LG’s 2015 flagship phone will feature an insane 3K resolution display

LG’s 2015 flagship phone will feature an insane 3K resolution display
News from BGR:

If you thought that 2K resolution is a bit too much for a smartphone featuring a display that’s barely bigger than 5 inches diagonally, then you might be shocked to learn handset makers aren’t stopping there. MyLGPhones has discovered a file on LG’s website that seems to indicate the upcoming LG G4’s display will have a 3K resolution.

FROM EARLIER: Leaked schematics may have revealed the Galaxy S6’s new design

Specifically, the user agent profile lists an LG-VS999 handset with a 2880 x 1620 screen. Comparatively, the LG G3 has a 2560…………… continues on BGR

LG G4′s appeal will be all about design and the camera
News from TechRadar:

Making a phone stand out isn’t easy, but for the LG G4 the design and camera are going to be its key draws.

During its recent earnings call, LG claimed that its upcoming LG G4 flagship Android phone will separate itself with these handset design and camera tech elements.

Your first assumption on the design front might be a move to a metal phone shell, but don’t be too hasty.

The G4 sibling LG G Flex 2 has already been officially announced, and bears the same plastic outer we usually see in LG phones.

A self-healing back, seen in the original G Flex, is one possible solution, while LG’s signature rear buttons are likely to allow LG to maintain an incredibly skinny bezel for an all-screen front-on look.

Lights, camera, action

And for the camera? Rumours indicate the LG G4 will have a 16-megapixel sensor with optical image stabilisation.

Quite how such a setup separates the G4 from the pack remains a mystery.

Tap on, turn off: LG’s ‘knock’ feature coming to low-end phones

Tap on, turn off: LG’s ‘knock’ feature coming to low-end phones
News from GMA News:

Soon, users of lower-cost LG phones need not use just the power button to turn their gadgets on or off – they can also tap or “knock” on the screens twice to do so.

LG said the feature dubbed Knock, initially available only on its flagship G2 phone, is being ported to the more affordable L Series II phones, IntoMobile.com reported.

“Knock allows users to turn the smartphone on and off by tapping twice on the display. After G2 got, the next device to ship with this capability was the LG G Pad 8.3 followed by the G Flex curved smartphone,” it said.

“The reaction of audiences was apparently so positive that a version for the L Series II was developed to reach as many customers as possible,” it added.

The site said Knock will be included in a Maintenance Release upgrade that will roll out starting January.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics’ Mobile Communications Company, said Knock is “a great example of what happens when you marry the latest in mobile technology with consumer-centric insights.”

“No one ever thought that a power button…………… continues on GMA News

LG makes Knock a standard feature on its smart phones
News from CNET UK:

The LG G2 is quite a phone, with a ridiculously powerful chip, and great battery life. But it also debuted a new feature for LG — you could wake up the handset just by double-tapping the screen. Well you’ll soon be able to do the same with all of LG’s smart phones, as the company has announced it’s making it a standard feature.

The LG L Series II will be the first range of handsets to get the ‘Knock’ feature retroactively through a maintenance release, starting in January. Is this the end of buttons as we know them?

As well as the LG G2, Knock (formerly known as KnockON) featured on LG’s G Pad 8.3 tablet, and the G Flex curved sm…………… continues on CNET UK

LG Mobile hints at upcoming ‘new series’ that will feature an ‘unexpected …
News from PhoneDog:

Love surprises? Then you’ll be excited to hear that that’s exactly what LG has up it sleeve. The company recent took to the official LG Mobile Facebook page to post a teaser image that features a red bow and the declaration “New series will be unveiled.” The description of the image invites us to “see what surprise LG has in store” and teases that said surprise has “an unexpected distinction.”

There’s no mention on the page of exactly when LG’s surprise will be revealed, but with Mobile World Congress slated to kick off later this month, that show seems like as good a place as any for LG to show off something new. Exactly what that something is is still a mystery for now, though.

Last year at MWC, LG took the wraps off of its new Optimus L-Series li…………… continues on PhoneDog

New LG Phone to Feature Top-Quality Parts from Subsidiaries

New LG Phone to Feature Top-Quality Parts from Subsidiaries
News from The Chosun Ilbo:

LG Electronics is developing a smartphone to the direct specifications of chairman Koo Bon-moo that will be made from the parts manufactured by subsidiaries LG Display, LG Chem and LG Innotek.

It will be the first LG smartphone to feature a quad-core processor and a camera with over 10 megapixels resolution.

Koo reportedly complained a year ago that LG Electronics did not make enough use of the parts manufactured by other subsidiaries of the group, even though they are widely sought-after by other firms. He singled out LG Display and LG Chem, which supply essential parts to global companies including Apple.

LG plans to release the new phone in September.

LG Optimus 3D Max
News from Digit:

We have always maintained this – 3D on smartphones is something that isn’t going to appeal to most users. There are a couple of reasons for this – first, people don’t need 3D on phones and second, because for the same amount of money, you will get a non-3D smartphone that will offer better performance overall. All this makes the 3D sequel from LG a little more difficult to judge.

Build & Design
The Optimus 3D Max has a very uninspiring design, and no facet of it betrays the device’s 3D capabilities. The front has the 4.3-inch display flanked by a black bezel. There are four touch sensitive keys below the display, which light up when touched, but there is no marking on the phone itself indicating which key is where, beforehand.

Look closely from the sides, and you will notice that LCD does stick out quite a bit, which becomes a bit more profound with the Gorilla Glass 2 treatment. When swiping across the screen, you will hit a thin border – the plastic border that frames the glass.

High-end Korean phones feature Android 2.3, cool cameras
News from LinuxDevices.com:
Two high-end Android 2.3 smartphones were unveiled in Korea by HTC and LG this week. The HTC Raider 4G features a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.5-inch IPS (in-plane switching) display, 4G LTE, and an eight-megapixel camera with a 28mm lens attachment, while the LG Optimus Q2 sports a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a slide-out keyboard, and a four-inch IPS display with 700-nit brightness.

South Koreans embraced the smartphone concept early, with the help of a robust early implementation of 3G, and their taste in phones remain demanding. A number of smartphone breakthroughs have debuted first in Korea, including the world’s first dual-core handset, the Android-based LG Optimus 2X…………… continues on LinuxDevices.com
