LG targeting 40percent smartphone growth
News from The Nation:

South Korean tech giant LG aims to expand its smartphone business by at least 40 per cent this year.

LG Electronics (Thailand)’s Product Group head of Mobile Communications, Anuphun Bhakdisuparit, said LG’s mobile business strategy for 2014 is to focus on innovation leadership to create the ultimate user experience and further strengthen its innovation leadership in the global smart-phone industry.

“The company aims to grow its smart-phone business at least 40 per cent this year,” he said.

LG started to become active in smart-phone marketing in Thailand last year with its flagship product, LG G2, targeting the high-end market. The company has been successful in this market segment globally, and in the Thai market as well.

Anuphun said the company’s 2014 strategy, therefore, is to keep on focusing on the high-end market segment with the launch of its latest device, the LG G Flex, which is the world’s first curved-screen smart phone.

“We see constant growth in the smart-phone segment, especially in premium smart phones. This year, LG will continue to develop innovations that will enhance the lives of consumers, while releasing phone functions that truly fulfill the needs of users.

“The first model is the LG G Flex, which comes with a 6-inch HD POLED curved screen with ergonomic design that offers perf…………… continues on The Nation

India’s costliest Android phone goes official
News from Times of India:

NEW DELHI: LG has officially launched its first curved screen smartphone, G Flex, in India at Rs 69,999. The model had been unveiled in the country in December last year, and is the first smartphone in the market to have a curved display. It has been available for the past couple of days via online stores in the country.

At this price, the model is the most expensive Android smartphone in the market.

Soon Kwon, managing director, LG India, said, “Curved flexible displays are a groundbreaking technology that enhances consumers’ viewing experience by many degrees. LG’s latest offering, G Flex, combines innovation and technology along with sleek, curved design that not only delivers a more comfortable grip and fit, but offers better voice and sound quality. G Flex represents a new era in the smartphone space where curved and flexible displays are no longer a sci-fi fantasy.”

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

AT&T to take orders for LG G Flex curved-screen phone Jan. 24
News from Los Angeles Times:

AT&T will begin taking orders for the LG G Flex on Jan. 24. (LG)

AT&T will begin taking orders for the LG G Flex curved-screen smartphone on Jan. 24, the company announced Monday.

The LG G Flex is one of the first two phones released to the public to feature a curved screen. The device, which went on sale in South Korea in late 2013, curves vertically from its top downward, creating a shape that fits snug into users’ palms.

The Dallas-based carrier said it will sell the G Flex for $ 299.99 with a two-year contract. Users can also get the phone with the AT&T Next plan, which lets users upgrade their devices more frequently than they can with a contract.

Press Renders for LG G Flex on AT&T and T-Mobile Leaked

Press Renders for LG G Flex on AT&T and T-Mobile Leaked
News from Droid Life:

Last night, @evleaks posted a couple of press renders for the LG G Flex; one for T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network and the other for AT&T’s network. There were no dates given along with the images, so we still don’t know when to exactly expect these devices to hit the States, except for one source who stated February. When they do, we will more than likely be looking to pick one up, given the uniqueness of their design.

The G Flex features a quad-core processor, 6″ HD display, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP back-facing camera, and plenty of other great top-tier specs. If a curved device was on your wishlist for 2014, you aren’t too far away.

Thoughts on the G Flex? Are we hoping it also makes an appearance for Verizon’s network?

Rumor: LG might start making Windows Phone 8 handsets again
News from GSMArena.com:

The LG Optimus 7 was one of the first Windows Phone 7 handsets… and one of the last LG-made WP handsets. The LG is not one of the four companies that make WP8 phones either, but a new rumor suggests that’s about to change.

Korea Times talked to an LG partner, who says that the Korean company is looking to boost sales by as much as 40% (from 55 million for 2012 to 75 million), with smartphones making up the bulk of it (around 10 million per quarter, 45 million in total).

