Samsung Galaxy S6

2015 is turning out to be a good year for tech manufacturers and techies as new devices have been released to great fanfare at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada on January and at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week.

Two of the most anticipated devices are LG’s G Flex 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6. The G Flex 2 made its debut at CES 2015, and many were impressed with its ability to bend and flex just like its predecessor, but the phone features a lot of improvements on the previous model.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 launched at the 2015 MWC, and Samsung’s new flagship phone underwent a dramatic—and welcome—change in design and has amazing specs that could firmly place it on top of every best smartphone of the year lists.

Here, we compare the two handsets.

Design:
The LG G Flex 2 is lighter, thinner, and more flexible than its predecessor. Pushing down on the phone will cause it to flatten, but as soon as any weight or pressure is off the device, it springs back into its curved shape right away. The phone has a self-heali…………… continues on Christian Post

LG G Flex (T-Mobile): Full Review – LAPTOP Magazine
News from LG G Flex (T-Mobile): Full Review – LAPTOP Magazine:

Who says curved displays are only for TVs? With its G Flex smartphone, LG wants to put rounded displays right in the palm of your hand. The handset features a 6-inch 720p screen that’s curved along its horizontal axis, which LG says can boost viewing angles while making the phone more comfortable to hold. The G Flex also sports a “self-healing” polymer back panel capable of resisting scratches and scrapes. T-Mobile is selling the G Flex for $ 28 per month for 24 months, which is slightly cheaper than the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 3 ($ 29 per month). But is the G Flex’s curvy design worth the price?

LG G Flex curved phone in shops today
News from CNET UK:

The LG G Flex is flaunting its curves and finally slinking into shops today. The curved smart phone has been available to order for a while, and it’s available from today to take home.

Unlocked Mobiles is selling the bendy, flexy G Flex to take home now, if you have a spare £635 for the SIM-free phone.

Meanwhile high street phone shop Carphone Warehouse is offering the Flex with a contract from Orange, T-Mobile, O2 or 4G EE. It starts at £49, as long as you’re willing to cough up a whopping £59 per month.

The cheapest monthly fee is £16.99 from Orange, but that involves paying out a still eye-watering £449 for the phone.

Unusually, EE has had samples of the phone for you to play with in selected EE shops since before Christmas, which is an interesting way to promote a phone as flat-out weird as the G Flex.

The Flex phone is curved so it curls intriguingly around your face as you chat. That’s in contrast to the

LG G Flex (Sprint): Full Review – LAPTOP Magazine
News from LG G Flex (Sprint): Full Review – LAPTOP Magazine:

The feature list for the LG Flex reads like a superhero character cocktail. This Android phone reminds us of Plastic Man, sporting a curved display and bendable design that can withstand up to 80 pounds of pressure without cracking. It’s also like Wolverine, with a polymer back that heals itself from some minor scratches. However, at $ 299 on Sprint, this pricey 6-inch Android handset is also Hulk-like in terms of its size. Is the LG G Flex the shape of things to come in the smartphone world or just a gadget full of gimmicks?

LG Optimus L9: Full Review

Saturday, December 15th, 2012

LG Optimus L9: Full Review
News from DigitalVersus:

The Optimus L9 is the flagship model in LG’s L-Style range of smartphones. That said, it has a pretty standard set of tech specs which are more worthy of a mid-range model. This handset has a 4.7″ screen (540 x 960 pixels), a 5-Megapixel camera and runs on a 1 GHz TI OMAP processor with 1 GB of RAM. There’s only a puny 4 GB of internal memory but you do get a Micro SD card slot for boosting storage. Otherwise, the 2150 mAh battery looks like it should ensure a decent amount of talk-time.

Selling for just under £300 SIM-free, the Optimus L9 looks a bit feeble next to the Google Nexus 4—also made by LG—which sells SIM-free at £239 for the 8 GB version and £279 for the 16 GB model. So how does the Optimus L9 compare? Answers below.

Design & Handling

The Optimus L9 is light but isn’t especially slim. Plus, it’s design doesn’t exactly scream originality. It melts easily into LG’s L series with its chiselled edges.

While the L9 is nice enough to hold and handle, we’re not huge fans of the rear casing. It’s made from a kind of flimsy-feeling grainy plastic, which doesn’t seem massively sturdy. In fact, this phone doesn’t fee…………… continues on DigitalVersus

New comScore stats show Apple passing LG to become number two phone …
News from PhoneDog:

It’s been a few months since we last checked in on research firm comScore’s market share stats for the U.S., so that’s precisely what we’ll do on this fine Friday evening. ComScore has released its market share report for the three-month period starting in July 2012 and ending in October 2012 and, at least on the phone OEM side of things, there actually was a bit of a shake-up in the standings this time around.

