LG, Samsung: We’re not done with 3D yet
News from CNET:

3D smartphones may seem like little more than a gimmick, but behind the scenes, smartphone researchers see a very real future.

3D phones may not have exactly caught on like wildfire here in the U.S., but that isn’t going to stop engineers at LG and Samsung from innovating around it.

In fact, representatives for the rival Korean manufacturers both had something to say to me about 3D image technology for smartphones, and it doesn’t stop at playing 3D golf games or watching “Avatar” on your phone without those dorky 3D glasses.

In fact, those use cases, which formed the cornerstone of the marketing campaigns for the LG Thrill 4G and the HTC Evo 3D, are just the beginning.

Instead, Nick DiCarlo, Samsung’s vice president of product planning, sees mobile 3D technology as a gateway to more immersive entertainment in the coming years.

Just think of a smartphone that can simultaneously power 3D…………… continues on CNET

LG Optimus 4X HD
News from PC Magazine:

The new quad-core LG Optimus 4X HD looks to be the best of LG’s batch of upcoming smartphones. It will likely be the first Nvidia Tegra 3 phone to hit the U.S. market. It’s packing a quad-core processor running at 1.5GHz, along with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and a large 2150mAh battery. There’s an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front. NFC is on board as well.

The 4X HD has a 4.7-inch, 1280-by-720 IPS screen that looks super sharp. Its 313 pixels per inch is slightly less than the iPhone 4S’s 326, but you still can’t see the individual pixels. It’s narrow for a huge phone, so it may be more usable one-handed than other extra-large devices.

We saw a demo unit of the 4X at MWC that was loaded with all of the Tegra 3 sample games on it, including the puzzle game Sprinkle and the racing game Riptide GP. They were both as smooth and gorgeous, with as beautiful atmospheric effects, as we’ve seen on the Tegra 3-powered Asus Transformer Prime tablet.

LG hasn’t announced a release date or carriers for the Optimus 4X HD, although the company didn’t headline it as an LTE device. Considering that LG’s Optimus 2X came to…………… continues on PC Magazine

LG rejected Android pole position insider reveals
News from SlashGear:

LG, not HTC, was to be Google’s original partner on the first commercial Android smartphone, according to the latest industry rumors, with Android chief Andy Rubin being forced to turn to the then-little-known Taiwanese firm after LG backed out of the deal. Although negotiations had begun in early 2007 for hardware partners, a source tells the WSJ, first-choice LG opted out midway through the year leaving HTC to pick up the reins. It’s a decision which hindsight suggests did LG no favors, given HTC subsequently rode Android to its current prominence.

Although no reason for LG’s decision not to continue with Google on the Android project is given, the company’s existing touchscreen cellphone plans are …………… continues on SlashGear
