LG offers first phone in the US with flexible screen
News from CBS News:

Have you been hankering for a science fiction-y smartphone with a curved, flexible screen? If so, you’re in luck: The LG G Flex will be available in the U.S. starting next week.

The Android-based Flex is essentially a carbon copy of the G2, which has been available in Asia for some time. Its most notable feature, of course, is a 6-inch curved OLED screen; the entire phone has a noticeable curve, with the glass smoothly contoured. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 2.26GHz processor and features a 13 megapixel camera (as well as a 2 megapixel front-facing camera).

Not only is the screen curved, but the entire device is flexible; LG has demonstrated that, with the screen facing down on a tabletop, a heavy weight can flatten the phone completely, and it snaps back to its usual curve when the weight is lifted. That implies the phone can stand up to routine abuse – like accidentally sitting on it. Also curious: The Flex has a “self-healing” back which can recover from routine scratches.

The phone will be available from most carriers starting February 5, and you can pre-order it now fr…………… continues on CBS News

LG G Pro 2 leak reveals another big phone with rear key
News from Geek:

Android By Russell Holly Jan. 29, 2014 11:00 am

LG’s decision to put volume and power buttons on the backs of their phones instead of on the sides like everyone else continues with the soon to be announced G Pro 2. Fortunately for LG, it still looks like a fantastic idea for large phones.

All of the popular Android manufacturers are working hard to differentiate themselves right now. Samsung, Motorola, LG, and Sony all have unique looks and feels to them. If you’re even remotely interested in smartphones, you can usually look at a phone across the room and tell who the manufacturer is.

If you’re obsessed like we are, you can usually tell exactly what model it is. The easiest to recognize by far right now are LG’s phones, thanks to their special rear key design that puts all the physical buttons on the back. This new trend is perfect for larg…………… continues on Geek

2013 may be the year of the flexible screen
News from Digital Trends:

The flexible smartphone screen may soon lose its science fiction status and become science fact, as Samsung and LG work hard on a new technology which could change the face of smartphone design in 2013.

Could 2013 bring with it one of the biggest revolutions in mobile phone design since the advent of the touchscreen? If the growing rumors surrounding flexible displays are true, and that one of the major manufacturers will release a device with a bendable screen next year, then yes, we could see the start of a huge trend. While flexible smartphone screens will be new to most of us, the technology has been around for some time, and is already in several devices; you just may not realize it.

A decade of hype

Reports of companies developing flexible displays date back more than a decade, with a startup named Universal Display being linked with their development in 2002. Universal Display is now at the forefront of rese…………… continues on Digital Trends

5-inch Full HD Phones from Huawei, LG, Samsung and Sony to Launch in 1H …
News from HardwareZone.com:

If 2012 is known as the year of smartphones with 4.7-inch displays, 2013 will be the year of 5-inch mobile devices.

According to DigiTimes, industry sources claim that a number of phone makers are expected to roll out smartphone models with 5-inch full HD displays in the first half of 2013. While companies such as LG and Samsung are able to manufacture display panels in-house, other phone vendors can obtain supplies from Japan Display (JDI), Sharp or LG.

The latest report does not come as a surprise since a number of phone makers have announced devices or are alleged to be introducing phones with bigger displays. Taiwanese phone maker HTC currently leads the pack with the 5-inch Butterfly, which was announced last week.

Finally, a folding phone: LG invents revolutionary batteries so flexible they …
News from Daily Mail:

Phone companies have long touted the possibility of bendable smartphones, enabling you to keep your phone rolled up in your pocket and then stretched out when necessary.

But one component has so far kept this concept away from reality – the inflexible lithium batteries that power our devices.

But now appliance manufacturer LG has come up with a flexible battery that could create a whole new generation of devices.

Samsung created this concept phone of the future, which can be worn on the wrist as a watch, or stretched out for full video playback – and anything in between

Lighting up: The Seoul-based team tested their ‘cable battery’ on LCD screens – and show just how flexible their technology is

The company’s new technology could also see battery life improved, as the design means batteries do not need to be square-shaped, but could be shaped around other components – a…………… continues on Daily Mail

LG Splendor coming to US Cellular according to leaks
News from Android Community:

LG and US Cellular have teamed up and will finally be bringing one of LG’s new L-series “stylish” phones to the US with what we’ve previously known as the Optimus L7. The image below was quickly spotted on LG’s website and was immediately pulled, but not before the interwebs saved the image. Get ready for some LG Ice Cream Sandwich USCC.

The LG Optimus L7 isn’t anything new and this decent mid-range phone should make for a nice addition to US Cellular’s ever growing lineup of Android smartphones. The L7 should be known as the Splendor for US Cellular and comes complete with a 4.3-inch display, a 1.0 GHz single-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal storage, and as you can see Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is on board.

Sadly we still aren’t seeing Jelly Bean devices out of the box yet, except for the Galaxy Note II, so most likely USCC customers will be waiting for that update to arrive from LG. The smartphone has been available for a few months internationally, and was initially announced back in February where we enjoyed some hands-on time with the ICS-touting device.

With the Optimus L7 being…………… continues on Android Community
