New Nexus phone might have separate LG and Huawei models, suggests report
News from Stuff Magazine:

It may be some time before we know anything: the Motorola-made Nexus 6 just released in October, and it seems unlikely that we’ll see another model before autumn. And whatever comes of this, it’s unlikely to be called the “Nexus 7,” seeing as Google and Asus already released a pair of tablets under that name. It’ll be time to finally shake up the naming scheme, it seems.

Splitting the annual Nexus release between two different handsets would be new, but there’s sense to be made here. After all, the Nexus 6 opted to be big and expensive, while previous Nexus phones aimed to deliver flagship quality at more approachable prices. Having a pricey flagship and a less-equipped contemporary would potentially appease more consumers.

Android Lollipop Coming to Motorola, HTC, LG, Samsung, and Nexus Phones …
News from Christian Post:

Google/Twitter/Image

Google’s latest mobile operating system, the Android Lollipop is soon to be released to the public but which phones will be getting the updates when it comes out? Much like Android KitKat, it generally depends on what make your phone is and to which carrier you are subscribed but it would seem that most phone manufacturers are already planning to update users to Lollipop when it comes out.

Google’s Nexus line will probably be the first smartphones to get the Lollipop update, whereas the Nexus 6 smartphone and the Nexus 9 tablet already have Android Lollipop out of the box. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 are slated to get the update and while there haven’t been any announcements, early November is looking to be a probable date.

HTC on the other hand is planning to get the One M8 and One M7 to Android Lollipop and Jeff Gordon, the company’s global online communications manager, has announced that both phones will be getting the upgrade within 90 days of the software’s release.

Motorola is planning to get Android Lollipop to a large number of their devices, namely the first and second generation Moto X, the Moto G, the Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini.

Why the LG G2 with 4G LTE could be the darkhorse in 2014 smartphone race in …
News from Firstpost:

Let’s face it: we are itching to see what 4G LTE is all about? The promise of high-speed internet has got us salivating, just as the 3G launch did in the last decade. As 3G phones become commonplace, 4G is hitting India in a big way this year.

The first phones to benefit from the inaugural 4G wave were the two iPhones – 5s and 5c – as Airtel launched mobile 4G in India, starting with Bangalore. And now there’s a third contender (also with Airtel’s 4G services), which could just be the darkhorse in the smartphone race.

We aren’t calling the LG G2 a darkhorse because it’s not good enough or because LG doesn’t have a great market share. In fact, the phone is very good as we have said in the past and LG has climbed the rankings on the back of it…………… continues on Firstpost

Report: LG G Pro 2 With 3GB RAM and 6-inch Display Coming to MWC

Sunday, January 26th, 2014

Report: LG G Pro 2 With 3GB RAM and 6-inch Display Coming to MWC
News from Droid Life:

According to Korean media, LG will introduce the G Pro 2 next month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. As you may recall, they introduced the original G Pro (“Optimus” G Pro) in February of last year, so if we’re talking yearly cycles of phones, the time frame certainly matches up. Last year’s G Pro sort of skated under the radar, even though it featured a 5.5-inch 1080p display and was mostly a beast in terms of specs. Then again, LG has almost always tried to pack in top-of-the-line specs, yet has struggled to grab much of the Android market share.

So this new G Pro 2 is expected to carry a 6-inch 1080p display, be powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor, with 3GB RAM, and run Android 4.4 “Kit Kat.” All of those specs seem like solid improvements over last year’s model. Can LG do something specific with the phone to turn it into a star like the Galaxy Note series? That, my friends, is the question that all OEMs outside of Samsung would love to have an answer for.

Phones keep getting bigger – are you still interested in oversized devices? Or, how about overly, ridiculously-sized, devices?

Note – Image is of the original G Pro.

LG G Pad 8.3 with Verizon 4G LTE bands stops by the FCC
News from Phandroid.com:

What with the nearly-pocketable Nexus 7 2014 coming in LTE varities, we suppose it was only inevitable that LG’s similar sized/spec’d tab would follow suit. Yesterday, the LG VK810 ( LG G Pad 8.3) made a pit stop by the FCC, supporting Verizon Wireless’ LTE bands, as well as GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi a/b/g/n and the like.

