LG G3 smart phone smokes Amazon Fire in Consumer Reports’ tests
News from ConsumerReports.org:

We’ve just completed our tests of Amazon’s first smart phone, the Fire, and LG’s latest flagship model, the G3. Both phones are outstanding in their own ways, with unique and compelling features that should dazzle tech fans. But their designs reflect radically different views on what a smart phone should be. As the headline implies, Consumer Reports testers determined that the G3’s approach gets much closer to the target.

Amazon Fire

The Fire is all things Amazon, heavily integrated with Amazon Prime, Apps, Kindle, and more. Several unique capabilities make it easy, and even fun, to spend money with the retail giant.

For example Firefly, an onboard app, scans objects or listens to songs, then finds them in Amazon’s immense retail and digital content so you can buy them. Another intriguing technology, Dynamic Perspective, can make certain flat images appear three-dimensional on the phone’s 4.7-inch display, allowing you to view them from different angles as you tilt the phone in various ways. You can also scroll up and down Web pages, summon app menu options, or view messages and other notifications by jerking or tilting the phone.

But battery life is much shorter than on many other phones from Samsung, LG, and others, including the G3. Also, the Fire’s unique and somewhat unintuit…………… continues on ConsumerReports.org

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: Review comparing Specs, Prices & Battery Life
News from StreetWise Tech:

Cellular phones of yesterday have been just great for sending plus obtaining calls and even generating along with acquiring incoming telephone calls. These days, the cell phones does things that were just fantasy to all of us over a 10 years before, and this will keep on in the future.

Display and Design

The Samsung Galaxy S5 upgraded the Galaxy S4′s design by a lot. Say farewell to the cheap plastic feel and hello to a new matte finish, which, while still plastic, provides a much better overall look. Add to that a removable back cover and the ability to insert an extended battery. Plus, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has support for microSD cards of up to 128 GB, so storage space is a thing of the past. Display-wise, Samsung’s new display used in the Galaxy S5 is simply put one of the best on the market. The 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display comes with a full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a PPI of 432. In addition, multiple display modes (such as the battery-saving black and white mode or the Super Bright Mode that makes sunlight viewing easy) ensure that the Galaxy S5 truly shines when it comes to visual quality. The LG G2 unfortunately brings a glossy plastic cover that doesn’t look bad, but attracts fingerprints like no other phone. No microSD support is included, and the fact that you can’t install an extended battery is also a huge minus. That being s…………… continues on StreetWise Tech

Consumer Cellular Adds 2ND Smartphone
News from Twice:

By Joseph Palenchar — TWICE, 1/30/2012

Portland, Ore. – Consumer Cellular, which targets the 50-plus age group with an unusual no-contract postpaid service, has launched its second smartphone as part of a planned smartphone expansion.

The MVNO launched the Android-based 3G LG Thrive at $ 90 plus a one-time $ 35 activation fee. It joins the company’s first smartphone, the 3G Motorola Bravo, whose price was just reduced to $ 140 plus $ 35 activation fee.

The Android-based Bravo, which was the company’s first 3G phone, was originally launched last year at $ 165.

In 2012, the company will make the switch to an all-3G lineup and expand its smartphone selection while it continues to expand beyond its direct-to-consumer roots by rolling out sales through online and brick-and-mortar retailers, CEO John Marick previously told TWICE.

The Thrive features a 3.2-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera and camcorder, access to the Android Market for apps, and the preloaded subscribers-only My Consumer Cellular app, which lets users access billing and account information, usage stats and scan-capable AARP information for member benefits

Market promo pushes LG mobile sales up by 75 percent
News from BusinessDay:

LG electronics says it recorded 75 percent growth sales on its mobile phones in the last quarter of 2011 in the Nigerian market. The increase in sales of various brands of its mobile phones was induced by the market promo the company organised within November and December last year. The star prize of the promo was a four-day all expenses trip to Dubai for two couples.

The promo was a reward system to the company’s customers and a platform to allow its variants of mobile phones, which are not as popular as its television sets, to penetrate the Nigerian bourgeoning market.
Though the company did not disclose the exact income from the sales, but said that the Dubai trip attracted a lot of consumers, pan Nigeria. “Within the promotion, we accounted for more sales,” Bukola Arabome, marketing manager, LG Mobile, told BusinessDay.

At the promo draw  last week to determine various winners of 110 prizes on stake, Jimoh Akeem Ayodeji and Adeseye Debo won the trip to Dubai, while Olusegun Joan Ebun and Balarebe Lamido were among those that won 3D LG phone. Other prizes won included 42 inches television, fridges, microwave and other types of mobile phones.

To qualify for the promo, a customer had to buy LG mobile phone and got raffle ticket. Over the time, firms have offered concession to customers as a way of w…………… continues on BusinessDay
