QuickMemo lets you jot down notes and draw doodles with your fingers on top of the phone’s screen image (though virtual notebook paper is an option too).

To access QuickMemo on the Elite, you’ll have to push and hold both buttons of the volume rocker. Four different brush types and 16 colors are at your disposal as well, and you can save and send your memos via e-mail, text, Bluetooth, and more.

Apple gains users, but Samsung still the mobile-phone leader
News from CNET:

Mobile-phone stats from ComScore show a decline in market share for Samsung in the June quarter. But the Korean manufacturer still reigns supreme.

(Credit: ComScore)

Apple scored the greatest gain in market share among cell phone makers last quarter but was stuck in third place behind Samsung and LG.

Looking at the three months ending with June, ComScore pegged Apple with a 15.4 percent share of the U.S. mobile-phone market, up from 14 percent the prior three months. Such growth surpassed that of the other top three players, each of which saw a dip in market share.

Samsung’s chunk of the market fell to 25.6 percent from 26 percent, but the company remained the dominant player. In second place was LG with an 18.8 percent share, down from 19.3 percent the prior three months.

Over the same period, Motorola took home an 11.7 percent share, down from 12.8 percent. Though in fifth place, HTC eked out a small gain with a share of 6.4 percent, up from 6 percent. Overall, 234 million Americans age 13 and older were users of mobile phones for the quarter.

Samsung has seen huge demand for its Galaxy class phones. But with a

LG Optimus Elite (Virgin Mobile)

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

LG Optimus Elite (Virgin Mobile)
News from PC Magazine:

Though undeniably low-end on other carriers (like Sprint), the $ 149.99 LG Optimus Elite falls right into the middle of Virgin Mobile’s smartphone lineup. For just $ 20 more than the LG Optimus V ($ 129.99, 4 stars), the Elite gets you a larger display, a faster processor, and a better camera. It’s no great shakes compared with many other new Android phones on the market, but the LG Optimus Elite is a fine way to get connected with an affordable service plan from Virgin.

Design and Call Quality
The Optimus Elite measures 4.6 by 2.5 by 0.4 inches (HWD) and weighs 4.3 ounces. It’s a comfortable size to hold and handle, especially if you aren’t a fan of king-sized phones. The all-plastic construction feels a bit chintzy, but the black, textured back panel and silver plastic surrounding the glass face look fairly innocuous. The 3.5-inch, 480-by-320 pixel capacitive touch screen is fine, but the lower resolution can make for some jagged text. There are four haptic feedback-enabled touch keys beneath the display…………… continues on PC Magazine

LG Optimus Elite ‘Earth Day’ Green Phone Launches on Sprint at $29

LG Optimus Elite ‘Earth Day’ Green Phone Launches on Sprint at $ 29
News from Technology Bloom News:

In a move we would personally like to see more smartphone manufacturers employ, consumer electronics manufacturer LG Mobile US has created an environmentally friendly 3G handset for the Sprint 3G wireless network. Sprint and LG have teamed up to release the device on Sunday, April 22, which this year is Earth Day in the United States and North America. The LG Optimus Elite is one of only a few current handsets which deliver Near Frequency Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box. That technology teams up with the Google Wallet payment processing app to provide nontraditional cash-free and charge card-free payment options at participating NFC supporting brick and mortar retail outlets.

Launching at a retail price of $ 29 at select Sprint online retail outlets with a standard new two-year activation and data plan, the LG Optimus Elite “Green” phone ships in a fully recyclable box. The actual physical makeup of the handset also receives the highest possible environmentally friendly designation of ULE Platinum Certification. The handset is composed of 50% recycled plastics, and offers RoHS (restriction of haza…………… continues on Technology Bloom News

Hands On: LG Optimus Elite for Sprint and Virgin

Hands On: LG Optimus Elite for Sprint and Virgin
News from PC Magazine:

We got to check out LG’s eco-friendly Optimus Elite for Sprint and Virgin. Here’s what we saw.

Sprint and Virgin Mobile recently announced the LG Optimus Elite, a new, inexpensive, eco-friendly Android smartphone. PCMag got a chance to see both phones up close.

The green features are really being played up on these phones, so let’s look at those first. For starters, the Optimus Elite is ULE Platinum Certified, which is the highest level of environmental performance recognized by sustainable requirements established by UL Environment and Sprint. The phone’s casing is made of 50 percent recycled plastic, and is RoHS compliant, which means it is free from many potentially hazardous materials such as halogens, mercury, phthalates, and PVC.

The phone also comes with a charger that exceeds the EC Code of Conduct on energy efficiency when it comes to no-load consumption. Unlike many other chargers, the Optimus Elite’s charger only consumes 0.03 watts of power when plugged into a wall socket…………… continues on PC Magazine

LG Lucid Review: Solid 4G LTE Smartphone for First Time Users – Gotta Be Mobile
News from LG Lucid Review: Solid 4G LTE Smartphone for First Time Users – Gotta Be Mobile:

The LG Lucid on Verizon Wireless is an affordable 4G LTE Android smartphone with the first time smartphone owner in mind.

The Lucid may not have all the bells and whistles found on phones 2-3 times its price, but it does offer a fast 4G LTE connection, good battery life, solid build quality and an attractive upfront cost.