To do that, LG will be releasing new Optimus handsets, including ones that run Windows Phone 8. The unnamed partner also says that we’ll be seeing a 5.5” FullHD device from LG at the MWC, but didn’t specify if it’s an Android or a WP8 phone.

The Windows Phone 8 handsets are yet to explode on the market, so one has to wonder if this rumor is true. Nokia only managed 4.4 million Lumias in a quarter, so WP8 phones might not quite help LG reach that desired 20 million units growth.

LG Says Google’s Nexus 4 Keeps Selling Out Because Demand Is So High
News from Business Insider:

Steve Kovach, Business Insider

Google’s latest smartphone, the Nexus 4, launched less than a month ago, but Google has had problems keeping the phone in stock in the online Google Play store.

In fact, both times the Nexus 4 became available in the Google Play store, the phone sold out in less than an hour.

Why?

LG, the company that makes the Nexus 4 for Google, told CNET UK it’s due to high demand for the phone. Here’s the quote from LG’s head of mobile in the UK Andy Coughlin:

LG Optimus G (AT&T)

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

LG Optimus G (AT&T)
News from PC Magazine:

By Alex Colon

The LG Optimus G ($ 199.99) has all the makings of a killer smartphone. From its 4.7-inch 720p display to its quad-core processor, this is definitely the fastest smartphone on AT&T, and one of the nicest looking, too. Its 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor turned in the fastest benchmarks we’ve ever seen on an Android phone—even faster than the model we tested on Sprint. And 4G LTE speeds on AT&T were positively smoking. Unfortunately, all that speed makes for some overheating issues, and camera performance is average at best. The Optimus G is a beast of a phone, but it isn’t perfect.

LG Exec Says Nexus 4 Will Be Announced On October 29th, Available In Indian …
News from Android Police:

We’ve heard plenty of rumors, and at this point, we have no reason to doubt that there will be an LG Nexus phone appearing at Google’s Android event on October 29th. Now, courtesy of LG’s head of Mobile Product Planning at an Optimus Vu launch event in New Delhi, we have an idea of when the phone might roll out. If Indian market availability is any indication, that is. Speaking to IBN Live (an Indian news organization of which CNN owns a 26% share), the exec had this to say:

“Google will unveil the LG Nexus on October 29 and the phone will be available in the Indian markets by the end of November.”

AT&T Commits to LG Optimus G

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012

AT&T Commits to LG Optimus G
News from PC Magazine:

The first phone with Qualcomm’s speedy new quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor is coming to AT&T. The carrier today committed to selling the LG Optimus G – although in typical if frustrating fashion for recent cell phone announcements, it won’t say exactly when or for how much.

AT&T’s Optimus G will feature a 1.5-GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory along with a memory card slot, and an 8-megapixel camera on the back. The big, bright screen is a 4.7-inch, 1,280-by-768 IPS panel. AT&T’s press release didn’t mention what version of Android its Optimus G runs, but the one we’ve seen has a heavily customized version of Android 4.0.

We got some hands-on time with the Optimus G last month. Our senior analyst Jamie Lendino found the phone to be a “trim, finely cut device,” surprisingly thin and light but made entirely of plastic. The international…………… continues on PC Magazine

Study finds phones still contain toxic chemicals
News from CBS News:

The Motorola Circus was determined to be the least toxic phone on the market out of a test of 36 commonly sold mobile phones, according to a study completed by HealthyStuff.org and ifixit.org.

Rounding out the top of the least toxic list were the LG Remark, the iPhone 4S, the Samsung Captivate, the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Evergreen.

Overall, newer phones were less toxic than their older counterparts, the study found. Samsung phones had the best average ratings of all the phones tested. Apple showed the most improvement in removing toxic chemicals in  their phones. The iPhone 2G was ranked the most toxic phone in the study, but the iPhone 4S and 5 found themselves near the top of the least toxic list.

The LG Venice will be available from Boost starting October 10, with “select national retail locations” expected to begin offering it in late October, with pricing set at $ 219.99.
