Samsung Galaxy S6 vs LG G4: Which Phone Offers Best Android Experience?
News from Latin Post:

First Posted: Aug 17, 2015 03:31 PM EDT

The technology put inside today’s smartphones is becoming more and more advanced. Two excellent options are the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the LG G4, according to Extreme Tech.

Comparing the two smartphones, the first difference can be seen in screen size: The LG G4 offers a 5.5-inch screen while the Samsung Galaxy S6 is just a 5.1-inch display.

The displays are not created equally though. Samsung’s Super AMOLED display provides a 2560 x 1440 resolution and 577 pixels per-inch (PPI). That display is the sharpest currently offered on any flagship smartphone. The LG G4 has the bigger 5.5-inch screen, but it is not an AMOLED display. Instead it uses an LCD display. This leads to 538 PPI and colors that are sometimes too cool. The AMOLED display looks better and displays higher quality images.

The processor used in the LG G4 is the older Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. Since there were problems with the Snapdragon 810 overheating, LG decided to go with the Snapdragon 808, which is six cores instead of eight. Samsung decided to go away from Qualcomm all together and crea…………… continues on Latin Post

Rumor mill: LG’s rumored Nexus phone seen in new leaked photos
News from FierceWireless:

Rumors have been spreading since May that Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is working with two OEMs to create its next Nexus-branded phones running Android M software: a 5.7-inch Huawei device and a 5.2-inch phone from LG Electronics. Now, images purporting to show the LG-made device have surfaced.

The photo, originally posted in the Nexus Indonesia Google+ community, shows the back of a white Nexus device with a sticker that appears to have LG’s logo on it. At the top of the phone is a camera lens and what appears to be a rumored fingerprint scanner.

As Engadget notes, the camera appears to have a laser focus, dual-LED flash, which has popped up in recent flagship LG phones, like the G4. The phone also appears to have a plastic backing, which could bring down the final price of the LG-made Nexus phone. The Nexus 5, which LG produced in 2013, sold for $ 349 unlocked, while the Motorola Mobility-made Nexus 6, a 6-inch phablet, sold for $ 649.

The rumored Huawei device is expected to have more high-end specifications and cost more. Last year Google unveiled the latest Nexus devices in mid-October and could choose to do so again.

A July report from the Information, citing unnamed sources, said that the phone…………… continues on FierceWireless

Introduction
Just a year ago, the LG G3 was a new smartphone that seemed mighty impressive with its hardware parameters and attractive design. LG G Flex 2 Review
News from IGN:

April 8, 2015

The LG G3 was our pick for 2014′s best smartphone, and the next one will almost certainly be announced at an event later this month. But the company has another flagship-level phone out now that could tempt some away from its main line: the LG G Flex 2. Last year’s G Flex was an interesting phone, certainly, but one that felt like a gimmick brought to life for the sake of it—and the mediocre screen didn’t help.

Luckily, the sequel is better in all regards, offering a much sharper display and a slightly smaller design that’s more comfortable in the hand. But other issues have emerged this time around that might make you take pause when considering the G Flex 2, especially with so many major Android flagships on the horizon.

The G Flex 2 is conceptually the same as last year’s device: it’s a lightly curved, large-scre…………… continues on IGN

Phone Comparisons: LG G3 vs Samsung Galaxy S6
News from Android Headlines – Android News:

Do we have a good one for you today – the popular LG G3 goes up against the new Samsung Galaxy S6.  Yes, we know that a new LG G4 will be out in April or May and we will certainly compare that model as well, but right now we have to take LG’s flagship and see what kind of job Samsung has done in creating a competing device.

Both of these devices were highly anticipated – the LG G3 because it was to have the first mass-produced QHD display and we were all expecting a full-metal backing in the LG G3 to match up against the popular HTC One M8…one out of two ain’t bad.  And after the poor sales of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in 2014, Samsung was looking to do a complete makeover…and it looks as though they have succeeded.

