Nexus 5 2015 release date in October? LG’s phone gets rumor mills going
News from ChristianToday:

Google/Nexus

The Nexus 5, which will reportedly share its name with this year’s latest Google phone.

Google follows a trend of releasing a new phone each year. This time, it’s the Google/ LG Nexus 5 that’s being put on the spotlight.

The Google phone of 2015, according to PC Advisor UK, is just right around the corner. However, it’s not exactly sure if what is dubbed as the Nexus 5 2015 is really a Nexus 5 — the name has aready been used, along with Nexus 4, 6, and 7. Nevertheless, there are plenty of speculations on what the upcoming device will have to offer.

The PC Advisor article reports that both LG and Huawei are each doing a version of the device, but somehow, it appears that the LG-Nexus will have 5.2-inch HD P-OLED screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM with memory expandable up to 64 GB, front-facing speakers, and a 13- and 4-megapixel camera combo. News from Phone Arena:

Aiming to get to the level of Samsung, Apple, and Huawei, LG has also been making its baby steps on the chipset scene, aiming to design its own smartphone chipset. Its NUCLUN chip barely made it outside South Korea as it was allegedly overheating; subsequently, rumors about another LG-made chipset surfaced, claiming that LG is aiming at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810.

A new rumor just hit us, claiming that LG is preparing a second generation of the NUCLUN chipset. This time around, the rumor mill has it that the NUCLUN 2 will be gunning for Samsung’s top-tier Exynos 7420 chipset, which can be found on the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, and Note5 (it’s also rumored that the high-end

Verizon’s LG G2 Gets A Software Update (VS98012B) That Isn’t Android 4.4
News from Android Police:

Like it says right up there in the title, don’t get your hopes up. The latest over-the-air update to the Verizon version of the LG G2 in not an updated version of Android, and it won’t get rid of those awful front-facing logos, either. But it does have a few much-needed bug fixes and security additions, plus it should smooth out some of the wrinkles in the initial release of LG’s customized software.

Here’s the changelog for software version, straight from the horse’s mouth (PDF link):

  • Video playback quality has been improved when viewing on websites
  • Dialing *611 will now appear on device screen
  • TalkBack reads each deleted letter when using Messaging Keyboard
  • Backup Assistant Plus resumes syncing after completing a voice call
  • Device lockups have been reduced
  • Viewdini application has been removed
  • Verizon Cloud app is now preloaded
  • Messaging is now supported via QSlide

Future LG Phones to Launch With BBM Pre-installed, Gets Baked Into the G Pro …
News from Droid Life:

LG and BlackBerry announced a new deal this morning, that will have BBM come pre-installed on upcoming devices from the Korean manufacturer, starting with the G Pro Lite. According to BlackBerry, this will help phone buyers access one of the world’s premier mobile communication services. The app sure has come a long way since being delayed time and time again on Android, so we think its good that BlackBerry has been able to squeeze a bit more life out of this service.

Kevin Shin, Vice President of Marketing for Asia for LG spoke on the deal, saying that the G Pro Lite is the perfect device to take advantage of BlackBerry’s messaging service.

LG Optimus G Gets New Update, Enhancement Mod

LG Optimus G Gets New Update, Enhancement Mod
News from International Business Times AU:

LG Optimus G on Sprint is set to receive a minor update patch via OTA, which the U.S. telco said has started rolling out, to improve certain features of the phone and solve previously reported bugs.

That’s good news matched with a bad news. Sprint has yet to dispatch JellyBean for the LG smartphone following its earlier pledge for a December release. It appears that the promise will not be fulfilled this January.

What LG Optimus G owners are firmware tweaks that will enhance the phone’s Visual Voicemail feature and stretch its battery life. This update will also fix the freezing and reset problems experience d by Optimus G users, connected apparently to YouTube use.

It is also expected that Wi-Fi problems will be dealt with by the patch, which will bump up the LG phone to build LS970ZV9.

The update process is now on live status and Optimus G owners should automatically get the prompt to trigger the action anytime soon. But those who can hardly wait have the option to get the update file manually. Simply tap the Settings, scroll down to About Phone and then check for software upgrade.

If the download is there for delivery, authorise the action and make sure to follow the instruction for the procedure to wrap up without glitch. It’s best to do upgrade on a fully-charged handset to avoid i…………… continues on International Business Times AU

LG Prada 3.0 gets Android 4 ICS update, in Italy and Germany at least
News from Android Authority:

What’s a fashion phone to do when it’s getting fashionably late to the ICS party?

We don’t have to look for the answer, because LG has started to roll out the promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the LG P940 Prada 3.0 phone. According to the company’s international blog, the ICS upgrade is available for owners of the Prada 3.0 in Germany and Italy. Furthermore, it’s only available for unlocked phones that aren’t tied to any carrier in the respective countries. It’s possible that it will come to more countries soon.

To get the Android 4.0.4 update for your phone, you’ll have to download LG Mobile Phone support tool, which is available only for Windows. Once you’ve installed the application and the necessary USB driver for the phone, connect your Prada to the PC via USB and check for the ICS update. In no time at all, you’ll be running the not-so-latest fashionable mobile OS in town, no thanks to Jelly Bean.

Aside from ICS, you’ll also find a new QuickMemo app installed, which is a note-taking app that can be handily activated by pressing both volume buttons at the same time. You can then save and easily share the note via email or to various social networks.

If you’re not in the two countries listed above, it’s worth checking for th…………… continues on Android Authority

TELUS LG Optimus 7 gets Tango update, fixes numerous bugs

The TELUS LG Optimus 7 was one of the first Windows Phones released in Canada released in October 2010, but it’s always been one of the first to get updated. Like the Rogers Lumia 710, which received the Tango update a few days ago, the Optimus 7 has received an initial rollout of the upgrade.

