LG G Flex review: World’s first curved smartphone is in good shape
News from The National:

When the regional manager of LG first demonstrated the G Flex phone, he did so with a bang, quite literally. Casually placing the phone screen side down, he punched it with great force, to show just how flexible and durable it was, while unintentionally showing that the world’s first curved phone can also be used as a weapon.

Despite the spectacle, it still did not occur to me why anyone would need a curved phone, but after a week with the device it became clear.

If you like carrying your phone in the back pocket of your jeans, the G Flex slips in comfortably, without bulging out or poking into your posterior when you sit. It really is quite ergonomic when it comes to this aspect and given its ability to withstand a Korean punch, it should also withstand your weight.

As smartphones are becoming increasingly larger in size, those with smaller heads are struggling to be heard when making phone calls. A friend of mine who recently switched to the Nokia Lumia 1520 has resorted to…………… continues on The National

LG Optimus G Pro 5-inch phone is real, Optimus G UK-bound
News from CNET UK:

LG’s rumoured 5-inch monster smart phone has been made official. The LG Optimus G Pro (rolls off the tongue and into the heart) is a 1080p palm-wrecker powered by a mighty 1.7GHz quad-core processor.

The existence of the mammoth mobile was confirmed by Japanese network NTT Docomo, with an April release date for our pals in Japan. Discerning details through the fog of Google translate is tricky, but Japanese site Ktai Watch has a little more information.

There’s currently no word on a worldwide release, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this gigantic phone rocking up in Europe, especially as LG has confirmed the 4.7-inch LG Optimu…………… continues on CNET UK

Report: Verizon to sell LG’s 5-inch phone as the LG Intuition

Report: Verizon to sell LG’s 5-inch phone as the LG Intuition
News from GigaOM:

After selling 500,000 units of its Optimus Vu, LG is reportedly partnering with Verizon to bring the 5-inch smartphone to the U.S. The timing is odd, as is the phone’s 4 : 3 aspect ratio, given the success of the Galaxy Note and its coming soon successor.

After passing up on Samsung’s 5.3-inch Galaxy Note, Verizon reportedly plans to sell LG’s 5-inch Optimus Vu smartphone. Droid Life posted a screen shot that shows the handset will cost $ 199.99 with contract, or $ 549.99 without, and it will be named the LG Intuition. As with all other smartphones that Verizon now releases, the Android-powered Intuition will support the operator’s 4G LTE network.

The leaked information follows just two days after LG announced the phone would be sold internationally. The handset maker launched the device in Korea, where it has sold 500,000 units. It’s likely that LG will have to use two different chip suppliers for the Vu based on my news report earlier this week:

Next month, consumers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America can purchase the inte…………… continues on GigaOM

Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core in upcoming LG phones
News from Android Community:

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen a few leaks regarding an upcoming smartphone from the folks at LG that is rather powerful. Blasting through benchmarks and sounding quite impressive. Then even more details leaked regarding the LG Optimus G smartphone. We now can confirm that Qualcomm‘s extremely fast and efficient new quad-core will be powering the device.

The current processor powering all the most popular smartphones is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, that manages to hold its own rather well against current quad-cores. We got our first look at the new S4 Pro quad-core last month but we now know it is coming, and coming soon.

Qualcomm has confirmed they’ve partnered with LG and have been collaborating on releasing a powerful quad-core 4G LTE device they are calling a “global device.” This will support full 3G and 4G LTE with what they call 3G/LTE multi-mode. So the tradeoff between 3G and 4G LTE will be seamless — something we haven’t seen in the past.

