LG flagship for Q1 dubbed GK, Optimus G2 comes later
News from Phones Review:

At CES last week we heard plenty of interesting news about upcoming smartphones but one phone that we expected to hear about and failed to materialize was the LG Optimus G2. Many had been anticipating its arrival for around spring time but now we have heard of a different LG phone, for now dubbed the LG GK, and it seems this phone is now heading for a Q1 release while the Optimus G2 will launch later in the fall.

We first heard of the LG GK back in October where we told of a mystery device that was to be released in Q1. In November we heard the first rumblings of the Optimus G2 with rumors saying it could come as early as May and many tech enthusiasts were caught out when it didn’t show up at CES. Of course if the GK is coming out soon it would make sense that the Optimus G2 might be deferre…………… continues on Phones Review

Rumor: LG plans full HD phone for Q1, Optimus G2 will come in fall
News from Android Authority:

If you thought that LG’s next flagship smartphone release would be the Optimus G2, think again.

It looks like LG will hit the market with a new high-end smartphone in the first quarter of 2013. The phone, codenamed GK, will feature a 5.5-inch full HD screen and a quad-core processor. Judging by these specs, the device is one to keep an eye on leading up to its launch. It’s very likely that we’ll see this GK phone at the upcoming fair Mobile World Congress in late February.

LG’s display making unit has taken to CES 2013 to show off its 5.5-inch full HD display, which is likely to equip the next flagship device from the Koreans.

Word from South Korean news agency Yonhap News is that LG’s goal with the device’s first quarter release is to carve out a bigger share of the market by releasing before the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Apple iPhone 5S. That seems to be the same strategy th…………… continues on Android Authority

LG Optimus 4X HD comes in mid-June

LG Optimus 4X HD comes in mid-June
News from Fudzilla:

€499 preorders at Amazon

LG was the phone maker to offer a dual-core phone with last year’s LG Optimus 2X, the first phone to ship with Tegra 2, but in 2012, LG missed the change to be the first with a quad-core phone.

First to ship quad-core based phones was Taiwanese HTC and we are hearing that international version of HTC One X is selling just fine. LG has just announced that its LG Optimus 4X HD will become available in June, with availability by mid-June and the official price is sky high, €649 to be precise.

However, German branch of Amazon has this phone listed for preorders for €499 which is much more competitive and good price. Just two days ago Samsung has came out with Galaxy S III phone, yet another quad-core with a very nice spec and LG won’t have an easy time competing with Sammy.

Having a €499 price versus Galaxy S III at €599 is a good start, but we have to wait and see if LG Optimus 4X HD can live to its expectations. Optimus 4X HD comes with micro SD slot, 2150 mA replaceable battery and 4.7-inch true IPS display with 1280×720 resolution.

We are not sure what LG wanted to say with this picture, as the phone looks absolutely huge, which probably has more to do with the choice of lens and the petit model used in the shot.

A Facebook Phone? You’re Kidding, Right?
News from PCWorld:

I normally don’t comment on rumors, and I have no direct knowledge of any initiatives related to the topic at hand today, so let’s put this one in the realm of hypothetical strategy. We do a lot of strategy work here at Farpoint Group; I think the setting of grand objectives and the derivation of the plans, techniques, procedures, resoruces, tools, and risk/reward analysis to achieve those objectives is a lot of fun and really at the essence of making any business work. And I think in the early days of setting a new direction with respect to all of this, which can be a long, involved process even at smaller firms, all options should be on the table. That’s why I often like to start these projects with brainstorming sessions, where no idea is too crazy for consideration. At one firm I was involved with we did this annually, and called it “Entrepreneur Day” Tons of new, novel, and even patentable ideas came up. It was often hard to decide which represented the optimal path to growth, profitability, image, or whatever we were optimizing for at the time. And even ideas that were initially crazy evolved, on occasion, into something practical.

LG shrugs off doubt, comes back with vengeance
News from Korea Times:

Chairman boosts can-do spirit in workforce, affiliates respond with better bottom lines

By Kim Yoo-chul

LG Group is recovering with the group’s export-driven affiliates including LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Chem and LG Innotek leading the way.

And the industrial conglomerate is set for another impressive chapter in its story this year led by Chairman Koo Bon-moo as it is returning to basics ― a technology-driven corporation.

Koo is the eldest grandson of LG Group founder Koo In-hwe and has been in his current post since 1995. He is credited with boosting the group’s sales four-fold and its market capitalization 10 times.

“Last year wasn’t good. But this year we have no doubt that the group will regain its power buoyed by the brighter performance of LG Group companies. That’s partly due to the chairman’s consistent request for technology,’’ sai…………… continues on Korea Times

LG: LTE, 3D, HD and quad-core chips will restore our phone brand
News from GigaOm:

“I think LTE, high-definition and quad-core will be the key words this year. With fine-tuned technology and strategies, LG will recover our once-lost brand awareness,’’

That’s the plan for 2012, according to Park Jong-seok, head of LG’s handset division, in a comment to The Korea Times. Park said the company plans to sell 80 million handsets this year; 35 million of which will be smartphones and 8 million of those to have LTE capabilities.

The company’s smartphone division has undergone some challenges over the past two years. In 2010, LG’s CEO resigned mainly due to poor performance in the smartphone division. And midway through last year, Park cut smartphone sales estimates to 24 million sales in 2011, down from 30 million.

Unfortunately, adding hardware features alone isn’t a magical formula to smartphone success and I hope that LG realizes that. It was among the first to use a dual-core smartphone chip in 2011 with the Optimus 2X, but the phone didn’t impress the market. And i…………… continues on GigaOm
