LG has been in Samsung’s shadow for almost the entirety of the Android era, making phones that were less popular, less praised, and bordering on shameless copycats. The G2 changed that with the introduction of a truly unique form factor that has become a standard of LG’s premium smartphones. In its game of oneupmanship with Samsung, LG may have finally managed to get ahead with the LG G3. Maybe.

Hardware and Design

The G3 is an enhanced and optimized version of the G2. It’s taller, wider, but not any thicker. Size isn’t really the issue because the phone is normal in the context of modern phone measurements: 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm (5.76 x 2.94 x 0.35 in). The phone has an arching backside that connects with a sturdy outer rim, so it’s softly in place when being palmed and firmly clenched when gripping the edges. The G3 is definitely something that you’ll want to touch b…………… continues on Mobile Burn

LG G Flex D958 review: LG’s ‘curve ball’ could have been great, but for the price
News from Firstpost:

We’ve reached a point where numbers aren’t everything when it comes to flagship smartphones. Yes, it is important to have good specifications since customers expect the best at the higher prices but they are also looking for something else, something unique. This could be design, choice of materials used or a killer feature that no one else has. LG decided it’s finally time to put its Plastic OLED display into mass production and the G Flex is the first commercial device to launch globally with it. Since this technology is still in its nascent stages, it’s going to be costly to produce, which reflects in the Flex’s retail price. But one the economies of scale even out over the next couple of years, is this the future of smartphones? Will flexible displays be the next frontier to innovate on or is it just a fad like 3D was in the mobile space?

Design and Build

The LG G Flex is superbly built handset. In fact, it might just be the best looking and built 6-inch smartphone after the Nokia Lumia 1520. It’s tough to get a phone of this size to feel comfortable in your hand but we feel LG has done a brilliant job with this. The front is almost all-scre…………… continues on Firstpost

LG announces second quarter April-June 2012 financial results

Staff Report

KARACHI: LG Electronics (LG) reported a 46 percent increase in net profits for the second quarter of 2012 versus the same period a year ago. Despite the continuing recessionary conditions, LG’s operating profit in the most recent quarter increased significantly year-over-year.

Stronger performance in home entertainment and home appliances compared to the second quarter last year helped offset profit declines in LG’s mobile business.

Due to a combination of more premium products, strategic focus on developing markets and aggressive cost reductions, second-quarter net profit increased 46 percent year-over-year to $ 138.02 million while operating profit more than doubled to $ 302.95 million from the same period last year. Revenues, while 5.2 percent higher than in the first quarter, declined from last year’s second quarter by 10.6 percent to $ 11.16 billion due to declining feature phone sales and weak demand for IT products.

LG Home Entertainment Company posted significantly improved operating profit in the quarter compared to the same period in 2011. Due in large part to an increase in sales of more premium products and improved supply chain management, operating profit more than doubled to $ 187.5 million year-over-…………… continues on Pakistan Daily Times
