG’s 720p IPS panel, making for a brilliant and accurate view. 16GB of on-board storage compliments an 8MP rear camera and 1.3MP front-facing camera. The phone is an impressively slinky 8.9mm.

Check out the video hands-on below:

The Optimus 4X HD hasn’t been confirmed for an American release, but LG phones tend to get several months of delay between European/Asian and US releases. A more interesting question is whether or not the 4X HD will remain LG’s flagship in the interim. Just after Samsung’s Galaxy S III event last week, LG

Microsoft ‘Smoked By Windows Phone’: The Real Story
News from InformationWeek:

If we believe Microsoft’s latest pitch, its “Smoked By Windows Phone” marketing stunt (in which it bets people $ 100 that Windows Phone is faster than their non-Windows phones) has been a huge success. Microsoft delivered a ton of specs regarding the smartphone ploy Tuesday, but the numbers don’t tell the real story.

Microsoft’s win rate is 98%. In the 50,675 challenges that have been taken, Microsoft has lost 638 times to “other phones.” (Microsoft doesn’t say which phones it lost to, which is a shame.) Those 50,000 challenges have taken place at CES, Mobile World Congress, and Microsoft stores in the United States, as well as various locations in 36 other countries.

Of course, what Microsoft considers a “win” isn’t necessarily what consumers say are wins. Microsoft ran into a flap last month when some consumers accused Microsoft’s employees of rigging the challenges in Microsoft’s favor–in addition to not honoring what the p…………… continues on InformationWeek

Lucid by LG hands-on and unboxing
News from Android Community:

The latest phone to grace Verizon Wireless is finally here. This is the Lucid by LG with 4G LTE and a dual-core processor all for one low price. This phone comes in a neat little package and will be available starting tomorrow. Lucky for you we have it on the test bench and did a quick hands-on and unboxing to start things off, and will be taking it through the trenches over the next few days.

The Lucid by LG is the latest phone to be powered by Verizon 4G LTE, but as they said a few weeks ago, all smartphones in 2012 will be LTE capable. The Lucid is poised to compete in the mid-range market based on its price but the specs are near the top of the pack. It comes with a cute little design and a powerful dual-core processor. The specs include a 4-inch IPS display complete with a 480 x 800 resolution, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a micro-sd slot to expand storage should you choose.

With a plastic design and rounded edges all around it feels comfortable in the hand and has no square corners to cause discom…………… continues on Android Community

Hands-On With The LG Spectrum: So Last Year

Hands-On With The LG Spectrum: So Last Year
News from TechCrunch:

Here at CES 2012, phones are a bit in short supply. At least, new phones are. LG is one of the few companies to officially announce a new smartphone at the show, and I have to say it’s one of the best phones we’ve seen out of LG. Unfortunately, that still leaves the Spectrum quite a ways behind some of the other new phones we’ve seen recently like the Xperia S, Titan 2, or the Galaxy Nexus (of course).

The real stand-out feature here is the 4.5-inch 720p display with a True HD Graphic Engine and Corning Gorilla glass, boasting 326ppi. The phone also touts Verizon’s 4G LTE, which is mostly solid unless it’s December.

The Spectrum has a .4-inch waist line, and a glossy back panel which is a far cry from the more premium feel of the LG Nitro HD. What’s odd is that the Spectrum is actually meant to be an equally high-end phone, but takes prints so poorly and is so obviously plastic that it feels kind of cheap.

Under the hood you’ll find a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of on-board memory, and 1GB of RAM. The phone also comes with…………… continues on TechCrunch

LG on the Fence Still With Intel Medfield Phones, Tablets
News from Gotta Be Mobile:

Phone- and tablet-maker LG is still undecided about the prospect of utilizing Intel’s mobile Medfield chipset on its smartphones and tablets. LG has previously been using ARM-based processors on its devices, and the switch to Intel’s Atom-based Medfield CPU is still up in the air right now despite the fact that LG was among the first out of the gate with a conceptual prototype of a Medfield smartphone several years ago that was coupled with Intel’s then Moblin OS, which has been transitioned to MeeGo and now to Tizen.

LG Proof-of-Concept Medfield GW990 Phone with Moblin OS.

A few years ago at CES, LG had demonstrated the GW990, which had an ultra-wide display aspect ratio of 21:9, rather than the 16:9 common on many Android phones today. The company did not commercialize the GW990 and says that it was only a proof-of-concept device.

Prior to CES, there were speculations that LG would partner with Intel to debut some Medfield devices, but that did not materialize at this year’s show. Instead,

Prada phone by LG 3.0 hands-on (video)
News from engadget:

This is the latest fruit to be borne from LG and Prada’s renewed creative partnership. It’s Prada Phone by LG 3.0 and it’s also an attempt to marry fashion pedigree with, if not leading technological specifications, then at least competitive ones. There’s a respectable 8 megapixel autofocus camera, and LG’s bright, outdoor-friendly 4.3-inch NOVA display, here projecting an 800 x 480 WVGA touchscreen. It wears its Prada branding on its sleeve, and the fashion label’s creative input has even gone so far as to affect the Android OS, with understated black and white themes papered over the cheerful — in comparison — Gingerbread interface.
