The first phone of CES 2015: The 64-bit, octa-core LG G Flex 2

The first phone of CES 2015: The 64-bit, octa-core LG G Flex 2
News from Gizmag:

The first new smartphone unveiled at CES 2015 is a follow-up to the LG G Flex, which was on display here in Las Vegas at CES 2014 a year ago. The LG G Flex 2 brings back the curved, (slightly) flexible form factor of the original, but gives a major boost to its hardware and software.

The G Flex 2 has a 5.5-inch display, which means it actually shrunk from the full-blown phablet size of the original G Flex’s 6-inch display. But the slightly smaller screen has been bumped up to a Curved P-OLED capable of 1080 x 1920 pixels and 403 pixels per inch. LG also claims that the screen on the G Flex 2 can withstand 20 percent more force, to prevent broken displays.

Another distinctive feature of the original G Flex, its self-healing back plate that recovers from scratches and scuffs in a few minutes, has been improved to heal itself in as little as 10 seconds.

Is this LG’s first Windows Phone 8 device?

Is this LG’s first Windows Phone 8 device?
News from CNET:

Dubbed the Uni8, the device sports the familiar Windows Phone 8 interface, at least in this image provided by Evleaks.

Evleaks/Screenshot by Lance Whitney/CNET

LG could be getting into the Windows Phone 8 game, if a new image popping online turns out to be the real deal.

An image posted by oft-accurate tipster Evleaks shows an LG phone with the traditional Windows Phone screen. Dubbed the LG Uni8, the device could see the light of day this year, according to Evleaks’ tweet as it specifically lists 2014.

The Uni8 resembles a traditional Windows Phone handset with the tiled home screen and the familiar navigation keys at the bottom. But otherwise, the leak doesn’t reveal any specs or details about the device.

CNET contacted LG for comment and will update the story with any further information. In February of 2013, LG told CNET that it had no immediate plans to sell a Windows Phone 8 handset, citing a l…………… continues on CNET

LG G3 press renders leak to show phone in full glory
News from TrustedReviews:

Official looking LG G3 images have leaked, with the prematurely teased press renders showcasing the upcoming handset in all its high-end glory.

With the heavily rumoured, but currently unconfirmed LG G3 having been the subject of multiple leaks in recent weeks and months, the first official shots of the device have now popped up, once again showing the handset in a trio of lustrous hues.

Despite giving the clearest, most professional look at the handset yet, the press images offer no further insight into the device beyond what has already been seen.

Shown in black, silver and gold colour schemes, the LG G3 looks set to feature an expansive, edge-to-edge display and a slimline, brushed metal or metal effect body.

Sticking with a design principle introduced last year, the G3 has been shown with a smaller, more refined rear button configuration, with the phone’s power and volume keys sat beneath the integrated camera and dual-LED flash offering.

According to recent rumours, the LG G3 will boast a 5.5-inch QHD panel, with a stunning 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.

On top of this visual party piece, the handset is expected to feature Google’s latest And…………… continues on TrustedReviews

LG’s first smart light bulb flashes when you get a phone call

LG’s first smart light bulb flashes when you get a phone call
News from Engadget:

LG isn’t about to let household heavyweights like Philips corner the connected lighting space — it just unveiled the Smart Lamp, its first take on the concept. The 10W LED bulb gives Android and iOS users a familiar level of control over their illumination, including a light-based alarm clock and a security mode that pretends you’re at home. There are a couple of noteworthy tricks in this initial offering, however. The light connects through both Bluetooth and WiFi, letting it pull the sync-based stunts we’ve seen in a few other bulbs: it can flash when…………… continues on Engadget

LG F70 Review | First Impressions from MWC 2014
News from TrustedReviews:

The cheapest 4G phone?

4G internet connectivity has become the norm in expensive, top-end phones. However, we almost never see it in phones like the LG F70. This is an entry-level mobile that offers super-fast 4G internet. And it’s the sort of device that has the potential to bring 4G to the masses. We had a play with it at MWC 2014, where the phone was launched.

LG F70 – Design and Features

The LG F70 is a simple-looking, inoffensive phone. It comes in black or white, has a textured plastic back and is slightly chunky. It’s not going to turn heads, but it’s not likely to turn many off either.

The black and white versions

Its styling is very similar to the higher-end LG F90, but there are a few design cuts…………… continues on TrustedReviews

LG G Pro 2 Review | First Impressions from MWC 2014

LG G Pro 2 Review | First Impressions from MWC 2014
News from TrustedReviews:

Big Screen, Big Phone: Big ambitions?

The LG G Pro 2 is a large-screen phone. Its display is 5.9 inches across, slightly larger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3′s one and a good half inch bigger than its predecessor the LG Optimus G Pro’s display. We took a look at this giant mobile at MWC 2014, where it was first shown off.

LG G Pro 2 – Design and Screen

The ‘Pro’ title may make you assume the LG G Pro 2 has some professional applications the LG G2 lacks, but they’re fundamentally quite similar phones. This one is simply bigger.

A key thing to note is that the LG G Pro 2 does no…………… continues on TrustedReviews

In a crowded space dominated by black, white, and silver boxes, LG is showing that there is still innovation left in the smartphone world in the form of the G Flex. Touting a curved display, and one that could bend and handle a little bit of abusive force, along with a self-healing back cover that whisks away small scratches, is the G Flex just another pretty face with some nice curves or does LG have enough muscle to flex?