Samsung once again finished atop the OEM mountain with a 26.3 percent share, a growth of 0.7 percent from July to October. Moving into second place is Apple, which managed to grow 1.5 percent, enough to end up with a 17.8 percent share and leapfrog LG for the silver position in the standings. LG’s share of the market dropped 0.8 percent to finish at 17.6 percent, giving it third place. We’ve watched in recent months as LG has

LG Optimus V (Virgin Mobile): Full Review

LG Optimus V (Virgin Mobile): Full Review
News from LAPTOP Magazine:

#mce_temp_url#Paying as little as $ 55 a month for unlimited data and talk time sounds pretty sweet, right? The $ 99.99 LG Optimus V on Virgin Mobile is a budget-friendly smartphone that doesn’t tie you down with a two-year contract, and is far less expensive than the major carriers. It’s not the most cutting-edge handset out there: We’re talking a 3.2-inch QVGA display and modest 3G speeds. If it’s simple you’re looking for, however, the Optimus V delivers, offering snappy performance and a responsive touch screen. But how does it compare with other contract-free smartphones?

LG renames Optimus LTE to Optimus True HD LTE, disses Samsung’s HD Super AMOLED
News from Engadget:

While the Optimus LTE’s already made its way to South Korea, Japan and the US (in the guise of the Spectrum and the Nitro HD), LG’s decided to give this dual-core handset a new name ahead of its Hong Kong launch at the end of this month. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Optimus True HD LTE. Alas, the “true HD” part here doesn’t actually mean the phone’s getting 1080p resolution on a 4.5-inch panel (which would be 490ppi; yet Toshiba’s actually done it!); but we were told that ’tis really just a dig at Samsung’s HD Super AMOLED technology — you know, the magic behind that 4.65-inch screen on the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S II HD LTE.

Simply put, LG doesn’t think that 1,280 x 720 on PenTile counts as HD due to the lower number of sub-pixels; and…………… continues on Engadget

The Lucid also sports a bright 4-inch display and dual-core processor. Read on to find out if this handset measures up to the value-priced competition.

Design

Click to EnlargeWhile the LG Lucid is coated in glossy plastic, it doesn’t look or feel cheap. Plus, this phone is lighter and more compact than similarly priced Android phones.

Gorilla Glass protects the Lucid’s 4-inch display, ensuring that it can take some abuse. A chrome LG logo sits along the top of the phone, across from the front-facing 0.3 megapixel camera in the right hand corner. Mobile phone news website PocketNow posted an image of the rumored LG Miracle, indicating that the device also carries a branding of the Canadian telecommunication company Telus. Previously dubbed as LG Fantasy, the site’s source tipped that the handset is carrying an E704H moniker.

This contradicts the online publication’s previous claim that LG Fantasy will carry an E950 codename. Simply put, LG Fantasy and Miracle are different Windows Phone units. In addition, the LG device that made an appearance in Romania prior to Mobile World Congress event last February has a model name of E704. LG Optimus S (Republic Wireless) Beta: Full Review

LG Optimus S (Republic Wireless) Beta: Full Review
News from LAPTOP Magazine:

An unlimited, contract-free smartphone plan for $ 19 a month? Sounds too good to be true, but that’s the promise from Republic Wireless, a new hybrid cellular/VoIP carrier from Bandwidth.com. You dish out $ 199 for an LG Optimus S Android phone upfront (the only model offered on the network right now), then sign up for its cheap monthly service. In return, Republic Wireless gives you an all-you-can-eat buffet of unlimited calls, texts and data. The catch? Republic Wireless assumes you’ll be connected to a Wi-Fi network for most of the day, only using a cell network as backup. The service is still in beta (and trial slots are currently full), but Republic Wireless will supposedly let folks in by mid-2012. When it does, should you sign up for this ultra-low rate? Read on.

LG TO INTRODUCE ITS FIRST LTE TABLET

Expanding LTE Leadership into Tablets to
Meet the Needs of Consumers’ Faster Lifestyles

SEOUL, Jan. 18, 2012 – LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its first LTE-capable tablet, the Optimus Pad LTE. Initially launching in Korea, LG has equipped the tablet with both LTE technology and True HD IPS display, the two features that have helped LG differentiate its latest smartphone, Optimus LTE, from the competition.

“With tablets generating five times more traffic than the average smartphone, it’s not a huge jump to assume that tablet users need and want faster connectivity,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. “The combination of LG’s LTE technology with the tablet form factor is a clear advantage for consumers who use a tablet as their primary consumption device when on the move.”

Boasting the best-in-class in the tablets, LG Optimus Pad LTE provides the ultimate user environment to enjoy HD multimedia with a 1280 x 720 True HD IPS display and 8 megapixel camera for shooting high definition video. The Optimus Pad LTE is also the world’s first tablet to support an SD memory card expandable to 32GB, recognizing the importance multimedia would play for owners of this device.
