LG debuts Optimus G Pro ahead of Mobile World Congress
News from CNET Australia:

LG, seemingly unable to keep a secret, has teased a 5.5-inch version of the Optimus G Pro.

Presumably arriving in late February at Mobile World Congress (MWC), the handset aims to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

A teaser image posted on an LG Facebook page provides an early glimpse of the larger, yet familiar, design. Although the official details for the 5.5-inch handset are light, early rumours suggest that a quad-core 1.7GHz processor, 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera are in order. For all practical purposes, the new phone looks to be a larger take on the model headed to Japan this year.

As the fourth LG phone outed this week, the LG Optimus G Pro will find a home in South Korea in the coming weeks. It is unclear what other markets might offer the new smartphone. We hope to learn the full details of the new line of Optimus handsets at Mobile World Congress later this month.

We’re taking a comparison look at the LG Nexus 4 vs. HTC M7 (HTC One), two pretty irresistible devices.

If you’re wondering why we have put HTC One in brackets it’s because this phone has also been recently rumored to be launching with the HTC One name instead of the M7, causing a certain amount of confusion. For the rest of this article and for consistency we’ll refer to it as the HTC M7 though.

The Nexus 4 is thought to have sold around

Report: LG moves ahead of Apple to secure runner-up spot in US phone market

Report: LG moves ahead of Apple to secure runner-up spot in US phone market
News from Android Authority:

Welcome to the Android era, where the top 2 spots in the U.S. handset market are held by proponents of Google’s mobile OS, Samsung and LG. Validating LG’s surge in North America is the latest report from Counterpoint Research, which highlights LG’s takeover of the spot that once belonged to Apple – though the race was pretty close.

According to the Hong Kong-based research firm, Samsung was number one in December of last year by grabbing 33% of the market share.  Coming in at second and third place – as mentioned – were LG and Apple with 13% and 12%, respectively. Completing the top 5 list were Motorola, 9%, and HTC, 8%.

It’s worth to note that Counterpoint’s report lumped both smartphones and feature phones together. LG may have a lead in the overall handset market in the U.S., but Apple is likely to have sold more smartphones.

Nevertheless, LG has stepped up its game big time against Samsung and the rest of the competition. The Korean recently announced that it’s sold 1 million units of the flagship Optimus G across North America, while the L-series smartphones have sold to the tune of

LG joins the 5-inch 1080p party with Optimus G Pro
News from The Verge:

Sure, the Optimus G is a great phone, but wouldn’t it be better with one of LG’s new 5-inch 1080p displays? Today, Japanese carrier NTT Docomo is unveiling the Optimus G Pro, a bigger, beefier device that aims to compete with the new crop of HD phones from the likes of Sony and HTC. And on the surface, it’s an improvement — the bigger screen has a much higher pixel density (440 ppi) than the old 4.7-incher (312 ppi), and is impressively bright and sharp. That said, the display is no longer the standout feature that it would have been just a month or two ago, and by the time the Optimus G Pro launches there will be plenty of other options on the market if huge, high-res screens are your thing.

LG Optimus LTE P936 Reviewed Ahead of Official Announcement

LG Optimus LTE P936 Reviewed Ahead of Official Announcement
News from Social Barrel:

LG has yet to announce officially its upcoming Optimus LTE P936 handset, but GSM Dome was already able to release its first preview of what would be the latest addition to the growing Optimus LTE line of 4G-enabled LG smartphones.

The South Korean phone maker is set to offer the LG Optimus LTE P936 with similar features to Korea-bound LG Optimus LTE SU640 when it comes to design and specifications.

Interested buyers should expect to receive a 720p AH-IPS LCD screen upfront, a Snapdragon chipset with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and a 1080p HD video-capable 8-megapixel rear-facing camera.

Several theories have circulated in terms of the Optimus LTE P936 target market, one of which used the model number of the LG Nitro HD P930 (AT&T) as an indicator for its arrival in the US.

Verizon Wireless also has its own Optimus LTE smartphone to offer with the LG Spectrum, leaving Sprint as the most probable carrier to put the P936 on shelves.

Sprint is hot on the heels of its upcoming 4G LTE network launch in a few months so LG may have something in store to match the momentous event. continues on Social Barrel
