LG Drops as Analyst Says Phone Sales May Fall Short: Seoul Mover
News from Bloomberg:

LG Electronics Inc. (066570), overtaken by Apple Inc. as the world’s third-biggest handset maker, fell the most in a month in Seoul trading after Mirae Asset Securities Co. said the company’s phone sales may miss estimates.

LG dropped as much as 4 percent, the biggest intraday decline since Feb. 23. It traded 2.2 percent lower at 88,000 won as of 2:18 p.m., while South Korea’s benchmark Kospi index gained 0.1 percent.

The handset maker is counting on devices running on faster networks using long-term evolution, or LTE, technology to revive phone sales. Demand for LTE devices in North America, the biggest market, isn’t rising as fast as expected and may not pick up until the second half of this year because of limited coverage, said Lee Soon Hak, a Mirae analyst in Seoul.

“Market expectations of the company’s LTE-phone sales need to be lowered,” Lee, who kept his rating on the stock at hold, wrote…………… continues on Bloomberg

LG Optimus LTE P936 appears headed for new markets
News from Android Community:

The Optimus LTE is LG’s flagship phone, at least until the Optimus 4X HD arrives. That being the case, it’s strange that it’s only available in four countries: LG’s home turf South Korea, neighbor Japan, plus Canada and the United States (as the Nitro HD and Spectrum on AT&T and Verizon, respectively). GSM Dome got their hands on a familiar looking model, the Optimus LTE P936, that appears to be identical to the international version except for branding. The new model is obviously headed somewhere, though there’s no indication of where that might be.

The specifications of the P936 seem to match its less mysterious counterparts: 4.5-inch 720p IPS screen, 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, 8 megapixel camera, et cetera. Other details like storage space aren’t mentioned, but are probably the same as the Optimus LTE models we’ve already seen at 4GB plus whatever you want to add with MicroSD. The Quadrant benchmarks are right in line with our own tests on the Nitro HD and

Users want larger smartphone displays, says obvious analyst
News from Android Community:

Android users tend to like big, big displays on their phones. A previous study found that the median size for an Android handset was between 4.0 and 4.3 inches diagonally, and of course more and more devices are coming out with 5-inch and larger screens, a figure that was downright laughable just a few years ago. It looks like Android manufacturers ain’t just whistlin’ Dixie. According to a report from Strategy Analytics, 9 out of 10 people gravitate towards a phone with a bigger screen than their current one when buying a new model.

The responders didn’t discriminate between platforms. Though the poll size wasn’t given, presumably it’s a relatively even sample of US and UK smartphone owners – Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, etc. No matter which manufacturer their current phone came from, they wanted a screen that’s larger than the one they’ve got. This seems like a fairly obvious trend from an Android point of view (my personal phones from the last few years have had 2.8, 3.2, 3.7, 4.3 and 4.65-inch screens) and flies in the face of a certain Cupertino giant, which swears up and down that a 3.5-inch, 4:3 screen is perfect for everyone.