The LG G3 and Galaxy S6 do share a few things in common – for one, they both use the QHD display resolution, although the G3 uses the LCD technology and the Galaxy S6 uses Samsung’s Super AMOLED technology.  Both devices use 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, although the G3 has external expansion capabilities, whereas the Galaxy S6 has th…………… continues on Android Headlines – Android News

Photos purportedly showing the LG G4 leak online (update: nope)
News from Engadget:

The phone in these images looks like the LG G3, but you might notice some subtle differences. That’s because it could actually be pictures of the brand’s yet-to-be-released flagship, the G4. An XDA Developer user called s3rv1cet3ch posted a folder of images on the forum, explicitly calling it the G4. The user also pointed out that it has stylus on the top left corner, but if this is the Korean version…………… continues on Engadget

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge vs LG G Flex 2
News from TechRadar:

Smartphones have reached the point where designs are more iterative than innovative. While the look and feel changes only slightly on new models each year, manufacturers haven’t done much to wow consumers beyond the traditional rectangular slab of glass, metal and plastic.

LG attempted to shake things up last year with first G Flex, a 6-inch smartphone with a curved display and slightly flexible frame, and Samsung soon followed with their own take on this concept, courtesy of the Galaxy Note Edge, a phablet-sized model featuring a display that wraps around the right side.

These Korean tech titans wasted no time announcing all-new versions of these devices for 2015, and we sat down with both in an effort to determine whether curved and flexible displays actually enhance the experience or are little more than a marketing gimmick.

Just look at those curves

4 brand new Android phones you might want this year instead of the Galaxy S6
News from BGR:

The Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 may have stolen the show at MWC 2015, especially the Galaxy S6 edge version, but that doesn’t mean all smartphone buyers currently considering a new Android handset will go for a high-end device. Nor should they, since the S6 is ridiculously expensive and there will be plenty of cheaper Android devices launching soon, running Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box.

In what follows, we’ll be ta…………… continues on BGR

Is this our first look at the LG G4?
News from Phandroid.com:

Talk about the LG G4 at AndroidForums.com!

Every company falls victim to a leak or two ahead of their flagship devices’ official unveiling, and LG is no different. The LG G4 has escaped our grasps for far too long, but we might have just gotten our first look at the thing.

Surprise, surprise: it looks like almost every LG flagship device we’ve seen the past couple of years, rear button placement and all. The leak was provided by @onleaks, which is manned by one of the editors from credible French technology blog NowhereElse.Fr.

We’d say that’s pretty good reason to believe this leak will hold up, but if the HTC One M9 debacle taught us anything it’s that no one truly knows anything until the official goods are delivered. It’s…………… continues on Phandroid.com

Samsung Galaxy S6

2015 is turning out to be a good year for tech manufacturers and techies as new devices have been released to great fanfare at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada on January and at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week.

Two of the most anticipated devices are LG’s G Flex 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6. The G Flex 2 made its debut at CES 2015, and many were impressed with its ability to bend and flex just like its predecessor, but the phone features a lot of improvements on the previous model.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 launched at the 2015 MWC, and Samsung’s new flagship phone underwent a dramatic—and welcome—change in design and has amazing specs that could firmly place it on top of every best smartphone of the year lists.

Here, we compare the two handsets.

Design:
The LG G Flex 2 is lighter, thinner, and more flexible than its predecessor. Pushing down on the phone will cause it to flatten, but as soon as any weight or pressure is off the device, it springs back into its curved shape right away. The phone has a self-heali…………… continues on Christian Post

Galaxy S6, HTC One M9, and LG G Flex 2: MWC’s Flagship Phones
News from PC Magazine:

At Mobile World Congress this week, I’ve had the chance to spend a little time the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, the HTC One M9, and the LG G Flex 2 – the three currently phones vying to be the top of the Android phone market.

