LG’s next flagship phone set to launch in Q4, CEO says
News from TechnoBuffalo:

LG has been promising a new flagship phone for a while now, though we’re still not sure exactly what to expect. Now the company is promising to release the device before the end of the year, in addition to a few mid-range and entry-level models.

Speaking to the press and employees, LG CEO Joon-Ho Cho promised the mysterious device will arrive in Q4 2015. However, he also denied ever promising a “super premium phone.” That quote came from an ETNews report last month, though the source at the time was an anonymous LG official.

Previous reports have suggested the device in question could be the LG G Pro 3. The new phone will allegedly pack a massive 6-inch Quad HD display, a cutting edge Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a…………… continues on TechnoBuffalo

LG Nexus 2015 rumors, specs, release date: new photo appears to be selfie shot …
News from Vine Report:

The tech world may have just seen the very first photo taken by the long rumored LG Nexus 5 2015.

As reported by Phone Arena, an employee who works for Google’s Quality Assurance Department posted a selfie on his Google+ profile, with the Exif data saying that the photo posted was taken via a certain phone called “LG Bullhead”. To people who have been following the flow of the rumor mill closely, the term “Bullhead” will immediately be familiar as it is the codename of the long rumored new Nexus phone to be released by LG. Information about the photo extracted from the post revealed that the “LG Bullhead” allegedly used to take the selfie has a 5 metafiles front camera with 1944 × 2592 resolution, and with an aperture of f/2.0, enabling users to take quality images even in low lighting conditions. Coordinates data from the photo upload showed that the photo was taken at Googleplex in Mountain View, California.

LG: Next flagship phone to sport vastly improved 5.5-inch LCD
News from CNET:

LG will outfit its next flagship phone with a higher-end screen. LG Display

LG will outfit its next flagship phone with a screen that promises major improvements in just about every way.

The new QHD (Quad High Definition) LCD display “represents a quantum jump in terms of key features,” LG Display said Friday. Those features include brightness, color gamut, contrast ratio, touch function, power consumption and thinness.

The new screens have already entered mass production to be used in LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone scheduled to debut the end of the month.

LG did not mention the name of its next flagship phone in Friday’s announcement. But the company will host a launch event on April 28 for the device. Industry watchers expected it to be dubbed the G4 — as a follow-up to LG’s current flagship phone, the G3.

LG’s second generation curved phone, the G Flex 2 is shaped like a banana – which makes it an attractive curio and it’s interesting to use, but should people actually buy it?

The idea behind the concave screen is that it is a more natural shape for a device designed to fit against the body, be that the face or the backside.

Metallic Nexus 2015 Phone On Release Date Hinted By Alleged LG G4 Note …
News from International Business Times AU:

If Google plans to go metal for its Nexus 2015 smartphone then the base-model for the device is likely the phablet LG G4 Note. Reports from South Korea indicate that the supersized phone will be wrapped in metal.

According to G4Games, pointing to Korean-language ZDNet Korea as source, LG flagships will flash premium build and designs starting on the second half of 2015. But as the upcoming LG G4 is scheduled to touchdown anytime starting April this year, the device clad in metal is essentially ruled out.

So the best candidate to become the repurposed Nexus 2015 phone, replacing the Motorola Nexus 6, is the rumoured LG phablet that for now goes by the name LG G4 Note. That is if Google will indeed renew its partnership with the South Korean firm for this year’s Nexus smartphone project.

Earlier, reports came out that Google engineers have visited manufacturing facilities owned by LG, sparking assumptions that the next Nexus will again come from the Nexus 4 and 5 maker. Prior to this suggestion, the Internet search giant was reportedly looking on the possibility of collaborating with Huawei for a China-centric Nexus device.

Galaxy S6, HTC One M9, and LG G Flex 2: MWC’s Flagship Phones

Galaxy S6, HTC One M9, and LG G Flex 2: MWC’s Flagship Phones
News from PC Magazine:

At Mobile World Congress this week, I’ve had the chance to spend a little time the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, the HTC One M9, and the LG G Flex 2 – the three currently phones vying to be the top of the Android phone market.

