Rumor says LG may target the Note 4 with new G4 flagship phone
News from Digital Trends:

The LG G3 will almost certainly be replaced by the LG G4 at some point during 2015, and it’ll have to be something very special if it’s to be worthy of the name. While the G4 is unlikely to break cover officially until later on in 2015, rumors of its possible specifications are already beginning to gather.

Here’s what we think we know about the LG G4, all in one handy guide.

A change in strategy?

According to a report from China in late December, LG may include a stylus with the G4, and turn it into a competitor of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The rumor is based on a selection of trademarks recently registered by LG, including the G Scrawl, and an updated version of the G Pen. Currently, the LG G3’s closest rival is the Galaxy S5.

LG has already produced a spin-off version of the G3 with a stylus, unsurprisingly called the G3 Stylus, and has included a pen with older devices such as the G Pro Lite. Samsung has made the Note’s pen — called the S Pen — a major fe…………… continues on Digital Trends

Mysterious device shows LG may be plotting Windows Phone revival
News from Digital Trends:

LG may be in the process of building a new smartphone running Windows Phone. The news comes from AdDuplex’s latest market research, where an LG phone popped up in its breakdown of which devices are being used to view adverts. The device wears the model number LGVW820, which interestingly links it to another LG phone, the D820, better known as the Nexus 5.

Sadly, if AdDuplex’s data is correct, the Windows Phone device isn’t a reworking of the excellent Android phone. The only specs available are related to the screen, which apparently measures 4.7-inches and has a 480 x 854 pixel resolution. That puts the VW820 firmly in the mid-range, and up against the Lumia 535.

LG to face difficult 2015, launch Firefox LTE phone in Japan

LG to face difficult 2015, launch Firefox LTE phone in Japan
News from ZDNet:

Summary:South Korean tech giant LG Electronics is expected to have hard time next year due to strong competition in the premium smartphone market.

LG is to face a difficult environment in 2015, according to Eugene Securities Analyst Yoon Hyuk-jin’s corporate analysis report which was released on last week.

Yoon pointed out that Apple’s iPhone 6 is the main source of LG’s negative expectation in 2015.

“Due to strong competition of North American smartphone market after the iPhone 6 release in September, LG’s Mobile Communication division’s rate of return in the fourth-quarter is to record 2.4 percent, 1.5 percent fall from the third-quarter,” Yoon said in his report.

LG said it shipped 16.8 million smartphones in the July-September period, its highest ever for a business quarter. It toppled LG’s previous record set in the second quarter of the year of 14.5 million units.

The company has also announced it set to launch the FxO, the world’s first LTE-enabled phone powered by the Firefox operating system in Japan.

The FxO has a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2.1 megapixel front camera, 2,370 mAh battery life, and a 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor. Firefox 2.0 is installed on the device. (…………… continues on ZDNet

LG G4 could be Galaxy Note 4 contender with stylus
News from Phones Review:

News is really starting to ramp up now about upcoming flagship smartphones for 2015, and one of those is the LG G4. New reports suggest that a new G Series phone could be a Galaxy Note 4 contender and come with a stylus, and it’s thought that this could be the LG G4.

The Samsung Galaxy Note line featuring the S Pen stylus still stands at the top of the phablet crowd, despite attempts by some other manufacturers to match it. Now Asian sources report that the LG G4, due to release around summer, will also include a stylus, although we have to say we’re not convinced on the evidence so far that this is actually the G4 and not another G handset.

The overseas news gives some specs for this new LG G phone, and they include a Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor, a 5.3-inch display with Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440, 4GB of RAM, and 32 or 64GB of internal storage. Further specs are said to be a 20.7-megapixel rear camera and 3500 mAh battery, and if the above is accurate this handset would be likely to please a lot of LG device fans. One thing that seems as though it could be amiss with these specs though, is a display size of 5.3-inches. The LG G3 has a 5.5-inch display and it seems unlikely to us that LG would go smaller with the next iteration. Also we’ve previously heard rumors that the G4 will have a 5.8 to 6-inch display.