The Samsung and HTC phones were announced at the show, and while the LG one was announced at CES, it hasn’t shipped yet. All three are being marketed as “flagship” phones – the ones with the best screens, processors, build quality – and of course, the highest price tags. And while we’re seeing three great phones, each with its own great characteristics, together they prove the adage that you can’t please everyone: each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

The Galaxy S6 has received a lot of attention for the big change in design from the previous Galaxy S5, swapping out the pla…………… continues on PC Magazine

LG preps ‘radically different’ G4 and a whole new flagship line
News from TechRadar:

LG has been showing off a few phones at MWC this year, but the top-end LG G4 hasn’t been spotted. According to the company’s mobile chief Cho Juno, the handset is going to be “radically different” to anything that’s come before – both inside and outside.

The Korea Times reports a MWC interview with Juno in which he describes a phone that’s a leap forward from the G3. It will feature a metal rather than polycarbonate casing, a major overhaul of its software design, and an improved user experience to boot.

“We will announce LG UX 4.0 before announcing the LG G4,” Cho told reporters. “I think it is simply the best and the issue is how to best fit the new UX system into the G4 smartphone.”

We’re expecting to see the LG G4 at some point over the next couple of months.

Phone Comparisons: Samsung Galaxy Note Edge vs LG G3

Phone Comparisons: Samsung Galaxy Note Edge vs LG G3
News from Android Headlines – Android News:

Do we have a good one for you today – the new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge goes up against the popular LG G3 flagship from July 2014.  The LG G3 was the first mass-produced/sold smartphone with the newest QHD display, with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and an astounding 538 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  It beat out early rivals, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8 with their rather pedestrian FHD displays.

The Galaxy Note Edge was almost a complete surprise – we expected the Galaxy Note 4 to be released, but the Galaxy Note Edge was like a surprise that Samsung brought to the party.  It too has the QHD display, only it uses Samsung’s Super AMOLED display technology versus the IPS LCD technology used by the LG G3.  These two Korean devices do share a few items besides their QHD resolution – the main display of the Note Edge is 5.-6-inches versus 5.5-inches on the LG G3, although there is a small 160-pixel display also on the Note Edge…on its curved side.

In the US markets, they both use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, just a different model.  They both…………… continues on Android Headlines – Android News

LG G4 ‘confirmed’ to be skipping MWC 2015, launching May at earliest
News from TechRadar:

MWC 2015 runs from March 2 to 5 and some of the biggest tech companies in the world are expected to flock to Barcelona to show off their newest handsets. However it looks like LG won’t be showing off its upcoming LG G4 smartphone.

According to an unnamed LG executive that spoke to Korean website Chosun, LG is looking to release the G4 no sooner than a year after it launched the LG G3. That handset launched in May 2014, so if the executive is correct we’re unlikely to see the LG G4 until May this year.

Rather than showing off an incomplete handset at MWC 2015, LG will instead continu…………… continues on TechRadar

LG Shows Off 8K Display And Curved-Edge Galaxy Note Edge Competitor

LG Shows Off 8K Display And Curved-Edge Galaxy Note Edge Competitor
News from Hot Hardware:

Massive displays are everywhere you look at the Consumer Electronics Show, but I found that some of the most interesting displays at CES 2015 are small: LG Display has some slick new technology for smartphones and a prototype for car dashboards that we hope will be showing up in cars soon.

Touch-sensitive sides put icons and sliders in easy reach on this LG Display phone.

A smartphone with curved edges struck me as unnecessary and unwieldy – until I got a chance to check out LG Display’s 6-inch smartphone with an “active bending” plastic OLED display. Notifications, including text message, can slide up the side of the phone and are surprisingly easy to ready as they pass by. The edges can also put icons and sliders in easy reach.

Plastic OLED displays are flexible and extremely tough. LG Display’s 5.5 inch FHD Curved display has a screen that is curved like a curved TV. If you haven’t seen the LG G Flex2, it’s another curved smartphone worth checking out.

Of course, LG Display’s booth…………… continues on Hot Hardware