LG and Verizon promise that the Lucid will see an update to Android 4.0, the current Android operating system, but that shouldn’t be a deciding factor for shoppers interested in the Lucid.

The cost of a new smartphone is a minor part of the overall cost of ownership, so the $ 79.99 price after rebate is not the only thing to consider when looking at the LG Lucid.

I would not recommend the Lucid to my media loving sister, but it would be near the top of a list of phones recommended to my mother or my father-in-law had he not just purchased a $ 120 flip phone to avoid another data plan.

Read on to find out if the LG Lucid can meet the needs of new smartphone owners.

LG Viper 4G LTE: Eco-Friendly, Fast, but No LTE–Yet
News from PCWorld:

Click a photo to enlarge. The LG Viper ($ 100 with a new two-year contract from Sprint; price as of 4/12/12) is Sprint’s very first LTE phone. But the Android-running Viper is a little early to the game: Sprint hasn’t rolled out its 4G LTE network yet. Despite being stuck with 3G speeds, though, the affordable LG Viper packs some high-quality specs for the price. The dual-core processor handled everything I threw at it with ease, the 5-megapixel camera took good pictures, and the addition of Google Wallet is not too shabby.

LG Optimus Elite pics surface for Sprint, Virgin Mobile NFC phone
News from CNET:

Despite its misleading name, the LG Optimus Elite should still offer NFC on a budget.

by Scott Webster March 30, 2012 10:15 AM PDT

The LG Optimus Elite should be a budget-friendly Android with NFC support.

(Credit: Pocketnow)

A pair of newly leaked renders arrived online this week, providing a clear look at the next LG smartphone, aimed for both Sprint and subsidiary Virgin Mobile. Despite its name — the LG Optimus Elite — early details suggest that the smartphone is anything but fancy.

The rumored specifications suggest a 3.2-inch HVGA display, a 5-megapixel camera with flash, a slower 800MHz processor, and NFC support. Although it isn’t clear which version of Android the Optimus Elite runs, the screenshots clearly indicate that it won’t be 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The photos suggest it’ll be an almost pure Gingerbread experience, with only Sprint ID/Mobile ID on top.

LG Lucid (Verizon Wireless)
News from PC Magazine:

The LG Lucid ($ 79.99) may be a budget Android smartphone for Verizon Wireless, but it never seems inexpensive. It wasn’t too long ago that 4G LTE data, 1080p video recording, and a dual-core processor were considered high-end, even if cutting edge handsets are just now moving past those specs. That makes the Lucid a good choice if you don’t need the absolute fastest speeds or latest features, but don’t want to miss out on anything important either.

Design and Call Quality
The LG Lucid measures 4.69 by 2.45 by 0.45 inches (HWD) and weighs 5 ounces. The shell is made entirely of glossy plastic, and appears completely black from the front. There’s an attractive, maroon-colored fade on the tapered back panel that gives the Lucid a classier, more translucent look, at least from that angle.

LG Optimus Elite pictured – doesn’t sound too Elite

LG Optimus Elite pictured – doesn’t sound too Elite
News from Android Community:

A new phone from LG has been leaked today in a set of official renders or press images. Being called the LG Optimus Elite although I’d go as far as to call it much less than that. We’ve seen reports on this phone before with a rumored name of the LG Optimus Net and Gelato, but we can now confirm this phone and its “Elite” status.

Made available to the folks at Pocket Now this phone will be launching on both the Now Network, and Virgin Mobile in the next couple of months. Most likely late April or sometime in May. The Elite will feature a measly 800 Mhz single-core processor, a 3.2-inch HVGA display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and be paired with a 5 megapixel camera and LED flash.

Looking at the image is that a mirror of some sort next to the camera? Like those old Sony Ericsson phones from 2007? (I loved my k750i) It looks pretty weird to be a speaker grill. One good thing here is the phone will be very competitively priced, and it better be with dual-core LTE phones like the LG Lucid being released on Verizon today for only $ 79. One feature you wont want to miss on the LG Optimus Elite is the phone is NFC capable and can take advantage of those Optimus Tags, or Android Beam if…………… continues on Android Community

LG Display Starts to Produce Bendable E-Paper Displays.
News from X-bit Labs:

LG Display on Thursday said that it had started mass production of the world’s first plastic electronic paper display (EPD) for use in e-book reader readers. The new display is foldable, therefore, very durable, and very thin, which will allow to make e-readers thinner.

The 6″ XGA (1024-768), e-ink, plastic EPD is expected to revolutionize the e-book reader market with its advancements in functionality and design. The world’s first plastic EPD from LG Display offers users a paper-like reading experience with a plastic substrate that is as slim as cell phone protection film, and a flexible design that allows bending at a range of 40 degrees from the center of the screen. Compared to glass EPD of the same size and resolution, LG Display’s plastic EPD realizes a super slim thickness of 0.7mm which is 33% slimmer than existing glass EPD; as well as a weight of 14g which is more than 50% lighter.

E-book reader users have long expressed a desire for more durable EPD, since around 10% of them have damaged their product screens from accidentally dropping or hitting them. When LG Display’s plastic EPD was put through repeated drop tests, from 1.5m above the ground or the average height of reading when standing, no damage resulted. When put through a break/scratch test involving hitting the display with a small urethane hammer, no scratches or breakage resulted. continues on X-bit Labs