The Samsung and HTC phones were announced at the show, and while the LG one was announced at CES, it hasn’t shipped yet. All three are being marketed as “flagship” phones – the ones with the best screens, processors, build quality – and of course, the highest price tags. And while we’re seeing three great phones, each with its own great characteristics, together they prove the adage that you can’t please everyone: each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

The Galaxy S6 has received a lot of attention for the big change in design from the previous Galaxy S5, swapping out the pla…………… continues on PC Magazine

LG preps ‘radically different’ G4 and a whole new flagship line
News from TechRadar:

LG has been showing off a few phones at MWC this year, but the top-end LG G4 hasn’t been spotted. According to the company’s mobile chief Cho Juno, the handset is going to be “radically different” to anything that’s come before – both inside and outside.

The Korea Times reports a MWC interview with Juno in which he describes a phone that’s a leap forward from the G3. It will feature a metal rather than polycarbonate casing, a major overhaul of its software design, and an improved user experience to boot.

“We will announce LG UX 4.0 before announcing the LG G4,” Cho told reporters. “I think it is simply the best and the issue is how to best fit the new UX system into the G4 smartphone.”

We’re expecting to see the LG G4 at some point over the next couple of months.

LG’s 2015 flagship phone will feature an insane 3K resolution display
News from BGR:

If you thought that 2K resolution is a bit too much for a smartphone featuring a display that’s barely bigger than 5 inches diagonally, then you might be shocked to learn handset makers aren’t stopping there. MyLGPhones has discovered a file on LG’s website that seems to indicate the upcoming LG G4’s display will have a 3K resolution.

LG G4′s appeal will be all about design and the camera
News from TechRadar:

Making a phone stand out isn’t easy, but for the LG G4 the design and camera are going to be its key draws.

During its recent earnings call, LG claimed that its upcoming LG G4 flagship Android phone will separate itself with these handset design and camera tech elements.

Your first assumption on the design front might be a move to a metal phone shell, but don’t be too hasty.

The G4 sibling LG G Flex 2 has already been officially announced, and bears the same plastic outer we usually see in LG phones.

A self-healing back, seen in the original G Flex, is one possible solution, while LG’s signature rear buttons are likely to allow LG to maintain an incredibly skinny bezel for an all-screen front-on look.

Lights, camera, action

And for the camera? Rumours indicate the LG G4 will have a 16-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilisation.

Quite how such a setup separates the G4 from the pack remains a mystery.

Rumor says LG may target the Note 4 with new G4 flagship phone

Rumor says LG may target the Note 4 with new G4 flagship phone
News from Digital Trends:

The LG G3 will almost certainly be replaced by the LG G4 at some point during 2015, and it’ll have to be something very special if it’s to be worthy of the name. While the G4 is unlikely to break cover officially until later on in 2015, rumors of its possible specifications are already beginning to gather.

Here’s what we think we know about the LG G4, all in one handy guide.

A change in strategy?

According to a report from China in late December, LG may include a stylus with the G4, and turn it into a competitor of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The rumor is based on a selection of trademarks recently registered by LG, including the G Scrawl, and an updated version of the G Pen. Currently, the LG G3’s closest rival is the Galaxy S5.

Mysterious device shows LG may be plotting Windows Phone revival
News from Digital Trends:

LG may be in the process of building a new smartphone running Windows Phone. The news comes from AdDuplex’s latest market research, where an LG phone popped up in its breakdown of which devices are being used to view adverts. The device wears the model number LGVW820, which interestingly links it to another LG phone, the D820, better known as the Nexus 5.

Sadly, if AdDuplex’s data is correct, the Windows Phone device isn’t a reworking of the excellent Android phone. The only specs available are related to the screen, which apparently measures 4.7-inches and has a 480 x 854 pixel resolution. That puts the VW820 firmly in the mid-range, and up against the Lumia 535.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs LG G3 – Is A More Expensive Phone The Best Option?
News from The Fuse Joplin:

Samsung released recently its fourth generation Note phablet, one of the most expensive phones from the market. The LG G3, which brought a Quad HD display before the Note 4, it’s much cheaper and it’s not far behind its rival’s technical specifications.

