LG to face difficult 2015, launch Firefox LTE phone in Japan

LG to face difficult 2015, launch Firefox LTE phone in Japan
News from ZDNet:

Summary:South Korean tech giant LG Electronics is expected to have hard time next year due to strong competition in the premium smartphone market.

LG is to face a difficult environment in 2015, according to Eugene Securities Analyst Yoon Hyuk-jin’s corporate analysis report which was released on last week.

Yoon pointed out that Apple’s iPhone 6 is the main source of LG’s negative expectation in 2015.

“Due to strong competition of North American smartphone market after the iPhone 6 release in September, LG’s Mobile Communication division’s rate of return in the fourth-quarter is to record 2.4 percent, 1.5 percent fall from the third-quarter,” Yoon said in his report.

LG said it shipped 16.8 million smartphones in the July-September period, its highest ever for a business quarter. It toppled LG’s previous record set in the second quarter of the year of 14.5 million units.

The company has also announced it set to launch the FxO, the world’s first LTE-enabled phone powered by the Firefox operating system in Japan.

The FxO has a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2.1 megapixel front camera, 2,370 mAh battery life, and a 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor. Firefox 2.0 is installed on the device. (…………… continues on ZDNet

LG G4 could be Galaxy Note 4 contender with stylus
News from Phones Review:

News is really starting to ramp up now about upcoming flagship smartphones for 2015, and one of those is the LG G4. New reports suggest that a new G Series phone could be a Galaxy Note 4 contender and come with a stylus, and it’s thought that this could be the LG G4.

The Samsung Galaxy Note line featuring the S Pen stylus still stands at the top of the phablet crowd, despite attempts by some other manufacturers to match it. Now Asian sources report that the LG G4, due to release around summer, will also include a stylus, although we have to say we’re not convinced on the evidence so far that this is actually the G4 and not another G handset.

The overseas news gives some specs for this new LG G phone, and they include a Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor, a 5.3-inch display with Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440, 4GB of RAM, and 32 or 64GB of internal storage. Further specs are said to be a 20.7-megapixel rear camera and 3500 mAh battery, and if the above is accurate this handset would be likely to please a lot of LG device fans. One thing that seems as though it could be amiss with these specs though, is a display size of 5.3-inches. The LG G3 has a 5.5-inch display and it seems unlikely to us that LG would go smaller with the next iteration. Also we’ve previously heard rumors that the G4 will have a 5.8 to 6-inch display.

It’s also reported that this…………… continues on Phones Review

News from LG G2 Review: One of The BEST Android’s Money Can Buy – Know Your Mobile:

It must be a pretty odd undertaking being a handset manufacturer making your own flagship at the same time as creating Google’s Nexus-branded flagship, but that’s exactly what LG has done with the LG G2 and Google’s Nexus 5. While the Nexus name is widely recognised and well-regarded, LG is undergoing a re-branding excercise, dropping the Optimus moniker and simply running with LG G2.

The LG G2 combines incredible power with a unique design and a wonderful screen to present one of the most appealing Android phones we’ve tested. Read on to find out all the details and discover why this handset is so impressive.

As is often the case with older –– but still VERY decent –– handsets, now that the LG G3 is wid…………… continues on LG G2 Review: One of The BEST Android’s Money Can Buy – Know Your Mobile

LG Fx0 is a transparent phone running Firefox OS

LG Fx0 is a transparent phone running Firefox OS
News from GSMArena.com:

Mozilla’s Firefox OS has made its debut in Japan today, with the announcement of the Fx0. This oddly named smartphone manufactured by LG is designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, and it’s transparent. Literally.

As you can see from the image below, the Fx0 lets you peek at its internals without ever needing to take off a cover or something like that. And it’s also got a home button decorated with a golden version of the Firefox logo.

The Fx0 is certainly different from all previous Firefox OS phones, which have so far centered on being as cheap as possible. This one, though, is more of a design statement. That’s why it will also be the most expensive Firefox OS device we’ve seen so far, being priced at JPY 50,000 (that’s $ 414 or €340, by the way).

Aside from being transparent and all that, the Fx0 takes its design cues (the shape, mostly) from the LG G3, but it is smaller. It has a 4.7-inch IPS touchscreen, while its resolution hasn’t been made public yet.

The Fx0 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, aided by 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage space expandable via microSD cards. It sports an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2.1 MP front camera. It has a 2,…………… continues on GSMArena.com

LG G2 vs LG G3: Is Upgrading Worth It?
News from The Inquisitr:

When LG released its G2 Android smartphone in 2013, it was met with high praise from both techies and casual users alike. However, the G2 has a new competitor—and surprisingly, another LG phone is the culprit. With the release of the G3, the question becomes: should LG G2 owners upgrade to the G3 after such a short time?

The Body and Camera

The body of the G3 is slightly larger than the G2, though not by much. The G3 is also slightly heavier at 5.25 ounces compared to just under five ounces for the LG G2.