Qualcomm will supply the lates…………… continues on Android Community

LG Optimus Vu review: a 5-inch, pen-enabled phone to take on the Galaxy Note – Engadget

LG Optimus Vu review: a 5-inch, pen-enabled phone to take on the Galaxy Note – Engadget
News from LG Optimus Vu review: a 5-inch, pen-enabled phone to take on the Galaxy Note – Engadget:

DNP LG Optimus Vu review

Tech companies are no strangers to the game of follow the leader — industry imitation is, after all, the sincerest sign of a successful product. In the case of the Galaxy Note, Samsung’s phablet wonder has been enjoying some unexpected popularity in markets abroad and even here in the US. But the company’s ownership of that once-niche category is about to be contested by a surge of copycats, spearheaded by the stylus-toting LG Optimus Vu ($ 866 unlocked). It should go without saying: this 5-inch not-a-smartphone, not-yet-a-tablet has a steep climb ahead if it wants to oust or even claim equal billing with its successful opponent.

Of course, the Vu isn’t launching an attack on all fronts yet as, right now it’s a Korea-only affair running Android Gingerbread. (It redeems itself somewhat with an LTE radio.) Though the competition is welcome, the duel is not an even one, given the Vu’s unusual mix of internals: a 1,024 x 768 HD-IPS LCD displ…………… continues on LG Optimus Vu review: a 5-inch, pen-enabled phone to take on the Galaxy Note – Engadget

Comic-Con: LG showcases new 3D TVs and HD Smartphones
News from Bigpicturebigsound.com:

LG Cinema 3D Technology Says: Take Me Home Tonight

During last night’s Comic-Con preview I had a chance to visit the LG booth to check out their new 3D television and smartphone products.  LG is currently partnering with Legendary Entertainment (“The Dark Knight”, “Inception”) in a campaign to use film clips and other exclusive cinematic content to promote their 3D equipment.  The 47-inch 47LM7600 LG Cinema 3D Smart TV with frameless bezel features flicker-free viewing through passive 3D glasses – as LG’s Martin Valdez explained to me, this means “fewer headaches” for viewers, while the set’s 165-degree viewing angle makes it easier than ever to experience the picture from almost anywhere in your media room.  The 2D to 3D up-conversion technology can convert most content to 3D, even if it originates in 2D; this includes Xbox games, movies, TV shows and more.  Intriguingly, it also includes footage shot on LG’s 3D camera-equipped smartphones.

On the phone side, LG showcased their new HD smartphones, the LG Spectrum and the L…………… continues on Bigpicturebigsound.com

Battle of the Big Android Phones: LG Announces 5-inch Optimus Vu

Battle of the Big Android Phones: LG Announces 5-inch Optimus Vu
News from PC Magazine:

Hey, you got your tablet in my smartphone! You got your smartphone in my tablet.

And now, LG is hoping to get its newly announced Optimus Vu smartphone into the market previously owned by Samsung’s Galaxy Note – the world of the ultra-sized devices, that is.

Not content to wait for this year’s Mobile World Congress to unveil its big ol’ smartphone, LG has released some pictures and confirmed the specs of the second Korean-made Android smartphone to push the five-inches-or-bigger size classification.

But here’s the stinker for U.S. enthusiasts: The LTE smartphone’s scheduled to debut in Korea in March, and there’s been no announcement for when it might go international. In…………… continues on PC Magazine

Tech Talk Review: LG Spectrum
News from KWCH:

(WICHITA, Kan.) — The LG Spectrum has a lot of things going for it, but a few things going against it. It’s a sleek, cool looking phone and has all the cool features you probably are now expecting from an Android enabled device. But the things holding it back keep me from smiling wildly.

The phone has a very nice 4.5 inch HD quality screen and illuminating home buttons on the bottom. The default lay-out of the home screens were a pleasant surprise over other phones I’ve tested. With one screen dedicated strictly to media stored on it and others for weather and other widgets.

The phone I tested runs on the Verizon network, and usually Verizon has terrific call quality. But people I called complained about hearing background noise and sometimes were having trouble hearing me.

The phone ships with Android’s Gingerbread OS. This puzzled me because Ice Cream Sandwich is now available on quite a few phones. Even though the phone is supposed to compatible for an upgrade, not every Android app is compatible. The only reason I can think this phone is not shipping with ICS is because not all of the kinks with the OS have been worked out yet.
