LG took the wraps off the latest addition to its L-Series line of smartphones this evening.

Featuring Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich), the Optimus L9 will sport a 1GHz dual-core processor and 4.7-inch IPS display. The 9.1-millimeter-thick L9 will also feature a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a high-density 2150 mAH SiO+ battery.

The new phone, which is expected to debut this week at the IFA 2012 consumer-electronics trade show in Berlin, will come bundled with QTranslator, MY Style Keypad, and QMemo apps. LG is touting QTranslator’s use of optical character recognition technology to translate words and full sentences from nearly 44 foreign languages into 64 user languages.

However, LG was mum on what resolution the screen would host and when we could expect the phone to hit the market.

Here are some key specifications:

LG Launches Optimus G, an LTE Smartphone With a Quad-core Processor
News from PCWorld:

LG Electronics has launched an LTE smartphone with a quad-core processor, the Optimus G, which it hopes will set it apart from the competition as the smartphone market starts to ramp up for the holiday season.

The next month will see plenty of competition, with the expected launch of a new iPhone, Nokia’s first Windows Phone 8-based smartphones and the successor to Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note.

LG’s Optimus G has a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 by 768 pixels, 2GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel camera. But it’s the combination of LTE connectivity and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor that sets it apart from the current crop of high-end smartphones, which have either LTE and a dual-core processor or a quad-core processor and 3G.

The processor that makes it possible for LG to marry the two is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro or APQ8064, which can be integrated with Qualcomm’s 3G and LTE modems and modules, making it possible for LG and others to develop versions that match the spectrum bands used across the world.

The processor can also independently control each of its four cores to improve battery life, according to Qualcomm.

The fact that the processor is available to LG also means that other vendors can also use it in their next-generation flagship smartphones.

Other features that LG is highlighting include…………… continues on PCWorld

LG Optimus LTE2 Smartphone Offers 4.7-Inch Display, 2GB of RAM
News from eWeek:

LG Electronics stole a little spotlight from Korean-rival Samsung May 4, with the introduction of the Optimus LTE2. Like Samsung’s bar-raising Galaxy S III, introduced in London May 3, the new LG phone brings with it an industry first: 2GB of on-board RAM.

Delivering “firsts” to market is apparently part of the LG strategy to get itself noticed by smartphone buyers largely focused on Samsung and Apple. LG was also the first to debut a smartphone with a dual-core processor—the Optimus 2X—the first to offer a glasses-free 3D experience, on the Optimus 3D Max, and, with the Optimus 4X HD, the first to introduce a phone with a quad-core processor.

The bad news: LG introduced the LTE2 during a press event in Korean, suggesting U.S. consumers shouldn’t be expecting it any time soon.

Still, the tantalizing details—three cheers for Google Translate—include:

A Foolish Week of Telecom
News from DailyFinance:

As Mark Twain is reported to have written, “The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”

Or, to paraphrase this quote in an imagined statement from LG, “Contrary to what has been written in the Korea Herald and re-reported in the telecom media, LG is not abandoning Microsoft‘s Windows Phone.”

An actual quote from an LG spokesman, according to Pocket-Lint: “None of it is true. … We are still on board with Windows Phone, but right now, we’re focusing on Android because that’s where the demand is.”

This sounds like an “I’m behind you 110%” endorsement. In other words, Microsoft should not stop worrying about losing LG, at least as a result of that rebuttal.

And what about Nokia?
Speaking of Windows Phone, Nokia (NYS: NOK) , the phone maker that has essentially bet its future — at least in the smartphone marketplace — on its partnership with Microsoft in developing Windows Phone handsets, should be sweating bullets over that lukewarm affirmation from LG.

The Finnish company has lately become the Kim Kardashian of phone makers; it just can’t stop getting into the news, and not in the best way. As reported here…………… continues on DailyFinance