It’s also reported that this…………… continues on Phones Review

How LG and Motorola are assailing Samsung

How LG and Motorola are assailing Samsung
News from Gigaom:

Since the rise of the original Galaxy S, Samsung has sat atop the Android handset market, furthering its distance over other rivals supporting the operating system over the years. The company’s dominance is particularly impressive when one considers that it is the only successful feature phone company to expand its success in the post-iPhone era.

However, with the company’s smartphone margins declining as smartphone penetration inches higher, the company is seeing reinvigorated competition from two old rival brands from its feature phone days — LG and Motorola. How they are taking on the Android giant represents a study in contrasting strategies. While LG has taken many pages from Samsung’s playbook, Motorola…………… continues on Gigaom

Phone Comparisons: HTC Desire 820 vs LG G3
News from Android Headlines – Android News:

Boy have we got a good one for you today – the new HTC Desire 820 up against the aging, but still viable LG G3.  The Desire 820 is a fun smartphone for the younger crowd with several available colors and an 8MP front-facing camera (FFC) for social media selfies or video chatting with your friends and family.  The LG G3 is a more ‘adult-like’ smartphone, still made with a plastic outside, but with the look of metal.  Both devices feel solid and well-made when you hold them, with the Desire 820 being just a little bit larger.

As different as these two devices are, they do have a few things in common.  The first is their 5.5-inch display size, though very different.  The second is they both use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, again, very different models.  They both offer a model with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, although the 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage was the only model of the LG G3 we saw in the U.S. – but both devices do have room for 128GB of expansion via a microSD card slot.  Both devices use a 13MP sensor for their main camera, but t…………… continues on Android Headlines – Android News

News from LG G2 Review: One of The BEST Android’s Money Can Buy – Know Your Mobile:

It must be a pretty odd undertaking being a handset manufacturer making your own flagship at the same time as creating Google’s Nexus-branded flagship, but that’s exactly what LG has done with the LG G2 and Google’s Nexus 5. While the Nexus name is widely recognised and well-regarded, LG is undergoing a re-branding excercise, dropping the Optimus moniker and simply running with LG G2.

The LG G2 combines incredible power with a unique design and a wonderful screen to present one of the most appealing Android phones we’ve tested. Read on to find out all the details and discover why this handset is so impressive.

As is often the case with older –– but still VERY decent –– handsets, now that the LG G3 is wid…………… continues on LG G2 Review: One of The BEST Android’s Money Can Buy – Know Your Mobile

LG Fx0 is a transparent phone running Firefox OS

LG Fx0 is a transparent phone running Firefox OS
News from GSMArena.com:

Mozilla’s Firefox OS has made its debut in Japan today, with the announcement of the Fx0. This oddly named smartphone manufactured by LG is designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, and it’s transparent. Literally.

As you can see from the image below, the Fx0 lets you peek at its internals without ever needing to take off a cover or something like that. And it’s also got a home button decorated with a golden version of the Firefox logo.

The Fx0 is certainly different from all previous Firefox OS phones, which have so far centered on being as cheap as possible. This one, though, is more of a design statement. That’s why it will also be the most expensive Firefox OS device we’ve seen so far, being priced at JPY 50,000 (that’s $ 414 or €340, by the way).

Aside from being transparent and all that, the Fx0 takes its design cues (the shape, mostly) from the LG G3, but it is smaller. It has a 4.7-inch IPS touchscreen, while its resolution hasn’t been made public yet.

The Fx0 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, aided by 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage space expandable via microSD cards. It sports an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2.1 MP front camera. It has a 2,…………… continues on GSMArena.com

LG G2 vs LG G3: Is Upgrading Worth It?
News from The Inquisitr:

When LG released its G2 Android smartphone in 2013, it was met with high praise from both techies and casual users alike. However, the G2 has a new competitor—and surprisingly, another LG phone is the culprit. With the release of the G3, the question becomes: should LG G2 owners upgrade to the G3 after such a short time?