Designs

Compared to the Note 3, the Note 4 is thicker and heavier, measuring 8.5mm and weighting 176grams, while the LG G3 has a thickness of 8.9mm and a weight of 149grams. But let’s not forget that the Note 4 phablet has a bigger display and to make your life easier, Samsung added the S Pen stylus which you can use to navigate across the screen. The Note 4 has polycarbonate material on its back imitating faux leather which doesn’t give the same “wow” effect as LG G3’s rear cover with brushed metal skin, although it was obtained from plastic.

Displays

Both displays have the same resolution of 1440×2560 pixels, but Samsung uses a Super AMOLED display sized at 5.7inches, with 515ppi, while LG opted for a smaller True HD-IPS + LCD display measuring 5.5inches and supporting a pixel density of 534ppi. The LCD screen offers more natural colors, while Super AMOLED technology gives popping colors.

Hardware

The Note 4 is extremely powerful, being one of the first devices to come powered by a quad core 2.7GHz Qualcomm…………… continues on The Fuse Joplin

Wolverton: LG’s new flagship G3 phone lacks pizazz

Wolverton: LG’s new flagship G3 phone lacks pizazz
News from San Jose Mercury News:

If Samsung represents one extreme in the move to add new bells and whistles to smartphones, LG seems to be aiming for the other end of the spectrum.

In its Galaxy S line of phones, Samsung has taken the kitchen sink approach each year by adding a host of new features, from new ways to shoot photos to new hardware elements like pulse monitors. But too often, the add-ons have been either poorly conceived or partially developed.

LG takes the opposite approach. With its new flagship smartphone, the G3, the company focuses on only a handful of new features, most of which are subtle improvements rather than flashy advances.

I like the idea, but I think LG may have carried things too far. The G3 is a good phone, but it’s not exciting.

LG G3 smartphone. (LG photo)

Like many other Android flagship phones these days, the G3 touts a jumbo-sized screen, a long-lived battery and a fast quad-core processor. But unlike those phones, the G3′s interface is relatively unmodified from standard Android. And its tw…………… continues on San Jose Mercury News

Apple leads phone sales in May, Samsung gains, and LG loses steam
News from Digital Trends:

Apple hasn’t unveiled a new iPhone in more than nine months, but the company still has a stranglehold on the U.S. smartphone market. In May, Apple claimed 41.9 percent of the market, according to a report from comScore. Samsung grew its market share, while LG and HTC lost a bit of their respective shares of the pie.

Apple’s share reflects an increase of 0.6 percentage points from its 41.3 percent share in February. Samsung finished May in second place with 27.8 percent of the market, up 0.8 percentage points. LG finished third with 6.5 percent of the U.S. smartphone market, down 0.3 percentage points.

Meet the G3, LG’s new flagship Android phone

Meet the G3, LG’s new flagship Android phone
News from The Week Magazine:

L

G’s new flagship Android phone, the G3, has been a poorly kept secret. Not only was a lot of information known ahead of its official debut, but screen shots of the actual device also popped up well in advance.

However, it remained to be seen how all its impressive features would fit together, and how the device would feel as a whole. Yesterday, LG finally took the wraps off the G3 and fleshed out the remaining details.

At a San Francisco live-stream of the London event, I was able to get some hands-on time with the new device and see the features in action. The point the company kept hammering home was that it is giving users high-end technology without the complexity. Each feature was mentioned in the context of simplicity and ease of use. While some features are not as simple as advertised, the effort is certainly there.

The highest-resolution screen in the U.S.
One of the headline features is the G3′s super-high-resolution screen. With 2560 x 1440 lines of resolution and 538 pixels per inch, the display is absolutely stunning. It will be the first 2k, or QuadHD, display in the United States when the device launches sometime this summer. Having such a densely packed screen on a mobile device means images pop and animation is extremely…………… continues on The Week Magazine

LG’s new G3 shows that the company is continuing to step up its smartphone game. As a longtime cell phone reviewer, and someone who hates the thought of an Apple-Samsung duopoly, I’m glad to see that happen.

Yet, there’s another reason that I’m pleased.