According to TELUS, there are MMS enhancements and numerous stability improvements, alongside the requisite “disappearing keyboard bug” fix that was introduced with Mango.

To receive the update, plug in your device and open Zune or Windows Phone Connector and check for a notification. Microsoft will be rolling out the update over the next few weeks, so if you don’t have it yet check back in a few days. If you’ve received it, let us know what you think!

StraightTalk To Add Verizon-Powered LG Enlighten Android …
News from PhoneNews.com:

Not one to rest on its laurels, StraightTalk will be adding another Verizon-powered Android smartphone to its lineup in the coming weeks with the stealth confirmation that it will launch the LG Enlighten entry-level Android smartphone within the next few weeks with the. This will be the prepaid operator’s second Verizon-powered smartphone following the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim last month mere weeks after the Verizon launch.

The Enlighten as launched on Verizon last year features Android Gingerbread, a 3.5 inch display and a sliding hardware QWERTY keyboard underpinned by an 800MHz Qualcomm Scorpion processor based off of the higher-end Snapdragon core with full support for Flash 10 despite Adobe abandoning further development for mobile devices.

With the Samsung Proclaim experiencing unexpected levels of popularity to the point that the phone is currently sold out online, StraightTalk may be looking to diversify its Android lineup and take full advantage of its newly revived agreement with Verizon Wireless, as its current $ 45 unlimited service rate greatly undercuts the carrier’s own $ 80 rate for smartphones on prepaid while offering a higher data allowance per month at 4GB with the same level of coverage, since Verizon restricts prepaid smartphone…………… continues on PhoneNews.com

LG Optimus 4X HD gets benchmarked

LG Optimus 4X HD gets benchmarked
News from Android Community:

LG’s newest flagship the Optimus 4X HD is still a few weeks out, but that hasn’t stopped a few industrious geeks from giving the phone the benchmark treatment. Greek site TechBlog.gr put the quad-core phone through its paces and posted the results for gadget hounds everywhere. The conclusions aren’t that surprising – they’re right in line with our own tests of the HTC One X, the first phone to sport NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor – but any speed demons out there will be wanting to compare and contrast the numbers.

For the standard Quadrant benchmark test, the Optimus 4X HD scored 4,512 – just a bit better than the HTC One X. For the AnTuTu benchmark (which seems to favor multi-core processors) the phone got a score of 11,147, just under 10% better than the One X. Both phones use 1GB of RAM, so the discrepancy on the tests is likely due to some of the extra software involved in HTC’s Sense 4.0. LG also has a custom skin on Android, but it’s far less intensive. Both phones are running Android 4.0. Remember that there’s a considerable margin on error in both…………… continues on Android Community

Will the mysterious D1L project provide the makeover LG needs to challenge the …
News from Digitaltrends.com:

LG needs to reassert its position as a driving force in Android smartphone development, following a difficult 2011 and Samsung’s rapid rise to the top. Could the mysterious D1L project be the smartphone to do so?

LG is at a crucial point in its history, as according to figures released by the company earlier in the year, it’s phone division posted its first profits for eighteen months at the end of 2011.

This may be surprising to some, as LG holds second place in the US mobile market share charts, and fourth in the world, so it could hardly be described as a small fish.

The profit shown during the final three months of 2011 wasn’t enough to stop ZTE moving ahead of them in the final quarter’s figures though, with LG taking 3.6-percent of worldwide device sales, and ZTE grabbing 4-percent to take fourth position behind Apple, Samsung and Nokia.

AT&T’s LG Thrill gets an update – to Android 2.3

AT&T’s LG Thrill gets an update – to Android 2.3
News from Android Community:

The HTC Vivid has Ice Cream Sandwich! Ten other phones and tablets are getting it too! It’s like software updates are eggs and AT&T’s the Easter bunny! The latest bit of news is that the LG Thrill is getting an update – too bad it’s just Gingerbread. Yes, the forlorn high-end phone has been running Froyo officially all this time, and now (a mere 15 months after Gingerbread became available and almost a year to the day after the phone was announced) it’s finally getting an update to Android 2.3. Thrill owners, try to contain your joy – this has got to be like being the one kid who found his egg rotten.

AT&T’s Thrill 4G is a rebranded version of the Optimus 3D, a respectable phone even by today’s standards. A 1Ghz dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM should make Gingerbread fly, even with LG’s custom skin running on top. The phone is one of just a handful of models that can display lenticular glasses-free 3D on its 4.3-inch, 800×480 LCD screen. 8GB of storage space is alright, but AT&T als…………… continues on Android Community

Huawei Pinnacle (MetroPCS)
News from CNET:

Huawei Pinnacle

I haven’t used the word “fun” to describe a phone for a long time, but the thought crossed my mind after I began playing with the Huawei Pinnacle for MetroPCS. No, the portrait QWERTY cell phone doesn’t have flashing lights like the LG dLite, and it won’t project images on a wall like the Samsung Galaxy Beam, but it does provide an engaging user experience and some colorful accents on the chassis.

This is the phone you get when you want to focus on texts, and on personal-assistant applications. However, the smaller 2.4-inch screen, sluggish processor, and slower 2.5G network speeds make waiting for Internet a real drag. And unfortunately, it stumbled on call quality.

The price is one sweet spot. Originally $ 49.99, the Pinnacle now costs $ 19 after a $ 30 mail-in rebate. Considering all the goodies inside — including a music player, hooks into social networks and e-mail, and the ability to create folders, to name a few — the Pinnacle is a nice surprise.