The cameras on the LG G2 and the G3 are virtually identical, both sporting a 13 megapixel camera. However, the G3’s camera has laser-guided autofocus and the phone itself has a 5.5 inch display that produces 538 pixels per inc…………… continues on The Inquisitr

LG’s tablet offering the G Pad 8.3

LG appears to be one of the tech companies who are getting their hands on the Firefox OS technology with their alleged new addition to the L Series smartphones.

Recent item from the rumor mill pointed out sketches of the purported handset along with a couple of screenshots depicting the device’s specification details which are being leaked online.

The leak was first propagated by @upleaks and was then picked up by a number of tech websites including that of GSMArena.com and NDTVGadgets.com.

According to GSMArena, the LG L25 will only be made available Japanese carrier KDDI which apparently means that it won’t be making its way to other territories.

“[LG L25 in] Firefox platform is mostly about budget devices so you shouldn’t expect anything groundbreaking,” the site meanwhile indicated.

As for what it would look like, the leaked images described the upcoming LG unit having a single home button, rear and front-facing cameras with flash and sensors, plus a speaker located at the lower right of the phone’s rear panel.

LG L25 Firefox OS phone leaked

LG L25 Firefox OS phone leaked
News from Phones Review:

This next item of news is more of a snippet, because there’s really not too much we can tell you at the moment. It regard some information about an LG phone running the Firefox OS that has been leaked, and it looks as though the LG L25 could be the company’s first Firefox handset.

The Firefox mobile operating system hasn’t grabbed any significant market share yet, but as a recent addition to mobile platforms we wouldn’t expect that. It has been mostly used so far on budget handsets, and so we don’t anticipate the LG L25 being anything to get too excited about in the way of specs.

The leak from @upleaks doesn’t give any details of specs or features so we’ll have to wait for more on that. However, it does give a sketch of the handset and a look at the user interface via some screenshots (see source). The phone won’t be widely available, and the tipster says that it will be headed to KDDI, a Japanese carrier.

Obviously none of the above can be confirmed at this stage, but hopefully we’ll be hearing more about this over the next few weeks. This could come either in the way of further leaks or maybe even an official unveiling or announcement about it at CES 2015 in January next year.

Are you surprised to hear that LG looks to be working on its first Firefox OS phone? Would you consider trying out the LG L25 if it were available in your region? Do…………… continues on Phones Review

LG’s first Firefox phone

LG’s first Firefox phone
News from CNET:

Created: 02/23/2014

Video description: MWC gave us a chance to check out LG’s first attempt at a Firefox OS device.

I’m Jessica Dolcourt with CNET here at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona looking at a bunch of Firefox OS phones. This one is the LG Fireweb. It was announced and launched in one market, Brazil, and that was in October, but this is the first time we’re seeing it. This is LG’s first Firefox phone. It runs version 1.1 of the operating system. It has a 4-inch screen with a pretty low resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. However the camera on the back is pretty hot for Firefox phones. It’s 5 megapixels and there’s a flash. The device looks kind of cool. On the back LG has actually gone to the effort to put some sort of holographic checkerboard so it sort of shimmers a little bit when you move it in the light. The phone is compact, easy to hold in one hand, easy to operate and I also like that it has this physical button here at the bottom which makes it much easier to get home. The other thing I will say is that this is running on a 1 gigahertz Qualcomm processor under the hood so it’s not a very fast phone and your data speeds are really gonna determine how fast it is to use. I’m Jessica Dolcourt for CNET taking a First Look at the LG Fireweb.

LG G2 mini: First impressions from MWC 2014
News from TrustedReviews:

LG G2 mini shows that size does matter

The LG G2 mini is small in name but not so in stature.

The spinoff handset follows in the footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini and HTC One mini – borrowing the branding of a flagship Android phone while moving to a smaller footprint and reduced spec.

Unlike the rival ‘minis’, however – both of which are 4.3-inches in size – the LG G2 mini is still a bit of a beast. Its 4.7-inch display is parallel in size to the flagship HTC One, but down on the 5.2-inch LG G2.

With UK pricing and availability still to be announced, I had a play with the LG G2 mini at MWC 201…………… continues on TrustedReviews

LG F240 leaked, another 1080p smartphone display
News from Tapscape:

With the Droid DNA becoming the first US phone to have a 1080p display, it seems the race is on for the next valiant manufacturer to build a similar or better display to outmatch HTC and Verizon’s baby. The leak, from GLBenchmark, shows a device named the LG F240 that has a 1080p display.

The LG Optimus G was the top Android display, for a few weeks, then Verizon and HTC rolled out their Droid DNA, a giant 5-inch smartphone with an impressive design and display. We have already said that the HTC Droid DNA beats every single smartphone on the market in terms of display by a massive 100ppi.

According to the leak, the LG F240 will have 1080p display and a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the same as the Droid DNA does. Additionally, the LG F240 has an Adreno 320 GPU to smooth gaming and g…………… continues on Tapscape