LG’s first Firefox phone

LG’s first Firefox phone
News from CNET:

Created: 02/23/2014

Video description: MWC gave us a chance to check out LG’s first attempt at a Firefox OS device.

I’m Jessica Dolcourt with CNET here at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona looking at a bunch of Firefox OS phones. This one is the LG Fireweb. It was announced and launched in one market, Brazil, and that was in October, but this is the first time we’re seeing it. This is LG’s first Firefox phone. It runs version 1.1 of the operating system. It has a 4-inch screen with a pretty low resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. However the camera on the back is pretty hot for Firefox phones. It’s 5 megapixels and there’s a flash. The device looks kind of cool. On the back LG has actually gone to the effort to put some sort of holographic checkerboard so it sort of shimmers a little bit when you move it in the light. The phone is compact, easy to hold in one hand, easy to operate and I also like that it has this physical button here at the bottom which makes it much easier to get home. The other thing I will say is that this is running on a 1 gigahertz Qualcomm processor under the hood so it’s not a very fast phone and your data speeds are really gonna determine how fast it is to use. I’m Jessica Dolcourt for CNET taking a First Look at the LG Fireweb.

LG G2 mini: First impressions from MWC 2014
News from TrustedReviews:

LG G2 mini shows that size does matter

The LG G2 mini is small in name but not so in stature.

The spinoff handset follows in the footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and HTC One mini – borrowing the branding of a flagship Android phone while moving to a smaller footprint and reduced spec.

Unlike the rival ‘minis’, however – both of which are 4.3-inches in size – the LG G2 mini is still a bit of a beast. Its 4.7-inch display is parallel in size to the flagship HTC One, but down on the 5.2-inch LG G2.

With UK pricing and availability still to be announced, I had a play with the LG G2 mini at MWC 201…………… continues on TrustedReviews

LG offers first phone in the US with flexible screen

LG offers first phone in the US with flexible screen
News from CBS News:

Have you been hankering for a science fiction-y smartphone with a curved, flexible screen? If so, you’re in luck: The LG G Flex will be available in the U.S. starting next week.

The Android-based Flex is essentially a carbon copy of the G2, which has been available in Asia for some time. Its most notable feature, of course, is a 6-inch curved OLED screen; the entire phone has a noticeable curve, with the glass smoothly contoured. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 2.26GHz processor and features a 13 megapixel camera (as well as a 2 megapixel front-facing camera).

Not only is the screen curved, but the entire device is flexible; LG has demonstrated that, with the screen facing down on a tabletop, a heavy weight can flatten the phone completely, and it snaps back to its usual curve when the weight is lifted. That implies the phone can stand up to routine abuse – like accidentally sitting on it. Also curious: The Flex has a “self-healing” back which can recover from routine scratches.

The phone will be available from most carriers starting February 5, and you can pre-order it now fr…………… continues on CBS News

LG G Pro 2 leak reveals another big phone with rear key
News from Geek:

Android By Russell Holly Jan. 29, 2014 11:00 am

LG’s decision to put volume and power buttons on the backs of their phones instead of on the sides like everyone else continues with the soon to be announced G Pro 2. Fortunately for LG, it still looks like a fantastic idea for large phones.

All of the popular Android manufacturers are working hard to differentiate themselves right now. Samsung, Motorola, LG, and Sony all have unique looks and feels to them. If you’re even remotely interested in smartphones, you can usually look at a phone across the room and tell who the manufacturer is.

If you’re obsessed like we are, you can usually tell exactly what model it is. The easiest to recognize by far right now are LG’s phones, thanks to their special rear key design that puts all the physical buttons on the back. This new trend is perfect for larg…………… continues on Geek

LG G Flex review: first impressions of the flexi phone from LG

Thursday, December 19th, 2013

LG G Flex review: first impressions of the flexi phone from LG
News from TrustedReviews:

What is the LG G Flex

The LG G Flex is a new 6-inch smartphone and the first to benefit from a curved plastic OLED display that is capable of bending under pressure. Built around the foundations of the flagship LG G2, this phablet-sized phone has a powerful quad-core processor and 13-megapixel camera, but it’s the flexible body that’s the real eye-catching feature.

It’s the first flexible phone to enter mass production and although the LG G Flex is currently only available in Korea, it will be in the UK in early 2014. It’s a damn exciting and genuinley interesting phone, so we were keen to see how this curved phone compared to more standard phones.

Editor’s note: This isn’t a full review but our first impressions based on initial time with the product. We will publish a full review when it’s available on sale in the UK.

LG G Flex: Design

First things first, the LG G Flex has a very noticeable and pronounced curve to its design. With both the phone’s body and screen featuring a vertically concave bend, the G Flex’…………… continues on TrustedReviews

Optimus G2 MIA at CES 2013, oh dear LG
News from Phones Review:

With this week’s CES 2013 event taking place along with next month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, we get to hear a variety of rumours suggesting certain manufacturers will be revealing new handsets. This has recently included LG but the expected Optimus G2 is MIA at CES 2013 unfortunately.

Leading up to the event there were rumours suggesting that LG would showcase the Optimus G2 at its press conference, but as the Android Authority are reporting there was no sign of a new handset at the show. Instead the company did talk about the Nexus 4 as well as the Optimus G among other things that also included the new feature for the Optimus Vu 2 that we reported about earlier today.

The remainder of the company’s press conference was centred on its TV offerings for this year, but there was mention of the Smart Life connectivity between LG’s various devices and its smartphones. According to James Fisher of LG we can expect to hear some goodies regarding new handsets at next month’s MWC event though.