While “ LG G Pad 8.3″ wasn’t specifically listed in the paperwork, the dimensions line up perfectly with LG’s 8-inch tablet. Expect an official announcement in the coming weeks.

Ready for the LG G3? Report Says It’s Coming in May
News from Droid Life:

After a decent year for LG, but one that still saw Samsung dominate headlines and sales charts with its line of Galaxy phones, the company may be moving towards a May release of its next flagship, potentially called the G3. According to a report from Korean media, the new May release time frame will be done specifically to put it close to Samsung’s April launch of the Galaxy S5.

As you may recall, the G2 was only released in late September as LG’s newest flagship, a device we are actually quite fond of here at DL. With its solid camera, amazing display, incredible battery life, and unmatched performance, one could argue that it’s as good as any other phone on the market. LG G Flex screen defect leads to bumpy displays
News from Phandroid.com:

LG’s G Flex smartphone uses a forward-thinking flexible display, but is the technology still a bit ahead of its time? A new report from The Korea Times explores what seems to be a common screen defect associated with the smartphone: small bumps forming on the display. [Watch our LG G Flex hands-on]

The problem typically manifests as two bumps on the display, according to a Korean mobile retailer who has seen the issue affect nearly every G Flex to come through his shop. The bumps should disappear over time, according to LG. The company, acknowledging the issue, suggests that massaging the lumps out of the display is typically effective.

The formation of defects is directly related to the G Flex’s flexible display technology. LG says the bumps are a result of excessive force and stresses on the device and warns that applying such pressure is not recommended. LG sees the phone’s flexibility as a way to make the device more durable, not as a nifty party trick (at least not at this stage). A spokesperson for the Korea Display Industry Association claims LG was well aware of issues related to their curved OLED display, and while hesitant to do so decided to…………… continues on Phandroid.com

Tap on, turn off: LG’s ‘knock’ feature coming to low-end phones

Tap on, turn off: LG’s ‘knock’ feature coming to low-end phones
News from GMA News:

Soon, users of lower-cost LG phones need not use just the power button to turn their gadgets on or off – they can also tap or “knock” on the screens twice to do so.

LG said the feature dubbed Knock, initially available only on its flagship G2 phone, is being ported to the more affordable L Series II phones, IntoMobile.com reported.

“Knock allows users to turn the smartphone on and off by tapping twice on the display. After G2 got, the next device to ship with this capability was the LG G Pad 8.3 followed by the G Flex curved smartphone,” it said.

“The reaction of audiences was apparently so positive that a version for the L Series II was developed to reach as many customers as possible,” it added.

The site said Knock will be included in a Maintenance Release upgrade that will roll out starting January.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics’ Mobile Communications Company, said Knock is “a great example of what happens when you marry the latest in mobile technology with consumer-centric insights.”

“No one ever thought that a power button…………… continues on GMA News

LG Optimus G Pro vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2, phablet battle
News from Phones Review:

The birth of the phablet device back in 2011 has seen a growing craze for larger screen smartphones that offer consumers the perfect device, and can often do away with the need of carrying around both a tablet and a smartphone at the same time. Today we are looking at the new kid on the block the LG Optimus G Pro against the current market leader, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Since its release in the second half of last year the Galaxy Note 2 has gained a good reputation from reviewers and owners alike, and rightly so as the device has some great features packed into its shell. Now though there is another new handset due to be released in the coming few weeks in the shape of the LG Optimus G Pro, which gives consumers another phablet to choose from.

New comScore stats show Apple passing LG to become number two phone …
News from PhoneDog:

It’s been a few months since we last checked in on research firm comScore’s market share stats for the U.S., so that’s precisely what we’ll do on this fine Friday evening. ComScore has released its market share report for the three-month period starting in July 2012 and ending in October 2012 and, at least on the phone OEM side of things, there actually was a bit of a shake-up in the standings this time around.

Samsung once again finished atop the OEM mountain with a 26.3 percent share, a growth of 0.7 percent from July to October. Moving into second place is Apple, which managed to grow 1.5 percent, enough to end up with a 17.8 percent share and leapfrog LG for the silver position in the standings. LG’s share of the market dropped 0.8 percent to finish at 17.6 percent, giving it third place. We’ve watched in recent months as LG has