The Body and Camera

The body of the G3 is slightly larger than the G2, though not by much. The G3 is also slightly heavier at 5.25 ounces compared to just under five ounces for the LG G2.

The cameras on the LG G2 and the G3 are virtually identical, both sporting a 13 megapixel camera. However, the G3’s camera has laser-guided autofocus and the phone itself has a 5.5 inch display that produces 538 pixels per inc…………… continues on The Inquisitr

LG’s New Wi-Fi Speakers Automatically Play Music When Your Phone Is Near

LG’s New Wi-Fi Speakers Automatically Play Music When Your Phone Is Near
News from TechCrunch:

It’s CES time already. Yes, the Consumer Electronics Show isn’t here yet, but the first product launch is. LG has unveiled its newest Music Flow products, including three speakers and three sound bars with some twists.

The new products have many of the usual features, including Bluetooth connectivity and a Sonos-like option to connect to devices using your home Wi-Fi network. LG is also introducing its first battery-powered speaker, and the new range includes an interesting feature that can automatically play music from your smartphone when it is near.

That requires the device to be running LG’s Music Flow app, which integrates Spotify and a range of other music services. But here’s how it could work:

So you could be listening to music on your headphones on the subway ride home but the music will begin playing automatically from your living room Wi-Fi Sound Bar when you enter your living room.

That’s not quite all. Music Flow can also be controlled using messaging app Line. Once added as a contact, you can tell it to “play son…………… continues on TechCrunch

LG G2 Android Lollipop update moves closer
News from Phones Review:

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is slowly making its way to more devices and we’ve already informed readers that it has now reached the LG G3 flagship in some regions. That may lead owners of the previous year’s LG G2 to wonder when they will be treated to Lollipop, and now the LG G2 Android Lollipop update is moving closer.

LG was one of the first manufacturers to release Lollipop to its flagship device, and recently the update arrived for some users of the G3 in the UK. However, as is always the way with these kinds of updates they can take varying amounts of time to arrive for all regions, and carrier versions are often the last to receive them.

Up to now we haven’t heard much about Lollipop for the LG G2, but now a leaked screenshot has emerged showing an LG G2 running Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. This is in testing for the LG G2 F320L LTE-A model for South Korea, and it’s no surprise that the update has popped up in South Korea first. However, once it arrives for one version the Lollipop update is likely to start appearing for other models of the G2 over the next few weeks and spread to further regions over the coming months.

Counterclockwise: Nexus One, LG Optimus 2X, LTE
News from GSMArena.com:

You’d think that tech companies are busy marketing their existing products for a final holiday buying spree, but it turns out some defining moments in mobile history happened around this time of year. This edition of Counterclockwise recounts several of these occasions – the gossipy birth of the Nexus line, jumping to a next-generation cellular tech and bringing high-quality video to people’s pockets.

Nexus of power

Google started Android as a software platform, but before 2009 had come to an end there were strong suggestions that Google will turn to hardware and produce its own phone. Not a simple developer version like the ones the search giant gave its employees and attendees to Google I/O. Instead it would be a proper, Google-branded phone.

The new phone – to be named Google Nexus One – would come with a new business model too. It was to be sold with no subsidies (uncommon in the US at the time) and it will be sold from Google and select retailers.

LG G3 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4
News from The Inquisitr:

Two examples in the Android family that are in direct competition are the LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Holding the advantage in the past, Samsung has made further improvements to its latest version of the Note, but LG has packed the LG G3 with features that make it a worthy rival.

Mobile phone screens are becoming bigger every year, and some of them are almost like mini tablets. In fact, a lot of the newer phones being released are referred to as “phablets.” That’s a cross between a phone and a tablet, according to tablet experts School Tech Hub. The Note 4 has a slightly larger face, with a 5.7 inch screen that’s just 2/10 of an inch larger than the LG G3. The G3 counteracts this discrepancy by supplying a sharper resolution of 538 pixels per inch, the sharpest of any major competitor, over the Note 4’s 51…………… continues on The Inquisitr
